DICE has truly created the GOTY* with BF4

Obviously they can't turn the tide of a battle, but sometimes they can turn the tide of a firefight. And some of the moments of tension that can come from almost being killed by one are sweet. No, they're not "game changing", but the maps are mostly better with them than without them.

never played for more than 5 minutes on that dumb shanghai map without the game just taking a massive shit. It's the same for a lot of people I know, too.

I like the part where the game crashes before you get out the main menu so you never actually see the building crashing. It's a something of the year, alright.

If they weren't scripted it would be much better, but since it's always the same effect and so easy to trigger (I've played only the beta IDK if it changed on the final version) it almost always happens so it loses the wow factor.

i'm pretty disgusted right now... tonight was horrible. corrupted save file 5x, lost all of my single player progress yesterday but it's still a pain to keep re-entering my options and saving to have the game take a shit and corrupt it again.

the game is massively fun when it works but it was clearly rushed. so many weird issues even in the menus... shit just doesn't seem finished

was fucking planting bombs on obliteration like a mofo... so much fun. but then FUCK YOU, disconnected.

I know EA skipped certification but how did it even pass Sony Certification when the game can't even start to the menu?

Fun fact: during 2009 EA laid off the entire cert department during the financial crash. I don't know if they ever rebuilt it. I hope they did, because there was a noticeable drop in quality after the department got laid off, and I generally like the games that EA puts out. That quality check is important.

I kind of hadn't read the forums on BF4 and strolled into it thinking "this gonna be just like BF3 only BETTER". That'll learn me.

My favorite bug so far is on Flood Zone, where my guy just flat out refused to cross an invisible line on the map. Had to feel my way across it until I found a hole. Who knows, maybe the devs are just Stephen King fans.

One of the most obvious "just ship this shit" bugs for me is in Obliteration on a map with water. If someone drops the bomb in water, then it disappears and respawns at a random spot 100 metres in the air. This was reproducable every time and I think present in the beta too.
Sometimes I think it must be horrible working as a game programmer on a project with a fixed release date.

Thank you.

Are some of them less than game-changing? Sure. So what? Companies hype their products and services. Is Budweiser really 'the king of beers'? C'mon now. Consider this a lesson learned in how to manage expectations in the future.

Fus Ro Dah!

It seems you are a victim of their successful hype campaign for BF4.

Anytime you hear about something 'new' from EA DICE, be wary of it. More than likely it's not as good as advertised.

Now, I'm not saying that it's complete garbage and you should avoid EA DICE games. However, they have a reputation of advertising things and not fully delivering on the hype.
thus is true. This happened with bf3. don't know why I thought bf4 would be different. fuck dice

I absolutely agree about the weather!

Think how great Paracel Storm would be if the high winds when the storm rolled in actually affected infantry on land and aircraft in the sky!

That would be interesting, but I would just be happy if the effects occurred at random.

Either you have a chance to join a day or night map or they have it cycle through a partial day cycle (sort of like how Parcel changes half way through) and something similar for weather effects.

Night version of Parcel Storm during the storm would be insane.
