Detroit: Become Human - Review Thread

I'd say its an adventure game. Has anyone played Sam & Max, Monkey Island, Thimbleweed park? Not saying Detroit is on the level of those adventure games but in terms of gameplay they're very similar. Adventure games i feel are very very underrated and no one is really playing them anymore besides telltales offerings and Life is Strange. These types of games have existed for a while. I don't know why people act surprised or downplay them thinking they're just movies.

YES! Even better explanation. It's like an adventure game.

I'm probably half way through the game. I really like it. I fumble on some of the QTEs during fast action, but I like the chars and story. The graphics are great. I love the flow charts and amount of ways to get through a chapter. Sometimes there are 5+ endings. I was once on the option with 7%, so I screwed up :(

The only thing that holds me back is that I am unsure that if my decision through my playthrough will stick. Like is there an option with perma decision option? Where it is one solid playthrough without going through the scenarios over and over like the demo? Cause I dont want to cater the scenarios. I loved that heavy rain made every decision count and I had no other way of changing these things other than playing the game over again

didn't play, but watched 2 playthroughs on twitch. Decisions stick from what i could tell. You can go back to any chapter you have finished and start from checkpoints and pick different choices. Don't think there is a prompt to go back when you finish a chapter. The person I watched had to go back to the main menu and start the chapter over to pick the different choices, to get a different choice because they forgot which they chose the first playthrough, and the one you finished with would be the one that stuck for the next chapter.

Just finished the game and decisions do stick, i'm not very happy with the ending i got but it at least gives me incentive to go back and try again. I'd say this game is a anywhere between a 7.5 and 8. I wouldn't go any higher than that though. I enjoyed my time with it i must say. Much better than Until Dawn.

Ahhhh
I enjoyed Until Dawn

So is Detroit Become Human similar in gameplay style (I know it's not a horror story)? I'm kinda interested in this but am not sure it'll FEEL like such a great game to play AFTER all the stellar titles I've just played through (Last of Us. Uncharted 4. God of War. Spider-Man. Until Dawn)

I like Until Dawn a lot, but Detroit is superior in every way.

Detroit is a must play game if you enjoy these types of games. I was late to the party and only recently got it but it's easily my favorite of these types of games. Makes until dawn which I've played multiple times feel basic in comparison.

Detroit is much better than Until Dawn in terms of gameplay. Way more involved, there's actually a mix of investigation and puzzle sequences in addition to narrative choice. Also the exploration is more meaningful because what you find can really effect your options later on down the road.

I actually didn't like Until Dawn at all pretty much so I wont bother comparing the story or anything else. But even factoring that bias, Detroit just has way more depth.

^Like the others said Detroit is the superior game, loved Until Dawn but Detroit beats it in presentation and gameplay pretty easily.

Does this game feel like it was written by a high school student like other Cage games? Is it jankalicious like other Cage games too?

Wait
What are some Cage games?
The director of Quantic Dreams, David Cage.

Other David Cage games:

Indigo Prophecy, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls.

Does this game feel like it was written by a high school student like other Cage games? Is it jankalicious like other Cage games too?

Yes. Its feels a lot like previous QD games. I liked it a lot though. Its the best QD game.

Detroit is pretty damn polished, I feels much better to control than B:TS and light years ahead of HR. As for the story I wouldn't say it's much different than other David Cage projects but the voice acting and presentation are superb.

Just started. Up to Kara already and I'm liking the strange, uneasy vibe I'm feeling from this. Hope this vibe remains

too bad they are on epic store, at a low price i would give a chance to detroit that actually looks semi competent in its niche of "choose your own adventure" games.

The game is great!
Maybe "game" in the generic sense isn't the correct word, as it's more of a "guided story that I help shape" (like Until Dawn). But I'm still glad I got it and will be getting back into it in thirty minutes

Start playing this yesterday.

Presentation is top notch.

Its a guided movie, not a game, but it feels super sweet, specially after beating a game like sekiro.

Story wise it feels a lot like westworld.

