Did Ed Boon just confirm extended support for MKXL?

In the recent Playstation podcast Ed Boon stated that they plan to be very busy with MKXL and Injustice II overlapping in continued support. I think we can be almost positive that we'll be getting new DLC in the future.
We're very busy. Because Mortal Kombat X we've extended its support even further than all the other games. It's actually ...overlapping into our next game, Injustice 2 and I'm trying to tell myself it's a good thing, but it makes for a very busy schedule..

Around 31 minutes in for the direct quote. Listening to the whole interview has a ton of new information as well.

I'm hoping this means we're going to be a seeing a break from the trend with previous NRS titles in which support is dropped shortly after release. Despite the fiasco with them dropping PC support, Mortal Kombat X is my favorite entry into the series next to UMK3. Hoping we see characters like Fujin, Reiko or even Sareena in the future.

Its sad that weve come so far in this industry that devs are releasing dlc for the "complete editions" of their games.

Yeah. The game is excellent and DLC is great but it's bullshit to buy the "complete edition" without it really being complete.

WB seems to want extended long terms support to be a thing going forward for everything.

Such a shame though, I've been a huge MK fan since MK1, and the PC mess they have made have made sure I never touch their games again until demonstrably proven long term support of the platform. If you're on PS4, things seem great

I don't know. I feel like they've gone out of their way to not call XL the complete edition. While it would seem greedy to think they're going to keep releasing the "complete" versions of the games, I'm not sure they ever implied that "this is it". I admit it meant that in the last games for sure, but they were called complete editions. (Though I also admit the name "XL" simply could have been a low hanging fruit for a puny name.)

I wish they would have extended support for MK9. MK9 had the classic stages and more classic characters and 2 v 2 tag mode. I'd pay $60 for a tag mode dlc for MKX. That's the main thing I miss. Being able to play Alien and Predator vs two other characters would be so awesome I miss playing 2 v 2 with my friends.

It's an informed assumption, like calling a game GOTY. It's pretty much always a different name for the complete edition.
Not to mention that they've been working on Injustice 2. You'd figure they'd move on from MKX at that point.
They kind of threw a swerve here.

Let's be honest. We all know a lot of the characters from the story mode have full move sets. Fans using the PC version had to use hacks to unlock them, but they are there. People then got upset about why they were not playable. I'm sure they had intended to charge fans to unlock them somehow, ala Soul Calibur 4 Darth Vader/Yoda, and then decided against it. I'm sure they are hoping for enough time to pass to release a story mode expansion that also now allows these characters to be playable.

The irony is that the MKX mobile game is 3v3. There isn't a 1v1 mode at all.
3v3 would be pretty cool on the console version. Since they're apparently working on MKX still, maybe they can add it.

Really? I will have to check out the mobile version. Yeah, I wish they just added it, even if it's garbage. In MK9 they had tag attacks and I don't need those, just let me play with 3 friends and be able to switch someone else in whenever I want. It was SO much fun! I can't see how it wasn't popular. It was the most fun I've ever had with a fighting game to date.

Nah. Unlike the playable characters, Baraka, Sindel, and Rain use untouched MK9 animations, and they're missing variations and Fatalities. Tanya was given a completely new move set when she made the jump from story mode to DLC.

And I totally get that, sure. But it seems like they are trying to make just make money on reselling the complete edition to new players. If I already had the game, all I needed was KP2, which was $20 (as opposed to the first KP which was $30) Everything else was free for everyone, like the netcode update and new stage, the Pit. So you're not out anything at all really.

Mortal Kombat Magnum XL with extended support.
except on PC

WB has already hinted at this, and Mortal Kombat is still making bank, so I wouldn't be surprised to see another kombat pack for the game. I would love to see more MK characters added instead of so many guest characters.

He's probably busy working on the PC version

ayy lmao

Hopefully no more guest characters. I'm ok with guest characters, but not if it comes at the expense of a mortal kombat character. I still want noob in the game.

Overlapping with Injustice 2 he says?

Maybe they're gonna add a DC character to balance Scorpion's cameo?

Also, they need to up-port Freddy to X, it will be forever incomplete if they don't.

Alternatively, they should make the kombatants that only appeared in cut scenes playable.

Where does it say "Conplete Eddition" on the box I must of missed it!

Just because you assumed it is, doesn't mean it is.

MK9 had "Complete Eddition"
Inj had "Complete Eddition"
MKX didn't have it

DLC is only shit if you felt you have not got the value of the game, if you felt with MKX you have not you are either lying or delusionally spoiled.

I'm happy the game is getting more support than any other NRS game.

If you feel satisfied with the game at where it is then happy days no need to buy pack 3.

Nobody got screwed like with other DLC games.

So I fail to see the logic of complaining just because you can.

Yeah I can see the argument being "I thought I payed for the final version of the game but I didn't"

That's on you!

No where have they stated this is final

Edit: reading back i may of sounded more dickish than I should as it seems most people here see the logic and are not complaining.

I feel the same way. Personally, I think WB might see this really working in their favor. Make money off re-releases but people who've been playing aren't missing out on anything they're getting with their $60 purchase. Old players can just buy the new content for the additional, reasonable price. I thought $20 for KP2 was more than fair. They also made sure not to charge for anything ridiculous like the netcode fix and new stage.

The game is still selling, so you're always bringing in new people. We know this given the fact that their ESL tournaments have been heavily funded by the community. The money that comes from the Subzero Blue Steel skin goes right into the jackpot for the winner. The lowest of these prizes are $60,000. That's a life changing amount of money for a young gamer. That's really good of them to do that for the fans. Fans who are putting in work for a game they enjoy.

While the practices seem greedy from a business end, they players really are rewarded with this system. It's refreshing and I hope we see more of it.

Does the xl version still require you to run through the awful krypt to unlock things or is everything available from the start like other rerelease editions

True man

Plus it was 75K
I know because I was one of the finalist :P

One away from 5K

In anyway this would mean good chance for S4, ESL is Esports so a huge push for FGs in general.
But that's a different conversation.

yeah man, its so terrible we get extra stuff in our current games instead of having to wait years to see that stuff in some hypothetical sequel

Don't think they ever referred to MKXL as a complete edition. They used the word "ultimate" in its description and said it includes "All additional characters and skin packs", which is true, based on when it released.

Semantics, yes, but they never explicitly said there would be no more content or called it complete like previous titles.

Good. Looks like they're changing they're business model of abruptly abandoning support for fighting games to continuing releasing content till the launch of the next.

So, you guys think that KP3 will be free for all season pass/XL owners or gonna go the way of DC bikes? (though DC Bikes can be bought standalone and KP3 most probably can't be because it's in-game content). It's WB Games we're talking about here after all.

I don't see why it would be. None of the packs were ever framed as season passes.
