I've been seeing some concerns pop around the web regarding the Automatic Unlocking Device.

Just so everyone knows, it's a one-use item.

Here's the official description:

"Using modified microwave pulse technology, the Automatic Unlocking Device (AUD) unit can neutralize 98% of conventional electronic and digital locking systems. This one-shot device fires a directed high-energy burst into the circuitry of the security unit, overloading it and forcing an immediate disengage; once activated, the discharge consumes the AUD’s internal capacitor and renders the device useless."

I hope the existence of recoil augmentations means the guns will have some meaty recoil to them instead of just having shots do more damage with the augmentation or having certain weapons being unusable without them. I like my guns to have some kick so I would definitely skip any recoil augs.

I might be confused here, but the augmented/special edition comes with all the preorder bonuses, right?

hmm... I automatically assumed all the pre-order bonuses were included. Anyone have a concrete answer to this question?

It looks like that might only be the case for Europe. They did the same thing with JC2. US bonus content was split up between different retailers as pre-order bonuses while Europe got all the bonus content in its special edition.

The image Kotaku provided for the Augmented Edition is lacking that column with the bonus stuff, which is clearly visible in that French version. It seems they're going the JC2 route...

Thank God I'm in the EU territory :D

Meaning you have to sell to MW crowd, which is composed a lot of times of unemployed 12-20 year olds.

Yeeeeeah... this really just isn't how it works. Teens have plenty of time but no money. As a game company, you really don't care about the former and you care quite a bit about the latter.

Pretty much the entire economic path of the industry over the last ten years has been a slow and consistent abandonment of the 10-18 cohort in favor of doubling down on the high-engagement subset of the 18-35 cohort.

Lovely!

How are these weapons inserted into the game? Are they like normal weapons that we'll pick up from hidden places and find ammo distributed around the map or are all of them given to you at the beginning with no rhyme or reason?

the sniper rifle is described as "one shot, one kill" weapon that's so powerful it can't be upgraded. the grenade launcher will insta-kill early enemies. how is it not going to totally break the gameplay balance?

Saudi Arabia. Turns out Kotaku was permanently blocked 2 days ago.

So the government blocked it or just your internet provider? Either way it doesn't sound like a nice place to live.

Do we know what engine this is running on?

It's a modified version of Crystal Dynamic's Tomb Raider engine.

Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal share it for their titles.

Square Enix is also taking the engine and combining it with the Kane & Lynch 2 engine to make a global engine for the 720/PS4. Despite being based on two Western developed engines, the new combined engine development shall be lead by a Japanese team. It shall be... fascinating.

If someone gifts the game from Europe to an American account, does that unlock all of the DLC? I'd probably do that if anyone is willing!

Bonus stuff is bollocks, but I'm hoping we'll get the stuff via Steam with a pre-order.

It feels so weird hearing pre-order stuff about PC game at retail. In my mind everything is digitally distributed for PC these days and that's it. :lol

Fuck those exclusive weapons.
It's kind of depressing how every big name videogame release is tinged with this anti-consumer bullshit. This generation always finds new ways for me hate it.
