Definitely, I don't care if it was against Apollo's wishes, Rocky's responsibility as the man in his corner was to throw in the towel.
Even Nate Diaz' corner threw in the towel once.

I hated how Apollo died in Rocky IV. Rocky III was all about how Rocky lost his "Eye of the Tiger" and went into the Clubber fight cocky and with barely any training. Why would Apollo do the exact same thing he taught Rocky NOT to do?
^This right here. Apollo shouldn't have died and fuck that referee.
lol.Apollo was an idiot and an attention whore.
He had a wife, children, and the lunatic wanted nothing more in life than to go out with a bang, to hell with everyone else. And don't try to convince that he didn't know he was going to die, oh he knew in that last round.

That guy was a true friend. Rocky is a dick.
Rocky was supposed to die in every single one of these movies. The possible exception being Rocky 6.lol.
Apollo had a warrior spirit just like Rocky, he just couldn't accept that he was over the hill. He didn't know he was going to die.
Rocky did the same thing in the first film when Mick wanted to stop the fight. He easily could've died in any of these movies too, especially against Drago.
Also, in that training montage, Rocky isn't even sparring with anyone. He's just chopping down trees and stuff.

Yea. Rocky stood there like a dumbass holding the towel in one hand contemplating the universe, while Apollo was getting killed.

ref was enjoying that asswhoopin.
Apollo told Rocky like 5 times at the end of the first round not to throw in the towel.
Rocky picks up the towel and has a deer in headlights moment,
Also, throwing in the towel was no guarantee about anything. The referee was trying to stop the fight for a good 10 seconds before drago threw the finishing blow, throwing in the towel would not have done anything.
Drago was on a mission to knock him down (which resulted in death), and nothing was getting in his way.
if Rocky hadn't let Apollo die we wouldn't have gotten the "No Easy Way Out' montage though

I'm watching Rocky IV or AMC, they're doing a marathon, and Drago is beating the living snot out of Apollo. Like, his life force is leaving his body with every punch. Everyone is yelling at Rocky to throw in the towel, but he's hesitates and lets Apollo get murdered with punches. Then you see Apollo dying in Rocky's arms. I think Rocky should've been held at least partially culpable for letting his friend die like that in an exhibition bout.
Apollo should have gotten that bad look off his face, Drago had to knock it off.
... That's pretty much how it went down though. Rocky had his hand raised with the towel and Apollo was like "NOOOOO!"I remember an interview/commentary from Tony Burton who played Duke that what was not included in the final film was that the reason for Rocky's deer in headlights look was that as he was about to throw the towel the camera was supposed to cut to Apollo as he looks at Rocky with the towel raised and slowly shakes his head (and that he wanted it to be this way) and that causes Rocky to pause as the final and fatal hit lands.
Tony had mentioned being very upset that that part was not included.
It was Apollo's wish. He killed himself.
BTW, that part of the movie felt so fabricated. Apollo was a very young and healthy man, and he was loaded. All he had to do was enjoy life. No reason to get so worked up about some Russian coming over to America, to say nothing about fighting to the death with the Russian machine. They needed a reason for Rocky to be angry and that's the best they could find. Kinda stupid if you ask me.
Yeah, but at the same time he knew that Apollo would never have forgiven him if he had. I assumed that was his reasoning for not throwing in the towel
