DF: The Division on Xbox One uses dynamic resolution scaling

Really like the flexibility that dynamic resolution has been affording devs when it comes to maintaining playable framerates without globally nuking detail. It's a great solution that goes unnoticed ~80% of the time and often adjusts so quickly afterwards that it doesn't get in the way of things. The fact that it tends to drop predominately during rapid movement and action, in which tiny details aren't being observed under scrutiny (by someone actually playing the game) makes it even better.

As long as I don't notice whilst playing, I'm all for dynamic resolutions. Performance is important. It makes sense in a game like this where I guess situations can vary in intensity quite a lot.

Did mention this in the other thread, though Dictator responded that he thought it could be sharpening differences.

Nice. More current gen action games should use this if they can't have a stable framerate at 1080p.

And hey, I guess some posters here will change their mind about buying the game! Win win (heh).

I am really liking this trend of dynamic resolutions. I wouldn't really mind if it was 900p at all times, but its nice that it can bump up the resolution when not under load. I never noticed anything like a resolution shift in all of my hours of playing, so I'd say that is a job well done.

When I played the Alpha it seemed like it was 720p, very blurry and I was put off on it. Playing the beta and was pretty impressed with the improvement between the Alpha and Beta. Perhaps in the final they can lock it down, but even if they don't, I think the way it looks in the beta is great. I also played the PS4 and PC version and honestly, the PS4 vs. XB1 were pretty damn close. I only really noticed a little less hitching in the PS4 version and did not notice Screen tearing.

I hate screen tearing, but the minimal amount in the Xbox One version was fine with me. It did not tear very much at all. The entire time playing the beta, I did not feel that it was changing resolution or anything, I guess coming from the Alpha to the Beta it was just a night and day difference.

It sounds like all around, regardless of which platform you have, we are getting a great looking game that performs very well on each platform. I pre-ordered on Xbox One mainly due to the amount of friends I know are also getting the Xbox One version, but I have to say, if they did not improve it from the Alpha visually, I would of gone PS4 instead because it did not look all that great in the Alpha.

Performance over resolution. It's not bad to want both though and it isn't bad to want the same performance as the other console. Yes it does suck.

It is bad, or at least unreasonable, when the two consoles aren't equal in terms of capability.

900p and dynamic resolution seems like the best baseline for the Xbox.

Wtf, it's not bad for consumers to want that. It becomes bad when the developer wants that.

You can want what you want, but considering the entire history of Xbox One games I'd think expectations would start to settle down at least a little bit. The Xbox and PS4 had fundamentally different design goals and tradeoffs, and that's shown itself time and time again in these differences across multiplatform titles.

Sure, I'm just saying it's not shameful to want your XBO version to perform as good as the PS4 version.

Probably good news. Its likely between optimization and dynamic rez that the final game will clean up the minor screen tearing that was going on in the xbox version. Sounds like a win.

The other thread was terrible yet some that were so deeply offended by it tried to turn this thread into the same thing.
Incredible logic.

Thanks guy.

You would think that "we" were above the shitshow the other thread turned into then wouldn't you?

But it turns out they were right, the hardware difference does matter. X1 isn't solid 30fps and has tearing while dynamically changing res trying to go for 1080p.

The narrative was that one site said 1080p flat and that's what sparked it. They were wrong.

So tearing, frsmedrops and subHD resolutions huh?
The xbone is starting to tear at the seams trying to keep up. Wasn't rhis also a Dx12 game?

The game would be/run worse without the methods they are using. "Keeping up" with dynamic resolution to make the framerate more stable is better than having the more issues at 1080p all the time (or possibly a lower resolution).

First PS4 AF-ton and now XB does this?!?

Sub-1080p has been happening since launch on both PS4 and Xbone. And the first use of dynamic resolution (or at least different resolutions in some areas) this gen was the Xbone version of Tomb Raider DE soon after launch iirc.

Most PS4 versions of games are in Native 1080p.

What would a dx12 game exactly be? Other than the confirmation and justification that the xbone can't close the evident and well known power gap?
I mean there wasn't an official release for dx12 on xbone, like at all. We already know what it is about.

This is how the Xbox needs to do it with every game imo. If used well you can't usually spot it because there is usually explosions on screen etc see halo 5 and then the image quality looks the best it can in less demanding scenes. I really hope this is Microsoft and third parties plans going forward. Then I would buy the majority of titles on xbox due to controller preference and system noise etc

Wasn't Killzone SF (MP) the first?
Got critcised for not holding 1080p when in motion or something...
