Deus Ex: HR's PC Preview Build version has leaked

Regardless, if you decide to murder everyone anyway you pretty much have free reign to wander around and collect some exploration bonuses, so it should work out if you go do that.
Yeah. I would say it's a lot harder to explore the entire area without getting spotted once. Maybe liberal use of a cloak might help.

This kind of leads to a strange dissonance. If you try to be stealthy there are paths that lead you from beginning to end but they are only usefull for that express purprose and its much harder to explore and invesitage so you get funneled down a straight path towards the end. On the other hand if you choose to kill everyone you have the entire area to explore without any kind of impediment so instead of being pushed from one action sequence to the next you are left in a wide open area.

The police station was definitely my favorite part. I remember looking all over the place and finding 5-6 different ways just into the actual building.
The entrance into the secret base is really really great. The inside though drags on a bit too long.

The most impressive thing about this preview build was that every time when I thought "mmmmh maybe there is something behind this fence /wall /boxes etc. I just gotta carry 3 trash containers over here and stack 'em and then.." and there was ALWAYS something cool there.

Anyone who's played this: any theories why most in this thread think this game will be amazing, while virtually every report out of E3 is that this game feels clunky, old and bad?

Do you consider yourself a pretty competent gamer?

Did you get to go to E3 this year while IGN goons did?

Did this answer your question?

You guys are making it difficult to avoid downloading this. Must stay strong, ugh.

I want the game to be completely fresh my first time through.

Two months isn't that bad, although two months waiting for a Deus Ex game that we know doesn't suck is hard, true. I didn't play that far into the game at all, as to not spoil myself while checking if it sucked or not.

It'll be a better experience in August without the jank from this early build, better to wait IMO.

I am also starting to worry about length. If the preview build is really the first third of the game, then i'm not sure if they'll have to rush the story to finish it. It felt like the main story was barely started by the end of the preview.

Play testers have been saying 20-30 hours consistently.

They measure the first 3rd because you have 1 of the cities and hubs accessible, or at least that is what I am hoping for. I purposefully stopped playing just before the police station part so as to not spoil the game for myself.

Yeah that's my only concern as well. But this is the same deal as Witcher 2. Even if this is just a 3rd of the game it's still has a ton of content and is a great RPG which we get so few off these days. But yeah the story might be a bit weak. Or maybe not, who knows.

FUCK! The place where I wanted to preorder Augmented Edition just upped the price with 20€. So off to find a better spot. Or use that UK site ^

Just finished the leaked demo. I'm going to play through it again in a different style - I mostly just blasted my way through everything first time - before writing up my extended thoughts, but apart from some repetitive environments and the apparent inability to skip the boss fight at the end, this is looking pretty damn magical and captures the original's vibe very well indeed. Certainly a lot better than bloody Invisible War, anyhow.

Here's an article I wrote on the original game's legacy to commemorate its eleventh (!) anniversary on Sunday, if anyone's interested.

I like the idea that there is such a thing as a deus ex vibe and that I have absolutely no clue as to what that is. Because at no point in time did Human Revolution make me think of Deus Ex. But that I also thought when I played Project Snowblind, after some one in here mentioned it, that I was playing Deus Ex from the point of view of a UNATCO trooper.

Well, what I meant by 'Deus Ex vibe' is that it feels very similar to the original in its murky, slightly oppressive futuristic atmosphere. The augmenting system is also absolutely fantastic, I forgot to mention: an upgrade on the original which is more intuitive but doesn't feel dumbed down. You definitely want to invest in Hacking though.

EDIT: And since my last post was the final one on the previous page, I'm going to be a bit cheeky and relink to my article on the original game.

To me, it evoked the feeling of the first game.

Lots of references to the first game, similar gameplay elements, conspiracy-laden, oppressive atmosphere.

These elements go a long way towards the feeling of the game -

XP gain
rewarded for exploration
creative problem solving
multiple solutions
massive attention to detail

August needs to get here sooner.. I'm getting tired of waiting for this..

That music works wonderfully with the moment when the curtains in Jensen's apartment raise.
Seriously beautiful moment.

That was such a Blade Runner moment. I loved it.

Best game I've played in a loooong time. Maybe best since SS2 but I cant say that for sure until the final game.

First a few positives, and the first would be atmosphere. This game is dripping with it. 3 parts Blade Runner and 1 part Robocop makes for a very convincing world. The RPG elements are perfectly layed out to make you really consider which way you are going to take your character. There is a benefit to whichever way you take your character be it hacker/sneaker or brute.

Also, in most games I dont enjoy being stealthy. It usually feels fake and mostly frustrating. In this game it is very fun to go the stealth route. Of course I always back track and kill everybody. Got to kill everybody.

