Did Rocky kill Apollo Creed?

I hated how Apollo died in Rocky IV. Rocky III was all about how Rocky lost his "Eye of the Tiger" and went into the Clubber fight cocky and with barely any training. Why would Apollo do the exact same thing he taught Rocky NOT to do?

It was an exhibition match.

^This right here. Apollo shouldn't have died and fuck that referee.

The ref from Rocky IV went on to star in such hits as:

Apollo was an idiot and an attention whore.

He had a wife, children, and the lunatic wanted nothing more in life than to go out with a bang, to hell with everyone else. And don't try to convince that he didn't know he was going to die, oh he knew in that last round.
lol.

Apollo had a warrior spirit just like Rocky, he just couldn't accept that he was over the hill. He didn't know he was going to die.

Rocky did the same thing in the first film when Mick wanted to stop the fight. He easily could've died in any of these movies too, especially against Drago.

Rocky lost the love of his life because he hesitated. Guilt is what drove him for the rest of the movie, not revenge.

He indirectly killed Mickey too.

Rocky was supposed to die in every single one of these movies. The possible exception being Rocky 6.

Apollo told Rocky like 5 times at the end of the first round not to throw in the towel.

Rocky picks up the towel and has a deer in headlights moment,

Also, throwing in the towel was no guarantee about anything. The referee was trying to stop the fight for a good 10 seconds before drago threw the finishing blow, throwing in the towel would not have done anything.

Drago was on a mission to knock him down (which resulted in death), and nothing was getting in his way.

I remember an interview/commentary from Tony Burton who played Duke that what was not included in the final film was that the reason for Rocky's deer in headlights look was that as he was about to throw the towel the camera was supposed to cut to Apollo as he looks at Rocky with the towel raised and slowly shakes his head (and that he wanted it to be this way) and that causes Rocky to pause as the final and fatal hit lands.

Tony had mentioned being very upset that that part was not included.

I'm watching Rocky IV or AMC, they're doing a marathon, and Drago is beating the living snot out of Apollo. Like, his life force is leaving his body with every punch. Everyone is yelling at Rocky to throw in the towel, but he's hesitates and lets Apollo get murdered with punches. Then you see Apollo dying in Rocky's arms. I think Rocky should've been held at least partially culpable for letting his friend die like that in an exhibition bout.

No, but Rocky is absolutely the shittiest of shit cornermen.

... That's pretty much how it went down though. Rocky had his hand raised with the towel and Apollo was like "NOOOOO!"

It was Apollo's wish. He killed himself.

BTW, that part of the movie felt so fabricated. Apollo was a very young and healthy man, and he was loaded. All he had to do was enjoy life. No reason to get so worked up about some Russian coming over to America, to say nothing about fighting to the death with the Russian machine. They needed a reason for Rocky to be angry and that's the best they could find. Kinda stupid if you ask me.

Yeah, but at the same time he knew that Apollo would never have forgiven him if he had. I assumed that was his reasoning for not throwing in the towel

How's that fabricated considering that in various sports there have been plenty to retire and comeback, albeit not as great as they were.

Yeah, probably. But if Apollo had lived Rocky wouldn't have been able to win the Cold War single-handedly.

Also, was Paulie banging that robot?

So what. At least Apollo would've went back home to his wife and kids. His life or their friendship......I'm going with his life.

Any one of those shots to the head would have knocked the living fuck out of him but he somehow stood up and absorbed 10 tons of force before going down.

'You will lose.'

Drago warned him at the start. Apollo shoulda thrown in the towel then and there. You saw Drago kill that fucking robot? I ain't fighting that man.

Blasphemous at the thought of rocky being guilty lol Apollo had a death wish he knew very well what he was getting into. Sort of like vegeta vs perfect cell.

That bromance from Rocky 3 remains GOAT

I feel bad for Apollo. First, Rocky comes out of nowhere and steals his spotlight. Then Apollo gives Rocky another shot. Rocky doesn't even fight fair, he shows up boxing right handed. Rocky beats Apollo, then doesn't even give the courtesy of a rematch.

Apollo retires in shame, but still goes out of his way to help Rocky get the eye of the tiger back. What does Rocky do? Barely beats him in a race on the beach, yet throws the hugest one person rave in slo mo. Apollo asks for just one favor, a rematch and Rocky doesn't even give him a title shot.

Then he doesn't throw in the towel, despite seeing his best friend being pummeled into roast beef.

Rocky is a dick.
