Did Sony release TLoU right after E3 on purpose?

I guess my problem is more cupboard space than money.
I aslo believe that they are going to port it, as they already said that they had the engine up and running. So Sony would be crazy not to improve the release roster by also including this game.

Well, I suppose its possible. Porting isn't always quick-n-easy, but Sony may decide its worth the effort. I'm not sure they'd waste Naughty Dog themselves on the porting effort though, unless its already well underway. They're going to want to use them to get a PS4 game up and running as soon as possible.

I think it's coincidence but I do think that part of the reason they were able to gain so much momentum coming out of E3 was because TLoU reminded people that they have some amazing studios that put out superb games. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't announce much new from their first party studios but TLoU was basically a reminder not to worry, the games and the quality will be there.

It solidified the opinion that Sony has made huge strives to improve its first-party offerings, whereas Microsoft's previously strong position with exclusive software has diminished greatly. I'm struggling to think of a first party Microsoft game in the past 18 months, if not longer, that has competed with Sony's offerings.

TLoU is incredibly polished.

Game was amazing but I can't agree with this sentence, the number of bugs that got through qa is imense. The best one is getting stuck within cover, that ones great if the game hasn't saved in awhile.

Sony didn't pull any sort of clever maneuver here; Naughty Dog did

ND created Uncharted — specifically UC2 — in order to reach as wide a gaming audience as possible. Once that series launched them into true stardom for the gen and let them get used to the this gen's tech, they worked on the game they truly wanted to make: The Last of US.
I think they even said this themselves. Basically wanted to do TloU first but Sony wanted something to compete with against Gears

I think it was just smart move

Sony got to give one extra marketing push w/o paying for it through their E3 press conference

Hey guys our game is being touted great by reviewers, why not give it a try, it comes out this Friday!

They might have caught some stragglers/on the fence

No, I very much doubt that TLOU's release schedule had anything to do with the PS4 marketing schedule. A target date, even a revised one, is usually decided far in advance of what sort of message you go with at E3

It was good timing. Paved the way for Sony's other exclusives for PS3 and shows the level of what's too come on the PS4 (From Naughty Dogs at least).

Still don't get the Uncharted 3 hate, it was awesome.

Uncharted 1 to 2 was an Evolution, it became the the Gold Standard

Uncharted 2 to 3, was Side-Progression, it never over took 2, it just progressed on 2 ideas/style, very hard to dethrone

Also some fatigue due to done this before, seen that before mentality

Not a bad game, but when you can't outclass the sequel, it won't be regarded with jubilation in turn it looks like hate

No, it's nice timing though, I thought it'd hurt it because everyone would be fully on the next-gen hype train, but in reality I think they just happened to get out their best game of the generation when the world cares most about games.

I'll gladly skip it if it's by the B team who threw together Uncharted 3.

Uncharted 2 and The Last of Us are two of the greatest games of this generation, though.

Uncharted 3 with 92 metacritic was their B team? Wow I've gotta play more Naughty Dog games. They've sure come a long way since that marsupial mascot game.

This.

I'm sure a lot of devs will like it if thier main team can make games like Uncharted 3.

Uncharted 2/Last of Us team is the game of the generation tier team

Uncharted 3 team is just the really great experience team,

im personally afraid that tlou 2 will be made by the b team

None of the games shown for PS4 are good enough to make me buy one yet.
But if a Naughty Dog game is announced, I'll bang the gavel.

I think it was mistake to launch it so close to e3. they should have either pushed it back further or move it up. I say this because after seeing the next gen stuff this game just doesn't wow me. while dripping with atmosphere the game outside of cut scenes looks muddy to me.

You don't think Uncharted 3's slight dip in wow factor was in any way tied to them making the third entry in the series within the same generation?

The concept was done about as soundly as could be expected with Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3's biggest problems stem from trying to one up 2 without making an entirely different game, not really possible. Uncharted 2 was like the first game with everything turned up to 11 (intentional Spinal Tap reference) but you can't go past 11. 11 is the top. So once you've hit 11 what else do you do?

