It's dated now and there's no reason to go back to it, but for the time it was great. Multiplayer was fantastic and it introduced the proper drift boost system. Track design was mostly good, though later entries would improve on it.
Mk64...it was a dream come true... or wait. As a kid, I never dared to dream such openness to Snes Mario Kart, and one day, BAM, there it was. Oh, dear nostalgia.
My mother would murder you for hearing you utter the words "Mario Kart 64" and "bad" in the same sentence. It was easily the most played N64 game in my house for a good 7 years, and even today we play it quite often. Plus it has some of my favorite tracks in the series (dat chocomountain). It's pretty much the definition of a classic game for me, and I have lots of fond memories about it.
So no. The very act of asking the question is nonsensical to me.
