I'm missing just one, I think. It's been a while since I played. I need one legitimate Meloetta and that's it. I started this with Heart Gold and Soul Silver, and got 493 with Celebi. It took hundreds of hours to do, and nobody believed I could do it, but I proved them wrong.

It's so much easier in Gen 4 and 5 despite there being so many more pokémon.

The internet makes all the difference.

In Gen 3 you needed access to Emerald, Leaf Green, Colosseum, XD, and Sapphire I believe to catch them all legitimately...and you'd still need to get the Event Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, and Dexoys from somewhere, though depending on when you bough Colosseum you might have easy access to Jirachi.

With Gen 4 not only did they put in far more older gen pokémon in the game by various means but as long as you could find dedicated people on forums you could get the trades easily enough.

Gen 5 had all this plus it make it a trivial matter to level low level pokémon against high level foes.

I'm very fickle when it come to collecting game. I had 151 on Red and 250/251 on Gold. I don't remember anything since I sold both games long time ago.

However I'm determined to have everything every generation. I know it might sound like crazy, but I collected EVERY pokemon and place them in order of national dex in pokemon boxes. INCLUDING First form and their evolutions. Right now I am trying to get last 4 pokemon then I'm done until 6th generation.

I did it in Emerald and then Pearl. With Emerald it was a bit crazy because I had to combine Pokemon captured in Sapphire and Colosseum, and trade with friends. With Pearl it was much easier. Since I already had a completed National Dex in Gen 3 all I had to do was transfer 'em over. D/P didn't introduce too many new Pokemon so between friends and online trading I finished that dex pretty fast.

I haven't finished the Gen 5 dex mainly because I don't have as much time to play. I'd like to complete it to get that shiny charm in B/W2 though, so maybe I'll spend some time working on it here and there until X/Y come out

For wild Pokémon, you have to fight them. You try to lower their health as far as possible, but you can't lower it to zero. If they faint, they're lost. You increase your chances of catching them depending on what type of Pokéball you use, and inflicting a status condition (such as Sleep/Paralyze/Freeze/etc.) increases the odds of a capture too.

I caught every Pokemon in Gen 3, half from 2 and was starting to work on Gen 1 when my brother fucking deleted my save that I had clocked about 250 hours into. I was only one week away from finally getting a DS and Platinum so I could transfer my collection over to which only made it worse.
