Deus Ex: HR's PC Preview Build version has leaked

EDIT: never mind, i don't think we have confirmation for screenshots. my apologies.

Dx11, fxaa, soft shadows. FXAA definately works, very clean image quality. the game itself is excellent. I am pumped.

I was already hyped to the high heavens for this game. Now that i had a chance with the leak i know for sure that i am going to pick it up even more now. Game is so good. There are so many ways to approach any situation it's crazy. I also love the interchangeability of keyboard/mouse with a gamepad. I love how you interact with computers and use the keyboard to type numbers and scroll through news articles is such a nice touch. Also game runs pretty well on my pos e4400 @3.0ghz and gtx 260. Still undecided if i want to get the PS3 version one too since it's the lead platform.

No melee weapons. You can only do lethal/non lethal take downs. Everything uses ammo.

Damn! lol

Apparently this has mouse acceleration you can't disable... Disgusting... Glad to read good impressions in this thread, I've just skim-read because I don't want to be spoiled.

Just a FYI, a poster a few pages back said that the game is locked at the Lowest settings, not sure where he got his information from.

So are we considering it.... Legal.... To download this leak, if it's discussable? Since everyone is blatantly admitting to having the leak and stuff.

Damn! lol
When did they say PS3 was the lead?

Why are people posting impressions from a leaked game?

I would have assumed that was a no no...?

I hope you intend to buy the full game.

Mods gave it a go since Eidos are allowing it on their own forums.

I've bought the game on Steam, if that matters.

Well I'm guessing since it's the one Eidos Montreal is always demoing. Usually that's a sign that it's the lead.
Strange, I've only seen 360 footage. Oh well, at least the PS3 version won't be a bad port since that's most likely what I'll be playing this on.

FYI people compared screens with trailers and everything looks the same except for missing SSAO.

So yeah, I went ahead and tried it out. Played for about 2, maybe 3 hours in total and stopped, to avoid spoiling myself further. It seems like it's going to be an excellent game, so I pre-ordered the Augmented Edition immediately after closing the game.

Should've released this as Shareware!

Yeah I'll just say that as soon as I get money, I'm buying this. It's not exactly a looker but god damn, the atmosphere is there for sure. They really nailed the feeling.

Edit: It'd be funny if this leak caused more sales..

Kind of weird it's ok to talk about a pirated leak of a game, but the positive talk about the game makes me long for the game even more.

I also like that there are multiple ways to get info from people. Most of them can be bribed, you can use your social skills, and they have special items they like, such as the bum lady who only drinks a certain type of beer.

I SPILL MY DRINK!

Some impressions:

- there is some minor jankiness to controls, nothing severe
- I was getting controller tutorials when I had no controller plugged in (and occasionally controller keyprompts)
- the graphics are pretty good, but some character models look horrid and conversation animation is really janky
- the game is good
- you can interact with the very first computer in the game and start reading emails of the character standing next to you, although she'll get annoyed at you pretty quickly
- loads of alternative paths, I didn't even explore half of the police station after I'd done all the sidequests I had active
- a quest NPC tried to make me solve his problem before he'd part with the item I was after, I said no and knocked him out and looted the item off his body
- stealth works great even without any augs like reduced walking/running/sprinting sounds, LOS trackers etc
- for some reason I couldn't get my 2nd power cell to recharge at between takedowns, it only recharged after I went back to the hub, dunno if I'm missing something or if it's a bug
- played with object highlight on, didn't bother me one bit (the problem finding alternative paths was were to find them, like in a bathroom, not what you could interact with)
- music is great
- performance was occasionally spotty

Overall: game's very solid and given some polish time between now and launch, it'll be a great game.

The radio station playing anti augmentation broadcasts and other paranoia has its signature theme as the New York Streets music from DX 1.

Also since im a pack rat by nature I had near $30k and nothing to spend it on.

I'm not digging the cover system, everything else feels just about right and looks good (except graphics lol). I will post a more detailed impression later on, but the cover system was the only thing I didn't felt comfortable with in the first hour or so of gameplay.

This too, they actually feels like an emulation of analogs.

Youre right, the sluggish mouse movement literally a copy-paste of the analog stick values-- right down to the halved y-axis sensitivity you would find on a controller.

This makes it into a few PC ports and never gets patched. It seems like a real simple fix for nixxes. heres hoping they catch it before release..

I've been playing Alpha Protocol, hopefully DX3 can top it cause it's pretty damn good.
In terms of playing the game Human Revolution is a much better game. In terms of characters/writing and choices impacting the story, well that remains to be seen.

Praxis kits? You can only by two but its 5k for one.

Also to those who played it: What kind of build did you have?
Level 3 hacking and double melee take down. Didn't need anything else. I had 6 upgrade points left over when I reached the end.

So I'll just offer up some minor impressions:

-I spent quite a bit of time with this game, and even though the intro sequence is a bore, it does offer some good information and sets up the story well. After that, the game really kicks in.

