Diablo 3-style game for consoles?

With all this Diablo 3 hype going on and all my friends telling me to play Diablo 3 because it's so awesome, I am really interested in getting it and playing it, except my PC is a terrible machine that will probably explode as soon as I insert the D3 disc. So instead, I am looking for a console game that will fulfill my cravings for a good dungeon crawler. Does anything come to mind? I thought about Dungeon Siege 3 but from what I can gather it's pretty terrible. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

I had some fun with Sacred 2! :)

I don't want to blow your balloon though, but Diablo III is funnier x10 imo.

EDIT: *looks at posts below*

Fuck yeah, Torchlight! XD Totally forgot to call it.

Even though it's a Gameloft game, Dungeon Hunter: Alliance is actually quite enjoyable with friends. Hack and slash + looting. And it's cheap.

DS3 is not that bad at all. Very different to the old DS games but not a terrible game. (co-op)
Borderlands is a non Diablo Diablo game.(co-op)
Daggerdale is an ok game but pretty clunky.(co-op)
Too Human is a great Diablo game, marred by some tricky controls and GAF hate.(co-op)
Castle Crashers is a good side-scrolling Diablo type game.(co-op)
Torchlight XBLA is also good, even despite teh lack of PC mods, the controls make it a better choice overall. (sp)
Dark Souls is a great alternative Diablo game as well.(co-op kinda)
Dragon's Dogma will probably fill the Diablo itch also. (sp)

If Heroes of Ruins (3DS) turns out to be good -- I have doubts, but it's ambitious, at least -- you could try that.

Why would you even bother with the console version if you have the PC one already?

'Cause I want to play it with a gamepad, and I prefer "console gaming".

Wow I did not expect such a unanimous vote for one game (am I still on GAF??). I've vaguely heard of Torchlight, but I'll check it out. Isn't there a Torchlight 2 coming out soon or something?

Torchlight is as close as you'll get. Doesn't have the staying power of Diablo, but it'll still be worth the low asking price.

And yeah, stay away from Dungeon Siege 3. First off, it's not a loot game. Besides that, it just isn't very fun to play.

Yeah, but it's only on PC. Enjoy Torchlight, it should be a nice intro to the genre.

Torchlight 2 is coming out on PC only for now.

Diablo III, when it gets a console version :3

I'm going to double dip on that so hard

I dont see how Diablo 3 would work on consoles, you need to be very fast with the mouse sometimes in this game, and i dont see a controller stick being anywhere near as effective.

Well Blizzard seems to think they might have it down, if their frequent comments are any indicator. You're assuming that the stick would have to mimic a cursor, but it wouldn't really. It could just control similarly to a twin-stick shooter.

There are a few skills where you need to determine both direction and distance with a click, but if they used some sort of auto-targeting system, it would totally work.

Dungeon Siege 3 is a game one really needs to try for themselves (there is a demo) to see if they like it or not. I'm enjoying it myself. I'm playing the PC version though so perhaps that runs better then the console versions. I do wish I had picked up the console version to play this while on my couch but the PC was on sale for $5 when I got it.

There is Torchlight on Xbox Live Arcade as said. Enjoyed the PC demo but never go around to getting it. Might give the Xbox version a try. Scared 2 but the I found the camera in Sacred 2 to be horrible. Heroes of Ruin I hope turns out well.

Does anyone know if Torchlight 2 will becoming to the the Xbox as well or any other console (PS3 or Wii U)?

Realms of Ancient War will be releasing soon

Nice. Didn't know about this.

Sacred 2 is a bad game single player (on consoles, that is) in my opinion but fun can be had co-op.

Torchlight on XBLA is great.

If you want to go older...

Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance

and

Balduer's Gate Dark Alliance 2

BGDA2 is relatively rare by comparison but is a much better game with more character class options and such.

The 360 version of Torchligt isn't too hot. Pretty bad framerate, sadly. If you can get past that, then go for it. Check out the trial first.

Do not play Sacred 2. It's a glitchy mess, and it runs like shit. For some reason they decided to render the game in 1080p, unless you set your console to 480p, so it tears like mad and has major framerate issues. It's borderline unplayable if you choose certain skills that will slow down the game to 5-10 fps.

It's a shame that there aren't more good hack n slash games on current gen consoles.

EDIT: Torchlight can run on almost anything though, so if you post your PC specs you might get that version instead, because it's superior to the 360 version.

There have been solid ports of diablo likes in the past, torchlight is probably the best adaptation and it worked well but diablo III would need some hefty retooling though. I imagine they'd have to completely gore hell and inferno to get it to be playable with the way combat and mobs evolved. It wouldn't be worse, it'd be completely impossible. I'm on the controller support team but Im getting a headache even trying to think about it.

Combined with the AH it's no wonder the mere consideration of a console port is such a large under taking. I hope they do it though, especially if they can get same room coop running on it, it'd be an interesting double dip.

There is also Champions of Norrath: Realms of EverQuest and it's sequel Champions: Return to Arms. I remember enjoying the first game but never got around to playing the sequel though. These were PlayStation 2 games as well.

Word is Torchlight 2 is too big for the 360's memory limit, so a port would mean completely rebuilding the game, which is too costly to pursue.

Thanks. Here's hoping that it does end up on the Wii U at some point. No problem double dipping if the game turns out well. Enjoy playing these games with controllers an don consoles.

Diablo is about buttons?

Diablo III needs six buttons for skills and a seventh for potions, not counting any interface or inventory or any other such design. Trying to stuff it all one. Touch screen controller that you also aim on is going to wind up worse than kid Icarus.

They'd be better off adapting it for dual analog, dumbing down hell and removing inferno and using the touch screen for menus and inventory

Diablo 3 Vita announcement at E3 BELIEVE! :D control with rear touch screen, mash abilities and so forth on the frontal screen/facebuttons. Adhoc multiplayer!
