Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Reveal Trailer

A new Deus Ex is great and all, but wow was that trailer unsubtle in portraying Jensen as the one true savior of the Deus Ex universe.

Seriously, who hangs lights around that just so happen to resemble angel wings?

I liked everything except the fact that he smokes (I know he did in the last game too)

I thought that shit was banned in movies and tv years ago?

What do you mean "banned"?How can smoking be banned? This makes no sense. The whole trailer is guys getting butchered but a cigarrette is what bothers you?lol

You saw the original HR trailer right...?

Smoking banned in movies and TV? Or video games?

What planet have you been living on?

TV ads have been banned. Not use of them artistically.

Seriously. What kind of rock would you have to live under that this is the first person you have seen on TV or in a Movie smoking a cig?

You saw the original HR trailer right...?

In HR it had a(nother) purpose though, I think it wasn't meant Jensen to be "a saviour". In the golden age of human augmentations, as they also called it in this new trailer, people could be tempted to want more, more and more until the point they can't handle it.

Have you been living under a rock? people smoke in movies and tv shows like a good portion of the time

Also is this the first foray into a deus ex game for a lot of people here? Both HR's and MD's trailer are similar in action and violence yet the actual gameplay in HR proves that that the trailer is not an accurate representation of the final gameplay, yet everyone is thinking that this new game is going to be all action based purely on the trailer.

I did and it wasn't savior symbolism in that trailer: It was referencing the legend of Icarus, his wings burning up from flying so high, much like the myth itself.

It's the same. It's calling back to that first reference of Icarus, without repeating the same imagery.

Although one can easily interpret it as savior symbolism, who's to say it is not just a continuation of the Icarus theme?

Seems to me the game is about humanity still dealing with the implications of reaching to far with Transhumanism. Also seems like more of a redemption story, after Jensen's decisions helped shape the current, less than ideal world situation.

Banned? No. Cigarette companies might have had restrictions put on how they're allowed to advertise cigarettes, I don't know for sure, but movies/tv shows are still allowed to show it.

It may affect the age rating of a movie if a character is clearly shown doing it, though.

Considering what people are allowed to put into movies, I'm surprised you ever believed smoking was banned.

It is a shout out towards the story of Icarus - flying to close to the sun and losing his feathered wings. It's an analogy even in the last Deus Ex HR, representing man going too far with their abilities / knowledge akin to Icarus. It's in the original HR trailer too

He did?
I thought that was Megan.

Not necessarily about the augmentations, because he didn't had a choice, but he took a lot of shit on his plate with trying to uncover what's happening. Going after
top secret projects, governments and illuminati
. I mean, he was just ex-SWAT and head of security, not an experienced covert-op.

I don't know, I kinda interpret that as flying "too close to the sun" with the Icarus symbolism, and at the end (since this is canon) he paid the price.

Depends on which country he/she is in. There is pretty heavy censorship of smoking in movies and TV in Australia and India afaik.

I scoffed hard at that image, mainly because its been done to death.. The dialogue on that part makes me think the icarus thing is last game, angel of redemption seems to be the "New S***"..although there is a shot where he falls into a body of water and has another pair of "wings" on..I just hope its angel of redemption symbolism. The Icarus thing felt more right for the last game.

i can see how you wouldn't understand that given your inability to make the most basic connection to the imagery at hand

but nah really do you not remember the human revolution trailer? that shit happens, it ain't no melting wax

dude gets lit up
Why are you being so aggressive? I'm referring to the story, Icarus in the story flew close to the sun and wax melted and he fell, I only vaguely remember the equally hamfisted imagery in human revolution enough to know what their version of Icarus did, sue me. "the imagery at hand" has mankinds superior angelic savior written all over it.

Which is funny because we know how this story ends.

Jensen clearly has little influence in stopping major plots considering Grey Death that's gonna happen in 20 years.

You know, it saddens me a little to see Jensen join some government force. That he was the representative of a private company had a certain charm to it in the first one. Though this part makes it already a bit more interesting to me

“The division that he’s in, he is probably the only augmented person in that strike team,” says Mary DeMarle, Mankind Divided’s narrative director.

I don't know if people are interested or not, but we found a SHQ german dubbed version of the trailer (40 mbits bitrate!), and remuxed it with the English audio, so there you have it :) No promise it will be perfectly in sync, but image quality should be quite awesome.

i keep rewatching this trailer, might as well do it in the best quality. thanks blim, its super crisp

Uh, really? Smoking never went away. Just watch some True Detective, Mcconaughey would makes a chimney jealous.