They really put you between a rock and a hard place in this game with your decisions. Specially Josh and North are always putting you in a ''make this difficult decision Markus!!!'' situation
Also they play with your emotions because North incite you to the violent way but if you decide to stay pacific your love relation with her degrades
This is only one of many intricate greatness of this spiderweb of possibilities. The overall writing in this game is really great

Man I really hate the "not a game" memes that trail modern adventure games. They even reach the old-school ones sometimes. It's a pet peeve of mine.

Detroit absolutely is a video game, it fits all the criteria, but for some reason because it doesn't conform to an fictitious traditional standard it's "not a game."

Especially for something like Detroit that's swimming in game-play. Exploration and investigating crime scenes is gameplay, solving puzzles is gameplay, yes even making narrative choices is gameplay. It's not action gameplay based on reflexes or twitch skill but it's still gameplay and Detroit is still definitively a game.

I could almost let this slide for a (bad imo) game like Until Dawn that had so little going on. But in a game like Detroit where you're going from light puzzling, to stealth, to CSI shit, to chase scenes, etc. All of which can have major choice implications for the narrative, the idea that its "not a game" doesn't jive on any level.

I actually just started playing this a few nights ago. I definitely understand that these David Cage games aren't for everyone, and I'm not sitting here yelling from the rooftops about this being some masterpiece, but I'm really enjoying it so far.

The one gripe I have is the terrible motion controls that don't seem to register. Flicking the controller up or down seems to work every time, but things like pouring drinks takes like 6 of the exact same controller movements before the game finally recognizes it. Then there was one part where I had to discreetly pull something off of a sleeping guy's leg and it just would not register my movement while moving slowly. I tried almost 10 times before just doing it faster and then the game penalized me for doing it too quickly.

I'm anti-Android, pro-human so I found this game in its entirety obnoxious.

Wait
I'm anti android, pro- human, too. But I loved the game.

I finished the game and made the humans win through my decisions...etc I know there's many different ways this game can end, but, is there a way to make the androids win or something?

Interesting that this thread was just bumped because I just beat the game today. Imo, it's the best Quantic Dream
game yet and it's a wonderful experience especially if you like story based or interactive movie adventure style games. The game feels quite polished to me and looks astonishing. Arguably one of the best looking games this generation. Truly a technical accomplishment. I really enjoyed it even though I think I got the bad ending. Going through it again soon.

Actually, Yeah. I bumped this thread -and I felt guilty about it, too, because the last post was June 10, 2018, and here I come, waking-up an old thread by posting on April 20, 2019 about Until Dawn wondering if I'll like this

I love this game! Beautiful graphics, dense atmosphere and a perfectly fitting soundtrack.
just perfect!

On my first playthrough i unintentionally killed "someone" and got the bad ending. Oh well, fired it up immediately again and found many new details, story branches and even completely new chapters. It was a hell of a ride and i finished it with a good ending. And then i fired it up again ... :)
Played trough it 5 times, earned the platinum trophie and i still want to go back. And playing Connor in a "T 1000 Terminator" style was pretty funny
It is in my top 10 games of all time and just a very interessing and wonderfull experience overall.

It is by far David Cage`s best game so far and i hope he will make another one in the near future.
Cant wait for the PC release to see it in glorius 4k (hopefully)

That's awesome
Hey, would you mind telling me (using spoiler tags of course) what the "good ending" was that you got? I'm curious to know what ya mean by "good ending". I have no problem with spoilers

Every time i finished the game, i got a different ending. Sometimes with major differences and completely new chapters.
But i would say the good ending for me is...
nobody dies
...which was also the hardest one for me to accomplish.

And of course there is even a very bad ending which, by now isnt hard to figure out ;)

It took me around 8h to beat the game the first time. So i would recommend to just play it through, go back and play it a second and third time. You could do it in one weekend easily.
THAN you can look up the trophy list for lilttle hints and clues or just check out a guide online. But still, playing it without a guide and choosing a different path on your own each time you have to make a choice is much more fun.

Thanks 👍

Finally playing this on PC. I loved Heavy Rain on PS3 back in the day. Man, the presentation on this is amazing. Loved the TV Show style intro with Kara in the car.
