Destiny 2: PS4 Exclusive Content will never arrive on Xbox and PC, Luke Smith says

Well I can see why they would do that. Nobody already playing on Playstation will complain about this, I mean why would they, they're getting everything and thus are happy? Meanwhile you convince the undecided (owning both platforms or none yet) to go with Playstation. Best case they hope for is to convince Xbox players to jump ship and join the PS ecosystem.

Its amazing when most of the positive responses to this news is "fuck you, got mine"

Amazing

EDIT: I'm hoping with it not just being xbox being screwed over this time (pc) there is enough of a noise about this that it is a constant sore in their side

So, people on three different formats will pay the same price for the game, and one group of those people will get more content than the others?

This has always been the biggest issue with this exclusive content being held back/indefinitely held as exclusive. It's not so much the content being held back (which is shitty on its own), but rather that price, or more specifically the lack of difference in price.

You pay the same price on the XB1 and you get less. That's kind of messed up - at least price it accordingly if you're going to fuck around with different amounts of content on different platforms like this.

As if they were not already dominating. Hopefully this doest become the norm. In not affected because I own a ps4 and I'm not really interested in destiny. But if this happened to aboter franchise I would be very disappointed.

This shit puts me off buying Destiny full stop. It certainly does the opposite of making me want to buy a PS4 for the exclusive content.

Sony pretty classless this E3.

Why all the blame on Sony? Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but I'd think people should be getting mad at Bungie or Activision if anyone, since it's their game, and they accepted Sony's money to do this.
Much easier target and console wars, of course.

It's terrible news for fans on other platforms. But I'm just thinking about why they'd do that business wise.

Anecdotally speaking, I had several friends that went with PS4 because the exclusive deal with OG Destiny back in the day pushed them towards Sony, despite being Xbox players last gen.

Um, yeah, this is nothing new.

That said, I'm not super into Destiny, what is the content that will be Sony exclusive?

A not insignificant amount:

Lake of Shadows: an exclusive strike
City Apex: an exclusive ship
Weapon Borealis: an exclusive exotic weapon
Retribution: an exclusive PVP map

The ship and the weapon sting less, but keeping those maps back is a huge what-the-fuck.

Given all of the rightful criticism about lack of content when D1 launched (and even for the year after), this is just fucking crazy. Destiny was starved for content at launch and knowing there was an additional strike that we couldn't play until a year later was insanely frustrating.

I kinda can't believe it. He must be mixed up. If this is true, then fuck it, I'm out.

Just like this exclusive practice was disgusting last gen when MS did it, it's disgusting now when Sony does it.

If I had to wait for the content, I'd still get the content, but this is outright holding back content from other platforms, which is even worse and a disgusting show of buying exclusive content.

I'd wait for further confirmation from Luke or Bungie first. Sounds like the translation may have been screwed up a bit. The one year exclusive situation is as shitty as it has always been, but I don't think they're dumb enough to make the content lifetime exclusive. If it is true, I'll eat my words, but I just don't feel like they'd go that far. Not to mention the marketing materials have stated that it is one year exclusivity just like Destiny 1.

Yep. Sony turned this into something worse.

Arguing matter of degree is irrelevant. So is arguing its origins and bemoaning how this all started. We all know how this came to be. The reality is no matter who does it or who may be "better" or "worse", it's bad for gamers and consumers. It's bad when Microsoft did it, it's bad when Sony does it, it's bad for the industry as a whole.

That said, I'm still not 100% convinced Sony is responsible for making it "worse" because Destiny is an outlier. Sony hasn't expanded the long term exclusivity lock out to other games; For example, the timed exclusivity for COD stuff is pretty much the same as it was last gen when Microsoft did it (one month exclusivity). I also don't recall Sony paying extra for Bungie to extend the exclusivity of Taken King content to two years, Bungie just kinda up and did it on their own with a minor weekly blog post blurb. There seems to be a lot of lingering bad blood between Bungie and Microsoft and it feels Bungie capitalizes on any opportunity they get to screw over Microsoft.