Biggest negative for me would be the apartments. They are almost always empty. There should be a risk/reward factor to breaking into an apartment. Also there are too few apartments that you could go into considering that this was 1/3 of the city sections.

Really looking forward to seeing how the rest of the game turns out. Right now it is already a must buy.

I knew I'd be in love with this game when, due to my dicking around the office building, the hostages in the opening mission died.

I felt really bad about this.

Quick question, has anyone pre-purchased this game from anywhere but Steam? I ask because you can buy this game for $36 from greenmangaming right now, but I was wondering if I recieve the cd-key now, or in a few months when it's released.

I'd like the key now, so I can activate it on Steam, and be done with it.

Played thru the entire thing against last week.

And my only major gripe, is how take downs and some other moves are cutscenes.

I would have loved if you could sneak below a wall a guard is at, and pull him over to kill/knockout, something like how uncharted does it. You could throw away the cutscenes and just have a handful of animations to choose from, and express the move in 3rd person. Make them quick too.

And it's really silly for the no fall damage mod, just let me fall, I don't need a cutscene every time geez.

I'm also a little bit disappointed in how important hacking is... well unless you look behind that stack of boxes. I do miss lockpickng :(

*Sigh*. I played through about 6 hours of it before I had to stop. The music sounds really good, but everything else is just meh. Very meh. The gunplay is awkward, the character models look badly dated, the game world looks dated (art style isn't strong enough to overcome the technical shortcomings), and I don't really like the characters. Very disappointing.

Gunplay?

There's shooting people in this game?

Eh?

I respect people's opinions, but from what I've seen, everything plays, looks and sounds brilliant. I guess I don't quite understand some of the few complaints I've read. I'm totally blown away so far and DXHR can't hit my hard drive soon enough. Have had the Augmented Edition on pre-order since it first appeared on Amazon.

*shrugs*

Edit: Remember that the build floating around is a beta, not a final product. :)

might as well post it in this thread (hope that's okay, i just think its a good deal):

i'll be getting ANOTHER copy of Deus Ex Human Revolution. Friend of mine is selling it (PC version), Augmented Edition btw (contains deus ex 1, the soundtrack, making of video, artbook, animated storyboard, motion comic), for $43 (Original price is $53) . Its Steamworks so i'll be giving you the code to register it (the game will be gifted on GamersGate, once the release date is near a "show serial key" option will show up, you enter that on Steam and the client takes care of the rest). Cheaper than the regular edition (wich has none of the goodies!)

Update: might be the case that what my friend gets is the regular edition, cant know for sure right now, if that's the case it will still be up for sale at $40

PM if interested

Played through the leak once and immediately put a preorder in full on the game after I finished it. August seems so far away still :\. Really want to play the leak again but I don't want to ruin the experience for myself by playing it to death.

That's exactly what I thought!

I do expect some strong backlash against this game depending on how it's advertised. The dudebro shooter crowd is going to hate it, probably.

Let's hope they can understand what type of game this is. Aka not dudebro at all.

Square Enix Limited v. Does 1-15 U.S. District Court, Western District of Washington Case No. 11-cv-01045, Filed June 22, 2011

Square Enix has filed a new lawsuit against unknown Italian individuals who infiltrated its preview of the new “Deus Ex: Human Revolution” game, downloaded the game, and distributed the preview to third parties.

According to the complaint, and as is common in the video game industry, Square Enix arranged a limited preview of an unpublished version of the game for select members of the video game press. These selected entities could access the game distribution platform through a secret, protected Internet portal. The reviewers were required to sign non-disclosure agreements, prohibiting any distribution of the game preview, and limiting the information they were allowed to disclose about the game.

One of the video game reviewers authorized to view the game preview was an Italian video game review magazine, GMC. Unknown individuals logged into the restricted internet portal to view the game preview using GMC’s access information. According to the complaint this was done without the permission or knowledge of the GMC reviewer, and came from an IP address not associated with GMC. The unknown defendants then proceeded to copy the game preview, and distribute it to other unknown third-party defendants using peer to peer file sharing.

Square Enix is claiming direct, contributory, and vicarious copyright infringement. It has also brought claims under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, citing a provision that allows for claims against unlawful access to information on a “protected computer” used in interstate or foreign commerce. Square Enix contends that its protected internet portal satisfies the description of “protected computer” found in the act. They cite damages in excess of $5000, and are seeking a permanent injunction of copying and republishing against defendants, as well as actual and statutory damages, and attorney’s fees and costs. We’ll update you on future developments in this case.

I'd say they should give those hackers $5000. This leak is probably the best thing that ever happened to this game, I wasn't even interested.
