Deus Ex: HR's PC Preview Build version has leaked

It was nice to see emails from a character from the originals,
Joseph Manderley
, I wonder if they will have a bigger, physical role later on.
More than likely yes. The character's name is attached to a lot of stuff that's happening in game and not just a one off reference or a nod to Deus Ex.

Yeah true, I know there was collabs between other studios but it's just a little thing that is bugging me. Same with the voice.
Try not to think about it. It is the only solution I have at the moment.

The compression artifacts for the prerendered cutscenes are terrible, and the VO for Serif doesn't sound as good as his VO in the trailer. :(

It sucks big time that this was leaked. Companies need to be a lot more careful as to who they give preview builds to, especially games of this magnitude.

Can't say I agree with Eidos decision for people to freely download and talk about just under half the game either, but I guess it's getting them some free advertising.

The positive impressions from people though is great to hear, and now I'm pleased that I pre-ordered the Augmented Ed. on the PC when it dropped in price on Amazon a while back.

I purchased this game on steam, I'm just testing out my purchase before its released. People who play this leak, who haven't decided on buying it - will be far more likely to buy this game. This leak was entirely beneficial to Eidos.

Yes but in this specific case I think the damage may be minimal.

Its not anything close to the complete game which will also look better. Plus the response to the leak seems to indicate that the game is very good so this might actually help to create a positive buzz.

Yeh, I see what you're saying, and I'm in agreement considering a lot of people were skeptical about whether this game would live up to the name, doubts about that have definitely dispersed.

I think a few people (including myself) were rightly quite disgusted by some users comments earlier on in this thread though, before Eidos was all like 'freely talk about it people'.

Why? (Setting aside the fact that Eidos isn't "deciding" that people freely download the game.) Their stance seems smart to me.

I bought Crysis 2 after testing leaked beta [i didnt like crysis 1 and warhead]. Leaks of good games dont affect sales, who wants to buy it, will buy, rest will pirate before or after release.

I guess they could be mad about it, but it wouldn't change anything regarding how many folks actually downloaded the jacked version. I think it shows a lot of confidence in their product that they're willing to let people speak openly about even an older version of the game.

Btw the first mission you can save the hostages?

I fucked around so long in the offices that I was told they were all dead except the lady at the end.

Exactly. Their approach has few costs and a lot of potential benefit. I wouldn't be surprised if their pre-order numbers spiked from the attention. I know I definitely would've pre-bought the game if I hadn't already done so a few weeks ago, purely on the progressive attitude of the devs and the obvious confidence they have in their product.

I think so, which is great. I was messing around in the offices as well, ignoring what seemed like the usual "proceed to the next objective" banter, and then got the message where I was told the situation just got a whole lot worse because of my dicking around.

Damn, I'm so tempted to play some more but I really don't want to spoil it any more than I already have.

yes, you can save all of them.

It's refreshing to know that they die if you mess around too much before you head out to the factory. There are so many games where time seems to stand still while you just run around doing random stuff.

You can make it through the entire mission without killing anybody and without having anyone die.

It's nice to see so many positive impressions.

I'll hold out for the retail release. I need it to be fresh for that max D11 shit.

If it's still Thi4f, I'm not buying it regardless of how good it could potentially be.

This right here, bought the augmented edition on steam this morning. So who wants a copy of Deus Ex on steam?

You can completely miss them, and if you leave it for too long they get executed by the terrorists I believe. Rescuing hostages was always a secondary objective, the primary one was retrieving the Aug prototype. As long as that happens you got the job done, although if you
let Sanders go
or let the hostages die you get chewed out by various people.

I got Free Portal Syndrome with this one where I had a great deal of trouble finding someone who wanted it and didn't already own it. Did eventually find someone though, lol.

Yes, that's what I did. Prichard mocked me for it, too.

i mean shitty naming has been helpful before as a good indicator but Thief is Thief you'd be stupid to pass it up. Driv3r deserved to be ignored, Thief 4, whatever it will be called is worth a look I'm sure.

Not sure if it's been noted here, but you can fix the DX11 brightness bug by holding down shift while double-clicking the game's executable. Works for me, just need to find an FOV fix now so the game won't give me a headache after the first 15 minutes.

Ohhh is that what causes it? I just thought the game was really dark, lol. I cranked it to 75% brightness and it's still fairly dark but I deal with it. 100% brightness washes everything out and looks awful.

You can kill Sanders before he executes the hostage. People hate you no matter what you do though. Some swat officers called Jansen a monster for killing too many people

What performance have you been getting with DX11? I've been getting jumpy frame rate going from 60 straight to 30. So I wasn't sure DX11 was working in the first place.

