Did you enjoy Emmerichs Godzilla?

Lol at people trying to put down Godzilla 2014 to make it anywhere even close to Zilla. 2014 at least had good scenes and cinematography.

Most importantly it had Godzilla. The real deal. Zilla getting killed by fucking conventional weapons is an embarrassment, and I can't believe anyone thought that was a good idea.

It was bad, but it was a big part of my childhood (got a lot of the toys for Xmas 98 including the big ass Ultimate Godzilla) and I'm some level I still enjoy it. It was very bad though.

But on the other hand, the animated series based off of it is literally better than half of the Godzilla movies out there.

The animated series was way better. The baby godzilla from the end of the movie imprints on broderick, and they travel the world battling other kaiju threats.

I was a little kid and it had the Godzilla name attached to it, so I liked it when I first saw it. I can't get through it now, though.

The animated series was so much better.

It was really dumb, and, at the time, a huge disappointment considering all the hype and build up (I still remember that teaser that fired shots at Jurassic Park), but to be honest I'd still rather rewatch it than Godzilla 2014 any day. At least Matthew Broderick has a personality, which is more than I can say about that poor man's Taylor Kitsche that took up most of the 2014 film's screen time.

The only thing I liked that spawned from it was the TV show.

The movie itself was a corny and generic big monster action film that was not true to the character. I saw it when I was kid and I don't think I'll ever watch it again.

I was a kid and didn't go to the cinema too often so it definitely made an impression, I mean I still remember many things about it and I've seen it like three times in all my life. I liked it, since I barely knew what Godzilla was.

Today I recognize it's not a good movie at all but like with Independence Day, nostalgia plays a big part when it comes to mind so I just can't hate on it.

That's a lot of fish.

I found it entertaining enough if only for the actors in it. But it really wasn't a Godzilla film at all. It wanted to be so badly, but it was more of a Lost World: Jurassic Park clone.

I loved the teaser. The one that isnt in the movie. Loved that shit. I think they released it like one year before the movie was released. Felt crazy watching it on a theater.

The movie was garbage though.

Eh, I remember being really excited for it as a kid. I loved watching the old Godzilla movies when they'd show up on TBS during the summer. Plus, it was from the director of Independence Day, my favorite movie? I was sold. Needless to say, it didn't live up to expectations, even then. I liked the buildup they had for it, with Nick globetrotting while tracking it down. The footprint and seeing the boat carved up were great moments. Even the initial reveal and attack was amazing. But turning Godzilla into a generic lizard that just wanted to lay eggs and then to turn it into a bumbling action comedy trying to rip off the popularity of Jurassic Park with the whole Madison Square Garden sequence was terrible. From then on, it just got even worse.

I've rewatched it a few times over the years and own it on blu-ray, but it pales in comparison to most Godzilla movies. That being said, I think it's better than many Toho Godzilla films. I'm looking at you, Son of Godzilla, All Monsters Attack and Godzilla vs. Megaguirus.

I liked it at the time but I was also 11 years old.

I watched it again much later and realized how absolutely fucking awful it is.

That said I don't hate the design like some people do. I of course prefer traditional Zilla but the dinosaur style looked cool and was pretty menacing

I was obsessed with it as a kid, haven't seen it since and would like it to remain that way. Although I will always respect the film for getting me into Godzilla.

Nope. Terrible movie, even by Godzilla movie standards. No reason to slap the name on it in the first place outside of brand name recognition. I think my favorite scene is where the giant iguana chases a guy flying a helicopter through the streets of New York City, who apparently doesn't know helicopters can ascend.

I can't stand American Godzilla movies period because the character is supposed to represent the atomic bombs that the US dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It's a series that just shouldn't be whitewashed.

The best thing about that movie were the taco bell promotional commercials.

Here lizard lizard lizard!

i enjoyed the movie for what it was. i remember Gene Shalit going crazy over the movie saying that there would surely be many, many sequels lol The ending kind of pissed me off because the egg that survived didnt have a bomb attached to it. i thought it would be fitting that the one egg that made it would have perished if they had actually succeeded in detonating the bombs.

Yes, if only because I was young and I was given one of my favorite toys to play with:

Shit was well made, and shot missiles and a big ol' net.

So good for imaginative play in the backyard.

Even at age 7 I knew that movie sucked. I haven't watched it since, but I can only imagine my opinion would be even lower now then it was back then.

Gino had a good design, just not a good design for Godzilla... maybe for something else. I'd love it if there were a crossover movie where Gino fights Edwards' Godzilla or Shin Godzilla.

I can't recall much about the film. I only remember a helicopter chase with Gino, and velociraptor like zilla babies in a sewer nest and the babies ice skating... or was that a Robot Chicken skit?

I was confused as hell when I was kid because the '98 Godzilla didn't look anything like my Godzilla toy, had one that looked like this:

Also he wasn't fighting any monsters, how can you make a godzilla movie and not have him fighting any monsters! Hank Azaria was the only decent part of that movie too.

Yeah I loved that movie as a kid. As I've gotten older I know now it's actually not really good at all but it's sits as a guilty pleasure of mine.

I mean, that representation seem like it was pushed to the wayside in favor of fighting monsters and sliding tail kicks a long time ago. How many people know Godzilla as the unstoppable force of destruction, nuclear death on two legs, versus the man-in-suit fighting monsters because it's cool and fun?

Case in point:

Maybe 60 years ago. Godzilla turned into a big monster fighting other big monsters immediately after the first movie.