I think if they give Amy Hennig the chance to write an entirely new IP or to work in a world like The Last of Us without being tied to pre-existing characters she'll blow us out of the water.

And people still buy it because it's the best they can get now and is amazingly good. All that does is drive home how much we need next gen systems, when Sony's launching a next gen system in a few months.

Sounds like a win/win to me.

if people only played games for the graphics, than crysis would sell more copies than call of duty.

it's the narrative and the characters, and just this world that naughty dog has handcrafted that makes this game worth experiencing.

not because of something as arbitrary as graphics.

These anti Uncharted 3 posts are always hilarious. Some change to the aiming code made all the day 1 buyers angry. If you picked it up a month or so after it came out, you got a game every bit as good as Uncharted 2. It's an awesome, incredible game.

No, it's really not. I don't wanna shit up this thread with Uncharted 3 talk but the plot, pacing, and encounter design of Uncharted 3 can't hold a candle to that of Uncharted 2.

They released it just before hype for GTA5 goes into complete overdrive, they pretty much had to, as that game will swallow anything in its path.

After GTA there are new consoles with Call of Duty and Battlefield/FIFA, so they maximized this time of no big games.

I'll give you two out of three, but it's comparing a great game to one of the greatest games.

Sorry you feel that way, I disagree completely. The games to me are both within 5% of each other. Loved em both and all 3 games are now dirt cheap.

I should thank guys like you! You're the kind of people who made me expect a POS game, a nice pleasant surprise is what I got.

The plot of Uncharted 3 was pretty sh*t to be honest but the game as a whole still craps over pretty much everything else out there. I love Uncharted more than most games but, to be honest, the whole treasure hunter/ancient this ancient that is starting to get a bit old. But my god is it a glorious third-person shooter.

The best parts of the story were actually the bits that gave insight into Drake's fucked up upbringing and his complex relationships with Elena and Sully. The more human stuff is interesting but all that Tomb Raider knock off stuff is old now.

I don't know about the timing of TLoU specifically, but I think Sony's big studios are releasing on current gen mostly because of the install base - I think Sony really needs the money from these games and hence needs them to sell on a larger group of customers than the PS4 launch would provide.

Polyphony - Greatness awaits

Naughty Dog - Greatness awaits

On purpose definitely, but I think the purpose was to reignite PS3 fire after PS4 announcement. They are doing a really awesome job juicing that coat shrunk hardware with Last of Us, Beyond and GT6 all on the horizon.

I'm not sure, but I can say this:

The Last of Us is an amazing, phenomenal game.

Naughty Dog managed to top their own game (Uncharted 2) and make this my favorite, not just this generation, but of all time.

Can't wait to see what's next ND.

I think they delayed it to polish it up then released it on the Friday after E3 rather than the Tuesday during cos people were busy watching it

I don't think there was some grand scheme behind it or anything

There are some pretty tragic bugs:

Like the part with the sniper rifle - the humvee just bugged out on mine and wouldn't move forward anymore and eventually just stopped firing. Needed a reload to fix it
.

I literally had to reload the campus level about 15 times before i managed to get through it without the geometry messing up and fucking my save

Well either way it worked for me. TLOU is one of the best games I've had the pleasure of playing this generation.

yeah, I honestly don't understand the raging hatred regarding Uncharted 3.
I thought it was a wonderful, entertaining game.

I think the series (or even a new IP) is in good hands with this so called 'B team'.

No... I don't think so. I actually didn't play it until after that patch landed. It still just didn't feel right. My aiming sucked and my accuracy was shit throughout the entire game. I even went back to play Uncharted 2 (which I have Platinum'd) and I could immediately tell the difference.

They missed a few spots.

Not enough to call them out on it, I think. It's probably the most visually consistent game I've played on a console this generation.

The only issues I really encountered were obvious glitches in the lighting when moving between areas. That and the drops in framerate in some areas. Still extremely impressive that this was accomplished on the PS3 hardware.
