One thing I've learned from all of the Deus Ex thread's we've had: most people who complain have no fucking clue what they're talking about, or at least have really terrible memories.

Well, seeing as DX is my favorite game ever and Ive beaten it about 20 times, let me tell you the answer is neither. I never used that aug, so I never knew it upgraded eventually to sonar.

Regardless of whether or not you knew the aug existed in previous DX's, how would the aug not belong in a DX game like you stated? I think it fits in perfectly.

Like in Batman AA, it just feels like too much of a sanctioned cheat mode. Too easy!

you do know that even if you don't upgrade it the game tells you what happens at each level for all augs? that's how you decide which augs to select at the beginning and invest upgrades in.

The only aug I ever used in DX with regularity was the regen aug.

why do I get the feeling that if we could still search by post history we'd find you complaining about HR including regenerating health?

The crowning achievement of DX for was the environments and atmosphere within them, and thats going to be the biggest hurdle this game will have for me. I can't think of many gaming moments on par with when you first landed in Hong Kong or Paris.

Also, MUSIC. Good luck besting that, SE!

Well unlike AA, I'm pretty sure the vision aug is in the "active" catergory, which means you can't just leave it on indefinitely, you'll never to have enough energy to keep it up, as well as use your other active augs.

Having completed Deus Ex for the first time just the past month, I'm fairly happy with this gameplay trailer. It definitely looks like a DX game to me. Most people here seem to have forgotten about augmentations. They were in DX1 and let you do some crazy shit (invisibility to cameras, super speed and improved jumping, etc.).

Anyway, something like a sonar mode or thermal vision makes sense for a cyberpunk game.

well, you should upgrade it to that point. And that won't be easy I think.

I know, but if this is anything like DX, Ill be swimming in biocells to the extent that active augs can be run pretty damned often.

Seeing through walls is cheating but the wildly overpowered regen aug isn't? :p

We can agree on the music however, Alexander Brandon is a god.

Probably my favorite VG score ever.
The official OST really needed to be at least two discs, probably three. They skipped over most of the combat tracks, which are quite a lot of the game's best tunes.

Nothing like the regen aug, which actually made you very close to invincible.

The game had plenty of broken augs, the balance is not exactly good on that front.

That trailer looked ok I guess, they are definately trying hard.

It's just going to be really hard to beat Deus Ex 1, from the looks of it, it seems they are over-styling everything in the game.. bringing it too close to a Vanquish feel for me. Deus Ex 1 never had to try too hard to be 'cool' or 'edgy', and it didn't need to either.

All the hair-gel, stylish combos and scripted insta-kill moves are for naught if they lose the gritty, stark and moody atmosphere that Deus Ex 1 captured so well.

I think this is a case of rose-tinted glasses. Deus Ex didn't try to look like anything because it just looked like shit even then. Except some parts of Hong Kong, maybe.

Hm I never had any complaints with the graphics myself, haha. I liked how sparse they were, and the textures / weapon designs / voiceovers were awesome in my book.

I'm sure a lot of that wasn't intentional, and was caused due to the limited Unreal Tournament engine at the time. In my mind less is more, and everything I've seen from HR is that they are overthinking and overstylizing just about every element of it.

Deus Ex fans should be shittin themselves right now. If not, fark yourselves you fricken crybabies.

Looks like they really took to heart making a "real" deus ex game.

There is still WAY to much up in the air we dont know which makes statements like these a bit premature. We still know next to nothing about whether the depth of character and quality of writing will be there. Will I have as much fun with an NPC in this as I did killing Big G?

On a superficial level, they certainly are making a "real" DX game, but time will tell if they get the stuff under the hood correct.

Solo, you just posted an unmarked spoiler, delete it so people who haven't played the original won't see it.

Why would you be in here if you havent played it?

*sigh* fine

Were we playing the same game? :lol

As for the spoiler, I'm sure there are many people who haven't played the first one but are interested in how the game looks based on trailers/screens/impressions. Those people may want to try the first one first, and they would have had their experience spoiled.

WTF is that.

Finally get a chance to watch the gameplay trailer, it's not bad, the palette is a bit too yellow, but the fancy melee animations take too long and first-person to third-person transition with a different camera angle kind of breaks the immersion, they should just keep everything in first-person.

My god some of the comments in here are distressing.

"they are trying to hard "

No they aren't fucking trying to hard, they are trying hard to give you a game that you will enjoy which also incorporates a lot of the stuff that was in Deus Ex 1. Deus Ex 1 was an amazing game, however no other Deus Ex will ever surpass it.

You know why? Because in your mind Deus Ex is THE perfect game, which obviously does not exist but why must this game be met with such sarcasm and overall negativity by some?

This game looks amazing, a return to form probably. I liked Invisible War but it certainly wasn't as good as the first game. This one looks to surpass Invisible War by miles.

So get your head out of your asses ( some of you ) and be happy that a new Deus Ex is even coming out after what the last one did for the series.

I didn't follow the series. If it actually turns out to be a great game I'll buy it.*shrug*

If it turns out to be half as awesome as this trailer makes it look I will shit my pants with awe.

Yeah, we've all got skidmarks in this thread. Its our gang symbol.
I'm talking more than skid marks, I'm talking full pants-filling, four-showers-walk-funny-for-a-week horror.

Well...this looks better than most of the games I've bought this year so far. Luckily I've already preordered it. Sad if SE's best game isn't even an JRPG. Well sad and good at the same time. Double edge sword yadda yadda.
