Diablo 4? Diablo 3 addon? Diablo 2 remaster / remake? The are obviously hiring for a new Diablo game for a while now.

Its also 20 years of Diablo in 2016.

It has to be diablo 4.

The D4 in the dice set for blizzcon this year has a printing error / hint that points to the date of blizzcon. Plus Diablo 3 is in maintenance mode and blizzard has been hiring for new positions for a new diablo project for a while now.

You do the math.

Edit: To elaborate on the printing error. The side that should read 1-1-1 reads 1-1-4 or in other words, 11/4, November 4th, the day blizzcon begins... On a D4 dice...

I dont know if its been too long for a new D3 xpac. If it does turn out to be D4 it needs to have most of the current D3 feature set as standard.

D4 might be a new one or a huge new expansion..we wait until blizzcon, reaper of souls is amazing still the amount of new content added kept the game fresh and i played so many hours of this game 2000+ hours on combined of all classes since launch of RoS.

The 1 week of playing time patch updates got stale a long time ago. Time for a new game or huge expansion that drastically changes the end game. 2k+ player here. Path of exile made me realize how end game can be done right.

Seems early for Diablo 4. What was the amount of time between Diablo 2 and 3? Starcraft and Starcraft 2? 10+yrs? Close to it I believe.

D2 Remake would be to good to be true so it won't happen. I really hope they learned their lesson with D3 and make a worthy follow up to D2 this time around.

While I played D3 a lot it never ever reached the digital crack status of D2.

For me they would have to make dramatic changes in D4 to get me excited for Diablo again. D3 was such a massive disappointment. They went in a different direction Diablo which is fine but I'm not a fan of the direction they went. Just don't have any hope they are going to go in a direction I like.
I'll hope for the best though.

It seems too early to announced D4, so I'm inclined to say that it is a remaster. Both are surely in the works though given what we know. Further expansions on D3 seems out of the picture.

I can't tell you how excited I would be for a Diablo 1 HD release

Shit I would be incredibly excited just to be able to get a digital version of that first game untouched

I would like a Diablo I remake with two gameplay modes, a "modern" gameplay similar to newer games (D3, PoE...), and an "old school" mode with tile-based motion, but using the newer graphical engine.

I'd only want a D2 remake if it's an actual remake. All new assets, some QOL fixes, etc

If it's not that then I'd much rather have Diablo 4.

Diablo 3 was four years ago. That's quick by Blizzard standards, but still not entirely unheard of.

If it IS Diablo 4 I hope the console version is day and date with the PC release.

Actually that's true for anything they announce.

Why are people suggestiong D4 instead of expansion pack 2, which by Blizzard standards would make more sense. At least to me.

Because it's been 2 1/2 years. Obviously that isn't the decade+ that was between D2 and D3, but it's also a hell of a big gap to just release an expansion after, especially considering it would be at least 3 years since RoS once it actually released.

D4 would bring in a lot more players than a D3 expansion. It could also serve as a better base game if they wan't to continue Diablo support for the foreseeable future. A lot of the systems designed for 3 flopped hard. D4 would be a better investment than delaying it until after yet another expansion.

I don't believe Blizzard will ever announce "Diablo 4". I could be totally off, but my feeling is that with Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2, they have come to realize that making sequels in this way limits what they can experiment with and what fans have come to expect from sequels to "classic" Blizzard games. While they have certainly turned Diablo 3 around, announcing Diablo 4 now will make fans wonder if it is too early and if they're starting to "milk" the franchise with a quick sequel. Another Diablo 3 expansion would just be diminishing returns at this point.

On the other hand, looking at Starcraft 2's Nova Ops, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, and Overwatch, I think Blizzard is transiting completely into a more episodic seasonal service-driven product line. It makes sense to me then, that alongside remasters of older Blizzard games, they would also want to reboot Diablo as a product to something which they can get out quicker, get more feedback from fans, and push through new content at a regular basis. So I don't think it'll be "Diablo 4" so much as a brand new Diablo.

They just did a warcraft patch. Something interesting would be releasing the old games on consoles/PC with HD updates for Warcraft and Diablo (don't think you can get Starcraft on a console but I don't know). Announce D4 but its a few years away and just release this legacy editions over the next few years until D4 releases.

You posted this while I was writing. I think this episodic path does seem to be where they want to go. I would add that another Activision (Bungie) wants to do the same thing with Destiny. Looks like it's going to be a corporate model going forward.

World of Diablo incoming.