Don't look at me, I've had preview code for a month and a half now

He mocked me too, exactly the opposite of the reaction I got from him when he brought up the mexicantown incident. I still hate him just as much.

I
let sanders go
because I didn't want him to shoot the hostage he had.. next time I play this (most likely in the final version, unless I get really weak and play the preview version again)

I'm going to try some different options and see if I can take him into custody and save the hostage.

I scolded Sarif for holding SWAT back for so long and told him I hoped
Sanders would lead me to who was really behind this
.

He was not pleased.. but after I found (in-game e-mail spoiler)

an e-mail containing an IM conversation between him and the company lawyer discussing the potential legal ramifications of augmenting me against my will. Sarif said there was a clause in the my contract that said they could essentially do whatever they wanted to me while I worked for them but that he doubts that I'd sue the company anyway since they saved my life

I was glad I decided to tell him off.

Eh, its not like Jansen was ever going to lead a normal and happy life.

Edit: Also it seems this game is heavily influence by ghost in the shell but the developers don't actually expect the players to know anything about GITS.

Yes.

Read the thread?
I did, but a few days ago when it was first posted. The original post was that we CANNOT talk about it.

So anyway, I downloaded it and I'm playing through the first mission at the moment.
I crawled up and through that overhead duct and saved all those hostages by disarming that thing with the code I got from a guard (I think it was 1505 or something). Then I got to go into that room and silently take out those two guys, which is BRUTAL.

This game is awesome. I wasn't planning on buying it, but now as soon as I have money, I'll be purchasing it right when it comes out. It's so much fun, and I've only played maybe a half an hour.

I can't figure out how to use my Augs such as 'Punch Through Walls' from the cybernetic arm prosthesis, how do I?
Its only specific sections of wall. If you have the aug and have object highlighting on the piece of wall that can be punched through should light up. But you can also use regular explosives to take that wall down.

Ah ok, thanks.

I should be said that links are being removed so obvious Eido is trying to limit exposure of the actual files, but not in a heavy handed manner. Lets be honest if people play them and are not familiar with them being a press build and/or incomplete) it can cost sales or reflective negatively on the product.

I love hacking people's emails. There's some great little notes in there.

I swear, everything's a goddamn conspiracy

User33 said:
You know how the receptionist says that your new mirror still hasn't come in? If you hack her computer you can see that she received an email saying that the mirror has been ready to pick up for four weeks now
Oh, you don't have to hack her computer its apparently unlocked. But its not really a conspiracy either.
She probably just doesn't want to replace the mirror because Jansen keeps breaking it.

So anyone have any tips for squeezing out a couple of extra FPS even with everything turned down low, via ini editing or such? I'd love to not just run the game, but be able to play it.

If we can't ask tech questions I'll delete this.

actually if you talk to everyone else, and read some other emails, they didn't want Jensen there cause he's an aug, but Sarif threw their weight around lol. She's trying to screw Jensen over as much as possible
edit: too slow!
Lostconfused said:

yep :D
So pleased how this game worked out.

Also if you don't have the punch through aug, look for slight crack texture on the wall to know if you can destroy it.

Honestly, if you can't run this in DX9 with everything set to low/off, you need a new videocard. That's the easiest thing you can do.

I think I might know the real reason.

If you go to your own email you get an email from Sarif Industries saying not to worry about the rent. Looking at the receptionist's email, there's an email from the HR Manager (Athene I believe) intimating a financial threat if a room isn't made for one of their employees (Jensen). So she's probably disgruntled about that and going out of her way to make things difficult

I love that such a small, easily missed detail can be so in depth.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is one of the reasons Deus Ex: HR is going to live up to the original. These small, incredible, believable details.

That shit is just like when Gunther got stiffed with the lemon lime soda instead of orange.

I was thinking more the stuff at the office

I stumbled onto a note about a clandestine office romance, which turned out via hacking a different computer to be the result of someone putting cameras in out-of-the-way places in the office as part of an internal spy network but who got caught and managed to take her discoverer's mind off things

Hmm, I touched it a teeny bit not to spoil too much and I must say that I really enjoyed what I played.

My only problems so far (that aren't likely to be fixed) is the super low quality CG cutscenes, CG cutscenes in general, clunky mouse interface (many miss-clicks when hacking, spotty inventory management), weird mouse acceleration, wonky cover, third-person cover, long-ass takedowns, third-person takedowns, no mouse 4-5 and the fact that there isn't much stuff to interact with. That last point kinda makes the highlighting necessary since it's really hard to know what's interesting without first running up to it.

Overall though it seems to be good, really good, great in fact. And it looks terrific and runs well.

Hype!
