Destiny of Spirits shutting down on June 30th, 2015

Bad news. Okay, I have no interest in playing and owning the game, but this entire trend of games closing down, nah, don't like that.

Oh come on... Why are they doing this? Instead of improving the features, they are just removing them one by one...

I really don't understand why they can't keep stuff like this running on a couple of virtual servers and just stop developing new updates and stuff. Can't cost that much, right? Same for other multiplayer games.

For context this shutdown is completely out of the blue. DoS has just had the 1 million downloads celebration, two entire new continents with a 3rd due to release in a week, a whole new pool of spirits, the biggest raid event so far currently ongoing and an update next week which has some long awaited improvements.

The whole maps situation isn't even linked to it since the hunt function still works fine. Sony literally has just dropped the axe without a single bit of warning, and it's a real kick in the teeth for everyone that has actually been playing and paying. Considering there is until June before the shutdown and the updates team is still working, I don't understand why they can't just patch the game to run offline but obviously with most functions no longer working.

This is another reason why i hate online only games, once they are shut down you can't play them anymore.
I hope they make an offline patch.

Wow. Didn't expect this.
Also didn't knew it was only a year old. Started playing in July or so and put way too much time in it.

I never had any real problems with the service either. Besides the loading times it was a pretty fun game.

At least I can make some room on my memory card again. Perhaps I should boot it up again for the final time.

What? Game was fun. And for free.

Wtf is Sony doing? Every week some servers and game services getting shutted down by them. Stop this ffs

That... sucks. Big time. I bought orbs for ~100€ over the last year to get some spirits and other stuff. I don't know, there were too many burns with games over the last few years. I'm afraid what happens to my digital Vita library at this point. Sony seems to be killing it with increasing speed.

That's just hella dumb. I liked the game and spent some money on it when I was pretty into it last year, but to straight up announce a shut down with no warning a year after it's release is just terrible.

Like come on, Sony. Stop striping the Vita with what it already got. Already disappointed that the Youtube app is being removed. Smh. And I was kinda hoping that they would explore ways to bring the game to PS4 too.

and nothing of value was lost, seriously i thought this game was gonna be cool then it came out and it was kind of shit

My most played game too.

Such amazing art in this game. I love the drawings, and even the soundtrack.
They really need to release that stuff officially. It's going to waste.

So great game, took ~6 months to grab Gold trophy, game time was kinda big.

Makes you rethink that quote at the recent GDC

Sarah Thompson said:
"We're really looking at this as a significant part of our digital business," she said about free-to-play. "I think that it's going to be a really a big chunk of our revenues in the next few years; 3-5 years. And it's already growing at amazing rates that are really quite surprising."
"So we think that's great news. I think that it is really stabilizing the business. And I think it's future-proofing us. I think that it's really taking us into where we need to be as a company," she said. "As a company, we do fully believe in free-to-play."

Really strange they are shutting it down. It got constant updates like new Adv Summons, new areas (the last area just opened up) and game play tweaks. It is also the top board on GameFAQs due to all the trading.

For those who are rushing to 100%, from what I heard the new areas count toward the clear all areas trophy so with the new area just opening up, it is going to take longer to 100%.

God damn it. I absolutely love this game, easily my most played game over the last six months. Fantastic artwork, constant updates, I play it every single day.

Have every trophy save for the conquer all zones one, but with ~150 or so to go, I'm probably done.

This really sucks. Wish I could just play offline at my own pace or something, another reason to hate online only games.

Wow, talk about this news coming from outta nowhere.

Had a few spirits from DoS-GAF too that helped me quite a bit.

In perspective though, how does DoS compare to the other available F2P games like Million Arthur and High School DxD and such downloads-wise?

...and it just occurred to me that DoS, a F2P game available worldwide, gets axed before some Japan-only F2P games.

There are much (much) better F2P games on android/iOS.

I think it's funny how someone can spend money on a skinnerbox and then have it taken away from them.

This game did not belong on a handheld, typical mobile moneygrab trash, all it had going for it was good art for the cards.

WTF!??????

I'm still playing this game regularly. I put ~350hrs into this game T-T

Look like I won't bother finishing the current raid event then. It's really weird Sony is shutting Destiny of Spirit down after announcing some Spirit stats adjustment and a new continent.

Holy shit...

I guess I didn't take screenshots of all my spirits for nothing...

Haven't seriously played in months. Never spent any $$ on it. They gave so many free orbs, I still got LOTS of super rare stuff, also from long travel hunts.

Maybe that's why it failed... too many free orbs to the community due to outages... not enough people spending money to enjoy the game.

I had a really good time with this game. It was not so much the gameplay, but the community that made it special for me. It was always fun getting excited about new raids and new spirits. Trading was great. There was a constantly changing market value for all the different spirits. I remember the struggle we all had getting the 30 day login trophy in the early days. Oh server maintenance lol. I even made a lot of friends because of this game. It did eventually turn into an unhealthy obsession and I forced myself to stop playing back in september. It's a shame that it's finally coming to an end :/ There are still many people on my friends list that plays this.

I played it for a while. It ran so poorly for a game that is menu based. That and the servers were always borked or something. Not really surprised by this.

Sad day, this was easily my most played Vita game.

Where to go now? :'(

Also, the App was deleted from PlayStation Store (NA PSN). No more downloading DoS for new players.

I wonder how many people were playing.

I've been involved in the decision to shut down servers for big games. It usually takes like a below 100 users for a month before it's decided to shut it down.

Maybe not many people were playing.