-The locale is just fucking amazing; such a detailed world. The art direction is one of the best things this game has going for it. A great blending of ideologies and art movements, architecture, literature etc etc. I spent a lot of time reading eBooks and emails (Just couldn't help myself, the hacking mini-game is so awesome). There's a lot of lore and underlying plot going on here. Feels exactly like the first game.

-I love the cover system, though I don't recommend toggle (who would). Gun-play seems fine, I've had no complaints. Ammo seems to be somewhat scarce, but there are vendors. Problem is, I don't know how often they restock.

-Movement is janky right now, but I suspect that to be just a beta-build issue

-I was able to complete missions in a variety of satisfying, and I mean SATISFYING ways. I blasted through one, talked my way through another, and went non-lethal/stealth through the major ones.

-Side quests are very deep, and remind me a lot of both the first game and Vampire: Bloodlines...

-Adam's apartment = fucking awesome. Ever play the Blade Runner game? Well, let's just say it hearkens back to that feeling you get...

-I think one main concern I have is the level of detail with NPCs. Most seem to be placeholders as there are character models that are reused for race and gender. Voices too. Again, I suspect this to be just placeholder stuff. I also have a feeling graphics settings aren't quite optimized yet. I had issues in the beginning turning off 3D, somehow it was enabled. DirectX 11 has gamma issues. I'd bet most issues will be squared away by launch. This is obviously an older build.

Overall, the depth and variety in this game is outstanding. The team has outdone themselves by far, and this will please both non-Vets and Vets of the first game. It hearkens back to what made the first game so awesome, SO AWESOME. I really can't express enough just how successful the team is. They fucking nailed it in my opinion. It will definitely scratch that "Cyberpunk" itch and then some.

Oh yea, and being able to play with highlighting off, and objective markers off is just great.

I had a really positive experience, and I'm glad I could share it with people. Thanks GAF mods!

Edit: I forgot to comment on the score. Has got to be one of my favorite scores in the last few years. Really adds another dimension to the game. It's amazing.

My build:

I put points into lifting heavy objects, hacking, and some stealth. I hacked the shit out of most things I could.

Using the stun-gun is so fun!

Already bought them. Theres a ton more weapons than you think scattered in this game. Plus I did rob the police station armory.

cool feature I hope is consistent for all mandatory missions: the ability to go back through the level before its over. You can do that in both missions the hostage one and the second one where the game ends. If thats consistent that would be great to go back and explore what you missed.

Occasional frame stutter (which is really off the wall at times, might be because it's preview) but it runs pretty great on my laptop. Good to know. i5, 540m, 4gb. The game has fucking awesome atmosphere and plays really great. I'm preordering this so hard.

By the by: If I preorder through steam, do I get all the extra content (with the augmented edition) as a digital copy? I'd much rather prefer physical content.

Has anyone tried shooting up the police station?
Yes, I died pretty fast. Didn't finish the mission like that though, interested in hearing about how that would turn out.

Settings are definitely nerfed for in the preview version. Playing this part, everything maxed out and it looked nothing like this recent screen from edios.

The first thing I noticed is that the music is very much Mass Effect in style.

You mean Vangelis/Klaus Schulze/Tangerine Dream (that would be a more appropriate description). That's basically what the music of Mass Effect intended to imitate (read Jack Wall's interview about Casey Hudson specifically asking him to compose music akin to the aforementioned 80's synth artists).

If it's OK to post impressions it's OK to DL right (according to Eidos)? Someone link it over or something so we can all play it!

I don't care if trying to run this on the crappiest of crappiest will most likely make my GeForce 9300MS blow up. I have to at least try damn it!

So do people expect me to even be able to play it on the lowest of lowest settings?

Not ok to DL.. it's technically warez, which is against the ToS.

Asking for links and PMs with links would also be against the ToS.

Discussion of the content of the preview build is now allowed due to Eidos allowing it on their own forums, but no posting or asking where to get it from as it is not technically legal to download it.

Would be nice if the OP updated to include this info, as its quite important.

I also hope they get the guy who leaked it

That "highlighting will ruin everything" argument was certainly a bust. It's certainly no magic secret finder. A perfect case of why you should stick by your design decisions and not give into a bunch of hysterics from people who have never played it.
So has it made the game easier or harder for you? Has it been necessary? Just wondering.

The gold/black thing actually looks pretty decent in the game.
^ Now that argument was true hyperbole.. The "piss filter" as I recall. My eyes have never rolled so much.

It certainly makes things easier. Some items can be very small are tucked away and are hard to notice. There is also a lot of random objects, that you cant interact with, littering the environment and cluttering it up.

Time for my impressions (these could be long) and there may be light spoilers.

I'll start off by being honest. I wasn't impressed initially. While the introduction is fantastic and perfectly sets the atmosphere of the game the opening level was disappointing. You start off walking around Sarif Industries with no control over your character, save for the camera. Even the camera is restricted such that you can't turn it 360 degrees. Then once that's over with you run through corridors with an infinite use assault rifle with no option for stealth. EM calls this "easing casual gamers into the Deus Ex experience". I call it "dull".

You mean during the first "attack"?

Uhm, you can use stealth.

I went past that entire area without killing, or being seen by anyone.

You just need to be patient.
