Deus Ex Human Revolution gone gold

Ah, the one thing that animated GIF recalls to mind are the melee attacks and how awkward they appear. I'm really hoping the final game does a better job transitioning between first person and third person melee actions. As it stands, it feels as if you are pressing a button and it abruptly jumps to a cutscene before returning control. It just looks bad in practice. If they could smooth out the transitions, it would help a lot.

Personally, I would have preferred a Riddick style animation for melee attacks. Keep it first person while still delivering killer animation.
I thought they did the transitions pretty well. The various animations looked really cool, too. My only gripes were how you couldn't do them on someone leaning against a wall or sitting in a couch, and the fact that the window to do a takedown was fairly lenient in that you could do one if you were close enough, even if someone had just seen you.

I can't wait! I've had to stop myself multiple times from playing more of the leak. I played enough to know the game is awesome and don't want to spoil myself further.

Had a huge debate with a friend of mine about Human Revolution recently. He seems to think that it's going to be crap because it ruins everything the original stood for. Asked him what he meant and was met with a tirade of ridiculous nitpicks about how the technology they have in HR is more advanced than in the original, how Jensen seems like an unbeatable superman and how the nanotech augmentetations of the previous games would never be needed if mechanical augs can already produce people like Jensen.

At this point I basically told him to fuck off. If the game comes even close to those amazing trailers, it's going to be superb. Easily my most anticipated game for this year.

Then he doesnt understand anything about either game beyond the aethetics. The technology and aug arguments are invalid if you played 1 and at least read about HR.

And yeah Im excitied about this - end of August is going to be great for gaming here in the UK

Nice, I have this shit prepurchased so I'm good to go.

I'm keeping my expectations low just to be safe, but this game has a lot of potential. Please be good.

He also has to realize at some point a playable game needs to be made. The game's main focus is on augs and if those were dramatically reduced or taken out altogether to match the lesser tech then you'd have just another relatively linear shooter. You wouldn't be able to upgrade all your augs that let you jump to higher places, lift more, etc.

Plus, with augs vs nanos, you look like a freaking cyborg. Most people would prefer to look normal and be able to do cool shit (unlike Gunther)

I don't think it's even worth arguing with him. Just let him try the game when it comes out.

I love Action-RPG's and I love Cyberpunk and . . . . my gut is telling me this title will be a mild flop with the critics. I am thinking a lot of 7's and 8's with a metacritic average in the low 80's.

Many incredible games have MC scores in the 80s. I'll be happy if DXHR can hover in the mid 80s, though I really don't care about MC scores in the first place. I just want these guys to succeed as a studio.

Augmented Edition is pre-ordered already. Will be taking the day off work on the Friday, snacks will be prepared, and toilet roll will be on hand.

Who gives a shit.

I am actually afraid the game falls apart towards the end. Still, the beginning alone justified my purchase. And I just like the guys making it.

If the game holds up all the way through, it will probably by my personal GoTY..

August 23rd is so far away.. can't wait to pick up my augmented edition.

your gut is wrong my dude, the leaked version got pretty much unanimous glowing praise, and if they can deliver on just half of what's been shown/promised this is going to be received really well

I don't know. A couple of podcasts didn't seem that impressed to me, but the general GAF thread was very impressed because it played like Deus Ex

the press probably didn't like it because it played like Deus Ex

Yeah but the gaming press seemed to be unimpressed by what they saw at E3, complaining about the game feeling outdated or some shit. I wouldn't be surprised if it wound up with an 80% or lower metascore, despite being awesome.

This is what I heard as well. I'm expecting this game to tank in terms of review scores.

Why are so many people 'tenatively' excited or going into it with low expectations? The leak was amazing. Did no one else play it? I honestly found the leak to be an improvement on everything Deus Ex 1 did. To me, this is on track to be something even better.

I'd really like to hear the full version of the remixed Deus Ex theme that they used in the first teaser trailer.

Sounds like they are taking the PC version seriously, which I like to hear. I was a bit worried after that 360 pad command prompts and grainy FMV from the leaked preview. The Mouse/Keyboard controls worked great, though.

I listened to the podcasts claimed to be 'negative' about the E3 demo and this is a complete fabrication. Both podcasts I listened to were mostly positive about the game and only had mild nitpicks about things specific to the demo/E3 versions. I mentioned this in a previous thread where someone brought this up; I'm not sure who started this rumor but it's not actually true. (Assuming it's the Weekend Confirmed and Bombcast...I went and listened specifically to those ones as they were cited as saying bad things about it)