Smoking is banned on screen by many Hollywood studios and smoking tobacco products on screen is illegal in California. Shows like Mad Men use herbal cigarettes since they can't use real ones. Zack Snyder had to argue for an exception in Watchmen to allow showing The Comedian with his cigars since Warner Brothers is one of the studios that has banned smoking on screen.

Yup. Disney recently banned it in all their films too. They are even pushing for an R rating if any movie they coproduce depicts it. People might want to get a deeper perspective before making off the cuff "lol" and "living under a rock" remarks.

thought you were bein' a snarker so i decided to bite
guess i'm the idiot though rip

wings of light being angelic imagery is a pretty reasonable interpretation but i see it more as a 'falling icarus' kinda image given the plot presented- especially that last shot where jensen is slowly sinking into water from above

Jensen can smoke freely since he has that health aug repairing any damage the smokes do to his body. There's a conversation between mooks or an email, can't remember which, where one even complains about this since he got the aug too.

Also. any word on take down animations? I HATE them. HATE...HATE...HATE them. Let me just sneak up and crack a neck or something in a second or so . Not some 5 minute cutscene while theres 5 other guys nearby. GER!
If they don't put out DX4 this year, they should definitely put out DXHRDC on next gen consoles.
Either that or an entire HR DC + DX + DX IW pack... build some hype for MD.

Takedowns I don't mind quite as much but also wish you could at least toggle them off, and maybe make it random whether or not the cutscene shows... maybe it shows the first time, and then after that it only shows, say, 10% of the time, and maybe increases by a 5% chance each time it doesn't show... Something so you still see it once and a while but in general you can also perform them directly from FPV.

Pure FPV cover a la GTA V would be a nice option, too.

I think (and hope) that Mankind Divided will be more explicitly about social, cultural, and media manipulation. Everything that Lazarus said in Human Revolution was true: the Illuminati don't care about transhumanism in itself; augmentation (and the conflict surrounding it) is just another method of control. That's why Jensen isn't working with the augmented Russian guy in the trailer. The Russian guy is still trapped in a fight that's been deliberately inflamed by the Illuminati, and he doesn't understand (like Jensen does) that it's all just a distraction from the real enemy.

Maybe we'll get to see the MJ12 coup.

I think it must be. People are complaining about the game having guns and being in first-person. Lots of uninformed posts floating around this thread.

You seem to forget he's not infallible, so as much as a saviour he can also fail, just as it is implied that he failed after the events in Human Revolution.

Hubris is clearly his weakness, he seems to have a hero complex now and it seems like it could easily kill him or his closed ones, whoever remains.

Man, I love Deus Ex. I so can't wait for this game. I hope it's just a little bit more open and diverse than Human Revolution, and it would be practically perfection. HR was one of my favorite games of the previous gen. Loved every second of it.

Such great music too. Fits the setting perfectly.

Icarus and Daedalus are the most recurring theme of the entire series. Those are Icarus wings yet again imo. And eventually either of them are going to finally show up again, maybe not on this one, though.

I love how people who are complaining about the trailer hamfisting LOL ANGELS!!!111 are totally missing the point it is not a depiction of an angel but Icarus.

Over your head, folks.

Then there's this fact as well. Does Mankind Divided mean an eventual updated version of Deus Ex? This game is supposed to be a trilogy and according to wikis, there's room for exploration between Deus Ex Mankind Divided and the rest of the timeline by an estimated 22 years. If Each game takes roughly a year of time then we've got plenty of time. Is it possible to retcon all of the future events with a variation of it's the interpretation of insert shadow organization?

I'm looking forward to seeing which ending the devs used to paint the picture of the landscape of this game. Hopefully they take the approach Infamous devs took and choose the most popular ending. This gives players incentive to reach multiple endings to influence the next game.

Does anyone think that Deus ex human revolution will be available for current gen console if they can get a team B to port it over or no? I'm looking at buying it on my Mac laptop but I do not have the recommended settings.

I doubt it. PS4 and Xbox One install bases are only going to get larger. Backporting to older consoles doesn't happen that often.

Edit: Misunderstood the question. The answer is still, "I doubt it."

I'd appreciate the Director's Cut getting a port. Square does indeed seem like they like ports, but I'm afraid since they've already announced the sequel that it won't happen, as their other ports have generally come out before new announced follow-ups.

Jensen is your one true Lord and Savior. It's about time you deal with it and accept his domination.

Yea I would expect them to announce the port before the sequel but perhaps this will be their ace during E3 to give more gameplay and allow gamers who did not experience HR to experience the Director's Cut. I think people would pay $30 for it as long as it doesn't take away resources for the next game.
