DF: Dark Souls 3 Xbox One Frame-Rate Test

I wish the new cards would come out already so I can upgrade my PC. I honestly doubt I'll get any better performance between my PS4 and my 670 given the way current gen games are optimised for PC (bloated as hell vram requirements).

To me these games are always about the biggest community and I've always found the consoles to have a much more active one. Maybe this will be different but from what I've seen of DS1/DS2 shit was way more lively on consoles. So I start with that version and I get the PC one when its sub $10 for all that extra bling.
Not that it matters much, but as far as Dark Souls 2 is concerned, that is not correct. Here's a chart of the publicly available PVP event data in the months following the launch:

As you can see, PC tracks well with the more popular console version.

Given the rich history of Souls games on consoles, this is fine and fairly playable. Regardless if you care about performance you should be playing on PC anyway so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I am curious if the game has those frame pacing issues on PC if you have a 120hz or 144hz mointor with the built in 60fps cap (not using RTSS).

It always shoots up to the highest 60hz vsync due to the odd frame pacing while capped at 30 for 60hz displays on cosole, I wonder if the same would happen from 16.6 to 8.8 as well.

Thankfully there is RTSS, so it all does not matter!

So, by now we can definitely rule that the frame pace issues are ENGINE related and basically unfixable (either by being actually unfixable without a lot of effort or either because no one outside GAF really cares about it so From has no incentives to do something about it), right?

*sigh*

Why show just the average though? Lowest framerate is more important IMO. Although, unless you're using something that displays framerates as your guage while you actually play, benchmarks can be horribly misleading at times, especially with transitions. Unigine Valley for example tanks minium framrates every time it switches scenes, even when you're able to run it at 60fps flawlessly.

If you insist:

any news on PS4 version?
If it runs like BB, that will be enough for me. Frame pacing issues appeared only in certain places for me, and usually not during combat.

have they tested the ps4 version yet.. im used to BB i would lovve to get this on pc but i cant... this well be my first DS on console and on my hdtv..

Having been playing the PC version for 58 hours (steam) and seeing how much more smoother the experience is compared to the X360 version it makes me quit disappointed that the frame rate is this unstable, I do have a choice between PS4 and PC, however... the thing is, the way I have my computer set up is that playing games on it isn't as comfortable on PC as it is on PS4. So unfortunately based on my preference I can't justify spending 50 to 60 euros on the PC version and the console version is the way to go, at least at launch. This kinda sucks... hell it sucked for the last 2 years, the performance on console has been pretty bad for way to many games.

I've watched a few streams, didn't seem any worse than BB to me.

I'd say it's about the same if not little better. It might be a total mess in later parts of the game but so far so good.

Also seems like there's a glitch for people playing the game offline that it makes the game run like shit.

This generation...they've painted themselves into a corner with the current hardware specs unfortunately. And we're only at the beginning with regard to the life cycle

I dont think that we are at beginning at all... more like almost in the middle. I dont think this gen will be that long

Hmm, yes...Just what we thought.

It does seem From Software made this.

Didn't stop me from loving Bloodborne though. Hopefully a bit better on PS4 and PC.

I play every multiplat game on my Xbox one, but this is the first one I've pre-ordered for ps4. I pre-ordered the collectors months ago though, I just want that larger player base.

I'm going to try and get an Xbox elite controller and get it working on my ps4 though. Don't love the ds4.

Lots of frame-pacing. FROM's codebase may not play well with AMD's APU.

Both look kinda choppy, XBO slightly more so. At the start frame pacing is really noticeable in XBO while PS4 looks fine. Shadows also look worse in XBO.

I still think performance is good enough and if performance is a priority for you you should play on PC anyway.

I think this is a perfect example why we'll see new hardware this year from Microsoft and Sony. While the PS4 is marginally stronger, both systems are lackluster and I feel being able to alleviate that while also maintaining compatibility across all games is something to be seriously considered. Update the systems as the new technology becomes readily available, not once every blue moon anymore especially with how far ahead PC gaming has gotten.

I mean, you still get to play it early and that's what you paid for.

Don't know what you expected from an Xbone multiplat.

True, should have expected this going with an Xbox one game, it frustrates me how underpowered that console really is coming from PS4 exclusives and PC multiplat games

Frame pacing issues are frequently in the game at all times. I assume that it will run the same as bloodborne does currently on PS4.

Missing particles effect and way worse shadows in the xbone version.

Did you quote the wrong person? I feel like you did.
What does what I said in my quote have anything to do with your post.

I'll help you out:
Nothing.

Kudos to you guy.

Bloodborne performance would be fine with me. The frame pacing issue is annoying and it's incredibly stupid that it hasn't been fixed yet, but it was otherwise solid and I don't remember it being as frequent as it is in the Xbone vid.

I noticed the frame pacing in Bloodborne but it didn't bother me much. The drops in certain Chalice Dungeons were really apparent and awful, though, but represented a small portion of the game.

Uhh, the games use the VRAM. They don't just toss a bunch of shit in there so they can say you need a certain amount. Been happening since PCs were used to play games decades ago.
