Did you ever think Lulu's (FFX) design was cool?

Thought it was great back then and still think it's great...

Tidus (in particular) and Wakka are the two among the main characters that have terrible designs in FF10.

This made me think about the chain slide scene. She had to be carried by Kimarhi. XD

I didn't have a problem with it. But it was weird that she was the only that dressed like that in the whole world until Paine came around.

oh yeah, i liked it a lot.

I remember thinking she was insanely hot back when the game came out. I was a young teen at that time, so I was right in the midst of my boob-worshiping phase, which would explain things.

Years later I discovered she had cornrows all along, and now I can't look at her the same way again.

The teenage me thought Lulu was way cool and was fond of those titties. Not much has changed since then. I'm just kidding!
lol no I'm not

You know what's weird? I never noticed that her dress was made of belts until seeing it pointed out on GAF. I guess my eyes never strayed that far down. :/

Why the cleavage tho?

I can understand why people can take or leave the fanservice. To me, FF is a silly enough series that it doesn't feel outhat of place.

I think the highest let down is she got replaced in X-2. I think it'd been completed to let her cut loose a little.

The fanservice, if you want to call it that, is pretty harmless compared to many other (recent/upcoming) JRPGs though.

Star Ocean 5, Nier Automata, Valkyria: Azure Revolution:

Even the more mainstream FF15 is a lot more "in your face" imo (she's only got one belt though!).

FFX is a game where everyone can breath underwater, big blue furry men walk around everywhere and there is something called a Shoopuff.

And yet people complain that clothing doesn't look like it'd be practical?

I think what matters most is context. Having sexy looking/outfitted characters can work as long as it doesn't clash with the tone/themes. I think those things you show, while definitely cheesecake, aren't egregiously out of line in the context of their games. Someone like Silent though, who is supposed to exist as a super serious character and yet design wise is inappropriately fetishized, clashes with the thematically she's supposed to represent.

As for Cidney/Cindy, I think she looks just 'okay'; I'm withholding judgement until I can see if she gets any character development or just remains eye candy.

It's subjective of course, to each his own.

Personally though, now that I have thought about it, I have to say that I like Lulu's design a lot better than all of the aforementioned (and it also fits quite well within its world). And I'm not even a big fan of Lulu. It just seems that character design in many japanese games devloped in a direction I don't like as much anymore. Wish I were as lucky to feel otherwise.

One of the few games I can think of where the exaggerated sexy outfits aren't distracting, but even integral is Bayonetta where everything is built around that; it's fitting and it doesn't stick out.

I don't get Lulu's design. Not just the belts, the whole outfit makes no sense to me. The majority of the game takes place in this tropical paradise which is almost certainly super hot if it's anything like our tropics and here's Lulu decked out in this super heavy outfit that's all black and leather and fur. She must be trying to kill herself or something because I see no other logical reason for her to wear something like that in that setting, especially when no one else wears anything like it.

I like it, but it is definitely belting. You have to wonder what a complete and utter ballache it must be putting it on.

The weirdest part of it is how it doesn't fit in at all in Besaid, fashion-wise. Wakka's outfit 100% fits in with the people we see in Besaid, but Lulu sticks out like a sore thumb.

Edit - actually, it doesn't really fit in anywhere in that world, unlike the clothes of every other character.

The only one I like of these women you posted is the Nier design.

The others seem so damn lame. Huge breasts, some lacey lingerie design with God knows what is going on with that massive green hair, and a girl with hot pants jean shorts who looks like a stripper.

Compared to Lulu or Yuna or Nier's costume.... ugh. Makes me sad for JRPGs today :(

We're a long way from designs like Garnet or Yuna. I know there was Rikku but lol... I didn't like her design either. Yuna was always the GOAT designed female PC to me.

I love how the animators never showed Lulu really running or jumping. They had to hide the animation by only showing her from the waist up.

Nippleless? Then how does her dress not fall off her boobs? I'd say quite the opposite.

The original ps2 in game model of her has these ridonkulous sphereoids of breasts with the dress somehow attached so low on the breasts, that any anatomy major would inform you there should at least be a good half of an areola there, even if she has some low positioned nips.

She probably had her nipples surgically moved to lower on her sphereoids in order to get that 'POP'.
