FGMPR said:Is anyone else finding the cover system makes the game way to easy? I've finished DX 1 on easy and it felt a hell of a lot harder than this does on "give me deus ex". The problem seems to be that there is rarely any room for the enemies to flank so you can just sit back and wait for the perfect time to pop out and head shot them.
I'm thinking of playing on a controller in the hope that the shooting becomes hard enough to force me into looking for stealth alternatives.
Other than that though, the feel of the game is incredibly faithful to Deus Ex and even with my complaints of the cover system, it did feel slick and lot's of fun to play. It's just that ramping up the difficulty doesn't really make the game much harder.

Yeah, I'd say so. I didn't know it existed until about 5 minutes ago. :\MNC said:Is it a big spoiler UNATCO exists? D:

If you're referring to the theme I posted, it plays within the first 10 minutes of the game. I have no idea if UNATCO actually exists or not. Either way, I apologize. Maybe I should spoiler tag it?thetrin said:Yeah, I'd say so. I didn't know it existed until about 5 minutes ago. :\

the only graphical thing I have a comment about is that people wiggle about too much while talking, to make them seem... 'alive', I guess. plus not enough emotions in faces.
edit: Damn. Hope UNATCO is a reveal early in the game and not something like end-game spoilers.

Yeah, same. I really hope I'll get a physical copy...Zefah said:Pre-ordering the special edition just to get the soundtrack!
It's just the style for me I guess. I like nice clean numbers up on walls, the detail on Jensen's clothing and the desk in Sarif's office, that stuff stands out as "yummy" for me. Once you get up close though textures are absolutely lacking, I just like the overall design of the levels (sharp and clean surfaces, the "MGS2 look", if you will), I think the environments look great in those pictures I posted, but it's down to personal preference.Tom Penny said:As far as graphics go I don't think the the game looks bad. Just nothing special and someone mentions textures. Everything is flat. When someone say textures I think of bump mapping etc...Mass Effect engine is better than this one unless the final is ramped up.
This is one thing I got used to after a while and now I actually think it's a better approach than having dedicated melee. When you have stealth and weapons to incapacitate enemies silently in one hit (batons, dragon's tooth, EMP charged attacks (IW only?)) without using up ammo that tends to be the most efficient way to go. And it's fun, for sure, but having it like this adds a lot of variation and more inventory management. The stun gun works much like a melee weapon but it needs ammo, melee is unlimited and very powerful but you need to wait for it to recharge so it isn't overpowered like it was before. You need to think about which enemies are worth taking down and which method is the best one to use instead of simply running up and punching everyone in the back of the head.Gvaz said:Where is dedicated melee? Why do I have to spend energy to punch a dude in the face? I have two bionic arms, why can't I be fucking Robo Muhammad Ali?
MNC said:I think it's a perfectly good solution. You practically lost your arms and have to do with these augmentations to perform even the most basic motoric actions. To knock the fuck out someone with a single punch would need quite some energy.
Maybe it's just me, but does anyone else think this game looks absolutely marvelous? I haven't played the game since I finished the preview build (which was excellent btw), but I took a lot of pics via fraps and every time I see them, or show friends, I/we're amazed out how much the game often looks like a drawing.
This is a pic I took for instance.
Sounds like I will go with a Stealth/Hacker character rather than a aug-ed up dudebro.Chairman Yang said:A few preview build comments:
* if Deus Ex: Human Revolution was a pure stealth game, it would be top-tier. The enemies behave a lot more convincingly than usual. I especially like it when they turn their heads independently of their bodies, which can give a nasty surprise to players used to robotic search paths. The cover system is absolutely brilliant design, because it works really well for stealth and combat alike.
* Hacking is really cool. I love being able to occasionally hack a system without triggering the detection.
* The augs are so, so much better than in Deus Ex.
* I was a bit concerned about the writing/story initially. Now I'm not.
* The conversational system is incredible, and easily one of the best in the genre. Granted, I haven't been using the Social Enhancer aug, which might make things too easy, but so far picking the right dialogue responses has been challenging and fascinating. It's nothing like Bioware's output and it might even trump Obsidian.
Unless the full game has a drastic drop in quality, Human Revolution is going to end up better than Deus Ex. For reference, Deus Ex was in my top 3 games of all time.

I am so looking forward to play this game.

Graphically though, the game is pretty average, but art style, atmosphere etc are in a league of their own. And often, the game is a marvel to look at in still pictures.
Oh and the intro credits, with the incredibly dramatic music are insanely well made! One of the best intros ever imo.
Yeah, good thing I got that fixed for us.Samb said:So many people I know who were skeptical, especially after the impressions given after the original gameplay previews (Yellow outlines on EVERYTHING), are definitely getting this game now. Myself included.
Off, but I tried out the highlighting and it was very inobtrusive.Discotheque said:Awesome, man. After the shite second game it's always reassuring to hear Deus Ex 1 fans praise this game after hands-on.
Did you play with the highlighting on or off?
All synth, at least as far as I've noticed. It's very reminiscent of Deus Ex 1.Discotheque said:Is the soundtrack in here mostly synthesized like in the first game? Or is it more orchestral? I like orchestral music but for this game it has to be mostly synth stuff man.
Discotheque said:Oh my God man. Despite how stacked the fall lineup is this year this is just sounding more and more like my game of the year.
Thanks for your answers guys. Now I'm out of these threads until release.
Sorry. :\ThoseDeafMutes said:Don't do things like that, you made me check the release date because there were a few moments where I wasn't sure if you were just joking or not.
This is coming out in 2012.