Is this a stupid question? The argument going around these days is that content are being held back, that you get less for the same amount etc. How do we not know that Sony paid for this content to be made?

I will probably play this on PS4 Pro vs Xbox one x because PS4 is where I played original but this is not cool. From a business perspective, I understand it, Sony wants their platform to be the go-to Destiny platform but I think there are better ways.

I see Bungie taking a lot of heat for this, but would it be Activision and Sony to blame instead? Bungie might have had no say in this exclusivity deal. I would think Bungie would want maximum enjoyment from everyone that plays Destiny 2, regardless of platform.

Good, don't let anyone else enjoy the full game, that's how you win folks.

Btw I'm just joking, please don't take it seriously. This is an absolute shit practice that I hope goes away very fucking soon.

See what you did Sony? Your bullshit tactics caused someone to buy your console over the competition, almost as if by design! Former Xbox fans now own and play on PlayStation. I hope you're happy. More like #4theprofits!

It's the strike most of all that burns me. I mean the ship is ugly and not even important. The gear will get replaced in 3 hours. The gun is neat, but I'm sure there will be better and the PVP map is annoying.

But that strike can be played over and over again. It can add hours of gameplay.

Because it would mean less drama and that wouldnt be fun.

To be honest, Hawkmoon was one of the finest weapons during the first year of Destiny. I also liked Monte Carlo. Exodus Blue was a fun PvP map, not the best but you could go ham. No Dust Palace strike in the rotation is a Plus, though.

Sector is the worst map ever. But I loved Jade Rabbit on the other hand.

Dust Palace was cool though, having 3 bosses with different weaknesses

The exotic has the potential to be the biggest difference. Hawkmoon being a Sony exclusive was pretty big if you were really into the game. It was one of the best weapons in the entire game.

Well, for their players so, yes.

SO how are we spinning this that keeping content from other players is thus "for their players"

Just curious.

I have a PS4. I don't feel comforted to know that I have extra content available that PC and Xbox players don't.

THough I have an Xbox too, but regardless

Well, I'll still probably get it on PC. 60fps plus superior controls are probably worth it. I got used to using the controller, but the whole time I was thinking it would be awesome to be playing this on mouse and keyboard.

Ikr? It's almost like Sony is some kind of business making business deals to capitalize on business opportunities!

I loved my Hawkmoon, but not as much as others apparently. lol

Think of it as PlayStation owners getting extra content as well as the base game whereas Xbox and PC owners just get the base game
/s

You are sarcastic but its technically not wrong.

For one the glass is half full. For the other its half empty.

Nearly everything about the way they've marketed this game has been a disaster. It's like they've never released a game before.

Its like they want to make amends for Destiny 1, but at the same time know they are going to deliver the exact same thing yet again. They started the hype machine with "there will be loot!" and rather forced goofyness, which is pretty much fuck you with your storyline questions and our game does have charm.

Just don't expect something radically different from the first game.

Dust Palace was cool though, having 3 bosses with different weaknesses

I hated it before TTK. Too many dinklebot scenes, just an awful strike. The bosses were fine but they weren't Ultra class so a nuisance when coin farming became a thing.

Something something Sony doesn't like crossplay something something exclusive content something something.

Lol sounds like there's a connection in there somewhere...

Joking of course.

I used the hell out of Monte Carlo when it came to Xbox. Holding out exotic weapons and actual gameplay content permanently is bullshit.

99% of the time I agree with you, and I've been pro kb/m for so many years. But with Destiny, I have to admit, the controls were near perfect and I never felt that the controller held me back in any way.

Outrage 2.0

Seriously, this was what everyone was complaining about since Destiny year 1. Sony and Activision have their hands in the cookie jar and Bungie had to follow. That's business and it often sucks.

Shitty practice stays shitty. I don't understand why Sony would finance this, since they are already running circles around the compitition. At this point, what's left to gain from this ?
