To appreciate this game you need to abandon all seriousness and embrace that it'll be all about messing around. But I guess the thing is, can't you do that in other Battlefield's already, to a greater degree, and also?
So I'm not quite convinced by that, and I'm not convinced by the price point, taking in mind the amount of content other games in the series have offered.
BF1942, 18 maps, $40.
BF2, 12 maps, $40.
BFBC, 8 maps, plus proper singleplayer, $60.
All of these got a bunch of free maps eventually.
BF1942, 3 remade BF1942 maps, one of which is fucking Wake Island...again. $15.
I'm struggling trying to justify a purchase at this point.
They say it's about capturing the spirit of BF1942. But honestly, with smaller maps, less than half the players, regenerating health and ammo, less classes, no naval warfare, huge carriers, no B17, no wingwalking, no jeep launching or glitchy AA guns, and probably no headbanging...I'm not so sure they've done that. If that stuff would've been in, maybe I would've been too. Seems more like Heroes mixed with Bad Company on 1942 maps from where I'm standing. At least I think they've retained the Hitler-mobile's slippery rear end, so that's always something.
I shall try the demo.
