Dexter Season 2 thread (Showtime TV series)

Just watched episode 3. Yeah great episode but I don't really like the direction they're taking dexter.
So what now, by the end of this or the next season he'll be 'cured' and a normal person? to hell with that. I want BLOOD.
Oh and dokes (sp?) finding dexter in the meeting was all kinds of awesome. My first thought was "did he hear dexter talk or did he only arrive at the end" but all of that didn't matter in the end when he actually bought the story. Party of me felt sad that he won't be chasing dexter anymore but the story needed that, our boy needs his killing time.

Chrono, you're assuming a lot there.
I doubt Doakes totally trusts our pal Dexter, he's still a weirdo. I hope he doesn't stop his killing ways, as well, I would find it very unrealistic if he did. I'm hoping he just becomes more comfortable with himself.

He won't stop killing because Showtime has a major hit and they're not going to end it after two seasons. He may learn to control it better and use some lessons to refine his techniques though... or perhaps it'll somehow become problematic and he'll have to prevent himself from internalizing anything from the program.

Sure, but the team interviewed dozens upon dozens of people who were looking for missing persons. She notices that two of these missing persons, which may have absolutely nothing to do with the tiny percentage of missing persons found at the bottom of the bay, have something in common and suddenly it's a lead. man, the scene from episode 1 of season 2,
where the treasure hunters found the sea of wrap bodies is the most freighting scene i had saw in this series so far.

purpose. Hopefully they'll do some more flashbacks with his dad where basically the dad tells him he needs to have purpose or something. So far he's been doing it the way he has because his father made him that way.
I thought it was easily the best episode yet this season. The first two were pretty good, but I thought this one was the best since S1. I always knew they'd take him in this direction (hell, its been obvious since early S1 that Dexter is lying to himself; no matter how many times he told us that hes inhuman/has no feelings, his actions always speak differently), and I am liking it. The second addicts meeting when he spoke truthfully about himself was great. And a nice way to shake Doakes off. For a while.

My favourite of the season so far as well. Although, I did not like the use of the cheesy description "Dark Passenger" crappy writing like that should stay in the crappy books (hey, the series is a great concept, but with a great concept there needs to be competent writing, something Jeff Lindsay has trouble producing).
Nitpicks aside, I'm loving what they are doing with Dexter. And a lot of that is attributed to Michael C. Hall's continually mesmerising performance.
My favourite bit was Doakes actually believing Dexter was a drug addict and being semi sympathetic. Heh. Awesome.

Anyone else watch tonight's episode? I'm finding the entire drugs/death parallel to be lacking in subtlety...in fact, pretty much every storyline is failing at being subtle. It's like the entire show has been boiled down to the simplistic irony of Dexter having to face his reality in magazines and at work, and how it's affecting him. Where is my cold and calculated Dexter Morgan?

The doakes AA meeting thing last week was hilarious, but i really hope they dont focus too much on the girlfriend/sponser thing too much this season unless they do something unexpected with it. The show is too awesome to slow it down with sappy love triangle drama.

Caught up with the season 2 episodes now. What a pleasant experience after watching stuff like Prison Break, and Heroes.

meh. While I might actually agree with you somewhat they have still both been excellent seasons. And if I'm putting on my critical hat, the first season started to fall apart towards the end of the season so here's hopping that doesn't happen in season 2.
On a side note, I love how Dexter extends arcs over multiple episodes and then pays them off. It hits that sweet spot. It's not like Lost where it dangles something too long but it doesn't compensate in the other way and wrap up everything within an episode or two. Reminds me of the Shield in that way.

:lol I don't know what it is but that chick almost inspired me to make a fucking thread. It's not like she is classically beautiful or something but I find chicks like her way fucking hotter than the Jessica Alba types. I think I mix in the personality and that raises the looks quotient or something...

I feel the same way. For me the 2nd season felt a bit slow and awkward at first but by the end of episode 2 all was right in the world again and Dexter was ready for the upcoming challenges.
Dex's sister needs to take a back seat now, she's get annoying when given the spotlight. Doakes is so bad he's good. Possibly one of the most two dimensional cliches on TV and do you see him flashing the Blue Steel? My wife's taken to making fun of him.
Dex is great though, I like Angel and the Asian dude is the fucking funniest. "She's gonna fuck me SILLY!"

Just watched episode 4, and there's one absolutely horrible scene towards the end that ruins all the other good work the ep does. Was just cringe-makingly bad and totally false.

Not sure where the writers' are going with Dexter's hunt too, at first he was holding his heart amazed at how 'alive' he felt and now he's not happy they hunt is intensifying and wants to hang out with his hippy sponsor?

I like the ensemble cast. The challenge is certainly giving them worthwhile subplots. I didn't like the boss subplot for portions of it but the resolution was enough for me to give it a thumbs up.
