Destructoid Ignorance: And you wonder why developers 'hate' PC gamers ...

Flamebait thread is flamebait. Another OP makes my ignore list. The people who spread this garbage are worse than the ones who create it. If they original authors didn't have an audience they'd be sitting alone dilling themselves and we'd never know about them.

Personally, I see it as providing a useful public-service.

why is shirt on?

What I failed to communicate was that by ignoring the PC market, developers could potentially shame pirates in a "spoiled it for the rest of us" way, but even so, it was likely an unfair suggestion.

Is this guy legit retarded or something? Does he think people who steal games are actually going to feel any shame whatsoever when Crytek tries to lay a guilt trip on them? They can't even see these fucking people. It would be a snippet in some article with a quote about it. You can't get much more removed from a situation than that.

These Apsy videogame writers better stop trying to predict human emotions.

uh last time i checked steam sales were going through the roof. well at any means it was a stupid article that shouldnt have been written

It simply reinforces the notion that the gaming press is littered with a bunch of know-nothing-retards.

Some one should tell these peeps that the money (minus Nintendo) ain't being made on the console side. Developers who choose a certain direction have issues of their own doing.

But, hey, I guess the successful PC developers should ditch profitability and go to a market that will bankrupt them within 5 years (at least there's less piracy).

Never heard of him, and once I close this tab I'll no doubt forget all about him.

Why do fat people wear shirts in pools, etc.? Do they really think it hides the fact that they're fat?

who is other glass for?
The person taking the picture, I suppose. Of course, maybe the guy set up a timed shot and jumped in the tub in time for the picture to go off, forgetting to take his shirt off. The other glass was to hold the rest of the 7up.

There, all the questions answered. :)

In my more generous moments, I want to think this guy is like the Spinal Tap of games journalism.

I want to think that.

If this is a troll, why did he backpedal like a pussy?
He found a broken monitor in his bed and backpedalled to avoid being murdered by a PC gamer that was already over the edge due to the Crysis 2 demo.

i understand why you don't want to give what you see as a troll article clicks, and those parts paint a bad picture, but i'd like to see the whole thing so i can respond properly and i can't find it on the destructoid home page.

shaking my head at the appearance insults though. for example just looking through to find the story i found shit like this as a picture for a story by jim, and given what a terrible tabloid website destructoid normally is there is enough for you to attack without going low and being a dickhead about it.

Nailed it.

as if his character is any better ... I don't know him personally but at dtoid he comes off so uncharismatic/unsympathetic, full of hate (hates his life, or just watch a jimquestion episode), childish, ignorant ... the list is endless

I don't think a single creature on earth could love someone like him, not even his parents

I do think the photo is weird. Not because of the soda or the shirt, but because right next to the bath, there is a bed. I mean, come on, does that make sense?

Sterling trolls for a living, GAF gets mad and makes a three page thread full of personal insults.

He's the video game industry equivalent of Armond White.

Good thing I never gave that piece of crap of a site a single hit. It's sad that even some journalists and gamers themselves are starting to become like publishers: focusing on profits of titles instead of their quality.

Yep,the guy has both the appearance and character fail...

If you don't want your kids going into game journalism, just point them toward to this guy. :x

Goddamn. I thought I was ballin' out of control with my 95 steam games. :P

Heh, if you want to greatly increase your Steam games total go pick up some Telltale games. Steam registers each episode as its own game. I have about 25 games total added to my Steam total with the 5 Telltale titles I own.

If you admit to being a troll, you're not really a troll. You're just looking for an excuse to say stupid things that you actually mean.

If that is what's considered trolling these days, the cast of Jersey Shore are the biggest trolls ever.

Troll is the worst word to hit the internet. It's overused and misused 95% of the time by people who want to fit in by regurgitating popular phrases they see on the internet.

Lots of hotels have an in-room hot tub of questionable cleanliness.

Steam is the answer to PC piracy.

That's not because it has some amazing security; it doesn't.

But Steam (at least the games that really take advantage of it) is actually more convenient that piracy.
Steam downloads use my full pipe.
No game installs.
Cloud game saves and settings.
Integrated friends list.
Really good deals in the store.

Makes perfect sense. Blizzard should make Diablo 3 a Wii HD exclusive launch title.

Straw-man argument or reducio ad absurdam? Either way, not constructive. This is just a vomit of words loosely related.

I don't agree with Sterling but I'm not sure why everyone here is acting like PC piracy isn't a huge issue. It's far more prevalent than console piracy and Steam games are hacked in a few hours, no different than any other game.

This is NeoGaf man. Let me bet that most people complaining in this thread aren't actually paying everything they should in order to get their entertainment. The only real rule that exist to me is that if someone makes a product of entertainment for you and SELLS it to you, you should therefore pay to enjoy it. Same thing as a pair of shoes you like in the store's glass. I think everything should have a demo though so people aren't basically pirating your game for trying it before buying.

That's a fairly biased analysis, especially considering he's only reporting on one country.
A) One country.
B) Numbers don't include DD sales, which have been hovering about 50% on the PC and rising.
C) When a company spends its entire marketing budget on one platform, no shit the other platform is going to have lower sales.
D) No DX11 or graphical options caused many PC gamers to wait and buy later.
E) He implies money cannot be made on the PC. Crysis sold over 4 million copies on the PC only and is the reason why Crytek employs 800+ people across six studios worldwide.

Conclusion: Jim Sterling continues to confirm he is a boorish, ignorant twat of a blogger.

Crysis 2 has become Electronic Arts' most popular release so far this year, beating out other major titles such as Dragon Age 2 and Dead Space 2. According to the sales figures, the Xbox 360 was the most popular console too, thoroughly dominating the PS3 and PC.

The 360 accounts for 57% of Crysis 2's sales, with the PS3 taking 29% and the PC raking in a miserable 14%. Maybe they were too busy torrenting it or something.

This news is notable for the fact that Crysis was always a major PC title and being able to run it was the hallmark of a powerful gaming computer. PC fans have been upset at the console inclusion, blaming it for "dumbing down" the game and not looking pretty enough without manual tweaking.

I wouldn't expect EA to care much now, though, since the PC is apparently not where the money is. Can't fault people for wanting their games to actually sell, y'know?

The article is full of bombast, but the underlying argument is intriguing:

1. There is way more piracy on PC than on consoles due to difficulty of console piracy.

2. There is a lot of overlap ownership between PC and consoles ownership.

3. Publishing only on consoles would still allow you to reach much of the same market while cutting down on some of the piracy.

I thought the store analogy is kind of a good one. If you opened a store in a location where even 15-20% of your merchandise was stolen, you would be crazy to stay at that location without changing something.

However this completely ignores Steam type validation services. So the argument perhaps should be "Companies should only release through Steam and not put out a physical PC boxed copy."

I'm sure that will help prevent bandwidth caps

When I saw the 14% number my first thought was that's kind of high considering the UK (like the US) is a console-focused market, and considering it doesn't include sales on Steam or any other digital vendor.

Sterling is an ignorant clown, but we all knew that already.
