DF: TMNT Mutants In Manhattan PS4/Xbox One: Platinum's Worst Game?

It's not like 60 FPS would save the lackluster mechanics and boss fights or make the overall experience fun anyway. I'm really disappointed as a fan of the turtles.

If only Turtles could have gone to the Transformers team. Amazing game, but I don't particularly give a shit about that IP...

I think I might still get this with a heavy discount though.

I think it's kinda obvious as well the director of Turtles.... just isn't as good as some of the others in Platinum. Hell I liked Korra as well but it looks like they had more time with Turtles and they couldn't even make something as fun as Transformers Devastation. Still, I'll pick it up when it's dirt cheap.

how do you figure they had more time with this than Korra?

30fps or 60fps with good or bad gameplay, I'll still buy the game because I'm a fan and because I'll trust my judgement only.

Looks like some people really had some irrational, pent-up dislike for PG that they were just waiting on an open window for to unleash, despite it being pretty obvious that it's not really their faults while ignoring all the fantastic games they've made.

Genuine fans can't express their disappointment over a game they were looking forward to for a long time turning out like shit?

That Ubisoft TMNT last gen waa pretty good.

Good Taste Havers understand that Platinum can put out bad games. MadWorld happened, after all.

This is a bummer for sure.

I liked MadWorld, but you may be interested to know that the guy who directed TMNT also was on the design team for MadWorld (Shirahama). Coincidence? [shrug]

Shirahama's also been a designer on Anarchy Reigns, Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 as well as the director of Legend of Korra.

Uh yeah, that's me too but I'm not bashing the studio or making comments like "oh, well, looks like everyone's precious Platinum isn't so hot after all!"

30fps shouldn't be a game changer. i mean really people. come on. so tired of the argument that 30 fps means it's a bad game, in this case he's saying due to it being on ps4, which is his number one talking point. so dumb and elitist. get over it. videogame culture has gotten so spoiled. I understand the exceptions of why it may be better in some cases, but because its 30 and not 60 doesn't warrant harsh criticism to deter buyers. Sure the other points he discusses are valid, but locked 30 on ps4 should not be held with such disdain.

... I think I'm going to play my Konami Ninja Turtles games instead.

This is very disappointing. Platinum and Ninja Turtles should be a match made in heaven...

... Not a rushed, repetitive, exceedingly short and simple overpriced cash-in rushed out the door to tie-in to a shoddy movie (note: haven't seen the movie; making Michael Bay assumptions here).

To be fair to the guy, being a designer is much easier than a director.
However yeah, his record as a director is pretty bad so far.

The issue with the 30 FPS is that for co-op to work, they would have to half the FPS to make it happen. So instead of going 60 FPS and 30 FPS co-op, we got locked 30 FPS with no AA/ no co-op.

Honestly ? I'm just guessing here, I obviously don't know. Going by the videos it seems to look bigger than Korra but maybe I'm wrong. The pricetag is what hurts as well, this is Activision wanting that easy moola.

But I will say this, if these smaller projects actually keep Platinum alive to make their bigger games then I'm all for it.

Sounds like a lot of assumptions and reaches to make just to defend a developer making a mediocre game.

Platinum took the job probably knowing things like budget and time frame in advance.

Put the cape down and just realize this is who Platinum is.
We can place half of the blame to Platinum but we can't ignore that this is the same type of quality all of Activision's license games fall under. We'll never know what a TMNT game with more time and a bigger budget by Platinum would have turned out.

I am heart broken. I don't know how I will make it through the day. I think I am going to order 4 pizzas and eat them by myself so I can feel even more miserable than I already am.

It's patently obvious this job was taken just to keep the lights on.

I feel this and starfoxs failure and inabas departure are related.

Platinum have moved from my day zero list to, "hmm, let me just wait a bit" list.

Well, I mean, Transformers Devastation was great!

But yeah. This reeks of "we had to meet movie deadline." Which is fine, honestly. We know Platinum is capable of greatness if given time (and sometimes without a lot of time, like Revengeance!)

Maybe this means Nier: Automata will ROCK!

so at one time this year they had their fingers in Scalebound, Star Fox Zero, Star Fox Guard, Nier 2, and this game.

I thought their output was mightily impressive, I still do, but there had to be a weak link there somewhere I guess.

I don't think it's an issue of "movie deadlines" as much as it is the fact they didn't exactly give it to their best team.

Like I previously said, Transformers Devastation had the director of Metal Gear Rising behind the wheel, while TMNT had the director of...Legend of Korra, which was already considered one of Platinum's weaker titles. Yeah.

Yeah, it sounds like it could've been they were so busy they ended up spreading their staff too thin, and then whoever wasn't working on their premier titles had to pick up the scraps for this. Or something. I haven't seen the credits. If so that probably might not have helped.

Agreed, I don't think movie deadline counts anymore when we got Ratchet and Prince of Persia tie-ins that were actually good and maybe better than the stuff tied to it.
I honestly think Activision didn't give much of a budget due to level 5 recycling content from level 3 (according to a gaffer). They did the same thing with THPS5.

Ratchet was an exception not the norm

This is really disappointing, I don't even care about Transformers yet I loved Devastation.

I actually enjoy TMNT so I thought this would be even better. Bummer.

Bought it, beat it (in 2 and a half hours...) hated it.
Not only is it the worst Platinum title, it's one of the worst TMNT games. Out of the Shadows is legitimately a better and more fun game.

If you want a repetitive button masher with clunky controls, iffy servers and a boring story, you'll get it here.

Their first 30 fps action game since MadWorld, right?

nope

I have to believe that Platinum did the best they could do with the time and resources they had at their disposal. I presume with Transformers being the bigger IP without a specific movie to tie it to they had more time and resources to make what they did compared to what has happened to TMNT.

Ultimately its this work that keeps the lights on while they make games like the Nier sequel. Looking to the future it seems more prudent than ever not to preorder Platinum games and get an idea what the game is at release before you make that purchase. Ill be getting TMNT but it was never not going to be anything but a bargain bin type purchase...

Ratchet and Clank was just the universe balancing itself out after Sonic Boom.
