By that same token, are the Mass Effect waifus that much different in nature than, lets say, the Persona 3 and 4 waifus? Another celebrated series on this forum. You could argue that the social aspects of both are equally important to their respective games and that both pander. Is pandering inherently bad? I don't think so, but I can see how some players find it to be poor taste.

It's about Alyx Vance and her weird hero worship of Gordon Freeman. Through out the game she's gushing quite openly about Freeman's heroics. She doesn't have much else to say or do but cherish every living second that she spends with this guy. Everything is "so amazing" when Gordon does it.
