Detroit Become Human E3 2017 trailer

-3 playable characters: Kara (probably more narration/exploration heavy), Connor (detective angle ala Nahman Jayden), Marcus (can lead the revolution, probably most action)
-All 3 of them can die in many scenes ending their arc
-This is indeed aimed to be their most heavy branching game yet which obviously means it will take a while to produce, but as far as I heard they are making good progress now
-Jesse Williams is indeed playing Marcus (mocap, face, voice)

I think Q2/Q3 2018 seems likely tbh

Jesse Williams and Minka Kelly... lol

Personally not my favorite trailer for Detroit, but I'm absolutely loving the fact that they keep reiterating all the choices and different paths you could take to progress the story. The only other David Cage game I've played was Heavy Rain, which - I'm not ashamed to say - I quite like, regardless of the piss-poor writing and voice acting. I'm looking forward to Detroit!

I love the concept and setting but I don't trust Cage to pull it off. I think the trailers shown so far look good tho so I'll keep my eye on it. No release date must mean it's pretty far off

Thanks for the information :) Can I put this in the OP?

I know the girl looked and sounded familiar. Minka Kelly from Friday Night Lights

Was it really? She looked really familiar but I couldn't place her.

Recognized Jesse Williams straight away.

The game looks amazing. I've loved every game David Cage has made so I'm 100% in with this.

Not really keen on Eddie Redmayne's character (then again I never like Redmayone at all) but Kara and Marcus look interesting at least. I hope there are more characters to play as than those 3.

Huh? Eddie Redmayne isn't in this.

Still can't believe the game is actually called Detroit become human

The dialogue in this trailer was pretty bad

Man, that writing. It's the most unsubtle writing I've seen since Beyond: Two Souls and that's saying something considering I just beat Persona 5. I'll probably play through it because, much like Heavy Rain and Beyond, Cage's games are always a laugh but I definitely won't be lining up to buy it Day One.

This game animated so poorly like there last games.

Personally I thought Heavy Rain and Beyond looked spectacular on the PS3

The only wonky stuff I saw in this trailer were the no-name NPC robots pledging allegiance to Marcus, their facial animation was bad. Aside from that, it looks great *shrug*

I mean, I like the heavy branching concept, but if it gets TOO much heavier than Heavy Rain (trolol) I have to feel like it'll be a short game, on a per-playthrough basis. It could be daunting to try to actually see all the content in dribs and drabs as part of partial and full replays...

I'm not expecting as early as Q2. No date leads me to assume the game is well over a year away. :(

This was exciting for me because even though we knew about this game before it was vague in terms of what it would be going for. Now the premise is clear and they showed off gameplay. So it was a very fresh look at this game. Well done reintroduction of this game.

Oh, there are only 3 playable characters? I don't know why but I was expecting more. I'm glad they brought back the whole 'these characters can die in many scenes' aspect that I loved in Heavy Rain.

Hope this will have cool branching interweaving and the tense shit. That's what these games can do well, I feel.

That's because they're robots. Is an excuse Cage has now.

Beyond got the release date announced 6 months beforehand which was final and currently their Detroit marketing plan is rather similar in terms of showings. So I would say if we dont have a date after March 2018 its probably time to panic. But I see Q3 likely yeah

Looks awesome, I absolutely can't wait to dive in. As others have mentioned though, it's a bit concerning there's still not a release date though.

I liked the latest trailer, but how come there's still no release date? It has to be 2018?
100% 2018, but it was unfortunately never likely 2017 at any point. At least i never thought so. Perhaps announced a tad too early indeed

HR had 4, Beyond had "2", Detroit is 3. Probably trying to find the sweet spot where branching works out but no character gets shafted in terms of screentime

I think your playtime will only be truly cut if everyone dies on you, which is possible of course, but rather unlikely (for all 3 of them). Plus Kara might have some early game plot armour ala Heavy Rain so some kind of base length is ensured

Love what i saw .

Definitely intrested. I need choices , i get choices.

The setting and the characters are new so i have , like no reason to avoid this game

I was still holding out hope for 2017 until tonight. Obviously that's dead. Q2 would be good, but I'm fine with Q3. Beyond Two Souls has its haters but it was great. Take your time, Cage. Make it good.

This and Wolfenstein (and Battlefront 2 I guess) are good. Rest of E3 has been painfully pedestrian.

I mean more in terms of the percentage of total content any one continuous playthrough will see. With the super heavy branching, it's probably very low. This is always a problem with these types of concepts in games. Most players typically play through most games once and that's it (or don't even finish that first playthrough, at least based on trophy stats in many cases). Just hoping that all the extensive branching is all of high quality (even though many players will never see a lot of the content), and that for those who DO wish to see most of the content, that the process is not too laborious, or require too much backtracking and repetition.

same. Not being that fast at game dev is probably rather normal if you literally refuse to make sequels and make new IPs every time. Always a new long design phase ahead so its probably normal to take 3.5+ years for every game they make. And Detroit is on a new console and it seems a bit more ambitious design wise than Beyond so that will just take its time. Sucker Punch is probably in a similar position atm

After hearing Cage with Geoff, I don't expect this game before summer 2018. They announced the game too soon. Last year scene with Connor is playable on the floor and they have another scene behind closed doors.

Wasn't the Connor scene playable on the floor last year too, or am I remembering wrong? Yeah, definitely announced too soon. From an outsider's perspective it would seem like nothing happened in the past year.

Its crazy to me that this has been at 3 E3s now and still not releasing this year. Crazy dev times, but yeah it looks amazing.

They have nice concept art as usual:

Good transition to final game

Cage said it wasn't, maybe it was playable behind closed doors and this year is on the floor for everyone to play..

Red and blue colors (the windows near the end) remind me of bad memories. I know it's a lot to expect, but I really do hope choices matter

His doppleganger then:

Weird that they didn't have him to VO the character when the model looks similar. In that case, I'd rather they use another face since I have aversion to Redmayne's face. :P

Eh, looks nothing like Eddie Redmayne. It's an actor called Bryan Dechart.

Jesse Williams and Minka Kelly are the two biggest names in it so I think they'll probably be the focus. Bryan and Valorie Curry are pretty unknown.

Im not privy to deep insider information but I do know that full production basically only started shortly before E3 last year (and they usually take 2 years on full dev which would put it around June 2018). So the scene we saw today didnt even exist yet last year, so a lot definitely happened. As for why it was announced so early and why full dev didnt start earlier I heard some (totally from my ass) rumours that they had a production setback early last year due technical difficulties realising some things which ultimately wasnt possible on PS4 or out of scope. I think we might have seen some of that in the original Kara trailer. Also I heard they had scheduling conflicts with one of the actors which lead to a recast which is kinda awful since voice, mocap and face rely on each other. Again don't take this at face value, could be true, but maybe not.

I can totally see Connor being the first full scene they produced though post setback as the game's vertical slice since it was very polished. One of the devs "joked" on twitter they would have to make the actual game now last E3, but I'm pretty sure he was half serious lol. So just normal AAA(A) things more or less, just QD usually wasn't hit by that sort of a thing and they have masked it rather well until now.

So mid/late 2018 it is! But I'm confident its coming along nicely now

It's very interesting to me.

If I were to read Gaf only, I would think that there is no good game anymore. The negativity here is so high.

Yep that should be it. Behind closed doors only and playable for some select journalists, now playable for everyone

I was all in until they ended it once again with the character talking to the camera.

STOP
He was the final character. You will never have to see it again (doubt its in the actual game too) :P
