Developer Rejects Player Requesting Steam Key For Supporting LGBT Rights

Operation Caucasus developer Dream Games has given out tons of early access keys for their shooter. But when this player asked for one, sporting a colorful avatar signaling support for LGBT rights, the developer responded with a simple message: “We’re not support lgbt. Please, just f**k you.”

This exchange was posted as part of a negative review for Operation Caucasus on Steam yesterday. (You need to own the game to post a review, but since the game hasn’t officially launched, the player nabbed a key from a friend who managed to get one from the developer, through a Facebook giveaway. That friend didn’t have a rainbow-themed avatar, obviously.)

“If you also think that the developer[’s] homophobia must be clear to all,” wrote ||B.r.|| niveadc, “please check this review as helpful, to stay on top. thanks.”

Instead of walking their comment back, knowing something like this could easily spread much further than a comment thread, they doubled down.

“We’ll never support ‘lgbt,” said a developer writing under and official Dream Games account. “We’re not a toy. This is our freewill.”

“We don’t need their and your money if you’re/they’re from ‘lgbt,’” the developer continued. “You don’t liked our this decide? You can flag this game. This is your freewill. And this decide [sic], our freewill.”

The good thing is bad press isn't an issue since there isn't a lot of competition on Steam

Good on them for sticking to their beliefs and fighting for the cause

This is just going to increase sales for the game - I would have never heard of this shit if it wasn't reported on Kotaku. Look at the comments for the review, we're going to get a horde of right wingers buying this shit to support it.

Other Steam reviews are saying that this is garbage anyway so it will blend in among all the other garbage on Steam. Being quiet would be the best action to take.
 
Why even give these tools an audience? They're making the type of games that only Jim Sterling plays to laugh at on his channel.

It's not like this can really "backfire" on them anyway because they had no audience to begin with. If anything giving them attention for this is bound to get a few purchases from the dregs of the internet that want to show how edgy they are.
 
Ha, thought that said Devolver for a minute! Glad it's not them as I like a lot of their games.

Fuck this employee in particular though. I don't want to damn the whole company as it all depends on how they react to this (assuming it's all one guy posting these messages)
 
I was betting this is a russian writing in english, jusging by the mistake. Couldn't find the location of the studio on my mobilw browaer, but the founder's name sounds russian. So I wouldn't be surprised.

Can anyone confirm?
 
Have statements like these ever *not* backfired??? It's such a fine line between reckless confidence and ignorance, sometimes.
 
We are living in an age where i genuinely feel the developers are doing this on purpose to direct attention to their game....which is working.

Unfortunately, I think this should be applied in any comment section regarding LGBT+ topics.

I don't have the stomach to read some of the things some people say to/about people just because they're a part of the LGBT+ community. I fail to see how anyone can have such a lack of empathy.

Valve has never, EVER, cared.

We know the loop this undergoes. These guys will be shitheads about this for the next 12 hours. When they realize it's not going to disappear, they're going to nuke their forums and ban people who tried taking them to task, hoping that it'll all blow over and claiming that they never nuked their forums or banned anyone.

Valve lets this happen every single time.

Calling people SJW is the shortcut to dog-whistle politics on any forum, not just internet, to "ignore everything that person says."

It's basically a trash term that people resort to when they have no argument in the first place.
 
This thread shows the issue with the topic. You better had not opened it.

No one gave a fuck about this game. No news outlet gave them space, no one talked about "Operation Caucasus" for even a second. This game is so generic and bad, it was deemed to fail. End of story. Now they got everyones attention. EVERYONES. Media, LGBT groups, the random guy on the internet. And they will have good sales soon, because there will be people who put down money just because they said that and media (including NeoGAF) made a big fuzz about it. The guys "who are against the mainstream" will support this shit game and shit words.

They won, regardless what you think, write or do about it. That is the only issue here.
 
That's such a weird thing to say. I don't think i've ever heard anyone say that they don't support LGBT, i mean i've seen people not supporting them but not making a point of it.
 
Given how Jim Sterling is part of the lgbtq community we are in for one hell of a jimquisiyion next week.

And also fuck these developers and I hope they never, ever obtain any success as a game developer while they hold these, or any, bigoted views. I hope your dream dies.

Well this game came along a few months ago and released exactly as what it released as now as well. A demo.

Last time they tried selling it off on Steam it was removed within a day because of this attempted scam. Now the game is back and it is EXACTLY the same. A 1 lvl stage no bigger then a football field. With around 15 enemies armed with guns and a few raised areas for decoration with a water area in the middle (water is fake and has no depth even though the menu states there is a swimming option.....) where you can walk on it a-la-Jesus.

Now if that wasn't enough , during the first attempt to pass off this scam. We the players tried helping them by telling them what NOT to do. Like censoring criticism when true , lying about the state of the game , selling a demo (that didn't work then) as a game (for a game not even started on...) (their store page never reflected that it was a demo even though it was on the released page).

They didn't listen and shortly during the out pour in the forums , Steam removed the entire store page.

Now they are back and yes the demo actually works now (somewhat...). Sadly its not a game or even much of a demo. It took me all of 2 mins to kill all enemies and realize that there was nothing else in this "game" , certainly not an hours worth of content. Much less any actual fun . Hell, any actual gaming to be done.

Debatable. The game is clearly bad quality, I doubt it will get any meaningful sales.

Homophobia in the industry and community shouldn't be hidden, in my opinion. It should always be brought to light, so it can be dealt with. In my case, now that I know this I won't be supporting this developer.

The Hatred approach, I could see it

Though that one was worse because you had geniuses going through their facebooks and shit to dig up anything for articles. "they wore black metal shirts and the one guy likes a Neo-Nazi thing on facebook, wowwwww"

Hopefully it ends with people seeing this and saying "yeah that's dumb"
