No. But I'm happy for everyone that did and I'm not bitter at all about it

If this sucker didn't get one, I guess I'm not getting a "free" one either.

Why are people so hyped about that controller ?
No impulse triggers, no hair trigger, standard D pad, standard ABXY. Only thing it has is TMR joysticks and gyro.
It's only useful if you plan on using the trackpads and are full couch player, if not, then there are other, much better, alternatives out there for the same price.
Don't understand all the fuss about it.

I was at checkout but decided that I don't need another controller when I'm rocking several flagship 8bitdo controllers and a Apex 5 from flydigi.

Woke up at 3am Australian time due to having a nightmare and needing to go to the toilet, checked the time, quickly refreshed the Steam controller page, added to cart and proceeded to payment but was getting errors.
I came into gaf to see if anyone else was having issues which a lot were. I asked Gaben for help and after trying again it worked.
It was meant to be.
After all that, it's still in stock in the Australian steam store though. (7am).

To expound on what OverHeat OverHeat said:

"From the beginning, these were all different products," Cardinali said. "We had always thought, obviously we want them to work together well — especially the Steam Machine and the Steam Controller, they're in a lot of ways a pair made in heaven — but we saw no need to ship the Controller at the same time as the Machine. The really only hard deadline is we didn't want to ship the Steam Machine before the Steam Controller. We want to have that out for the Steam Machine… It wasn't really ever the plan to ship them together unless it landed nicely that way. So there's no point in holding it back while we work through the other stuff."

That's a quote from Steve Cardinali, a Valve hardware engineer when discussing the Steam Controller, Steam Frame, and Steam Machine. These are compatible but completely separate products.
There is no way it doesn't ship with a controller or have the option to add a controller.

I really don't see the need for one as I have plenty of controllers of all kinds (cheap, expensive) and can't see this being much better.

I'll get the one bundled with the machine whenever that releases.

This is all true, but it's got a few things I want:
  • Gyro support via Steam Input natively.
  • High quality Dualsense-like rumble.
  • Software and updates from a reputable and highly motivated company.
  • Long-ass battery life and great build quality
Are these things worth $99? Maybe. I would say 100% if the polling rate was higher, that's the only real downside to the controller. 500hz plus is kind of expected at this price.

Got one at 2 minutes to 6pm (UK Launch time). Had pre-empted the usual purchase issues, so had already added the money to my Steam wallet. Went through straight away no hassles at all. I've said before, and I'll say again, you really need to add the funds to your Steam wallet a few days prior to reduce potential issues/delays upon release. Hope everyone who wants one gets one eventually!

The trackpads are the difference between a huge portion of your pc library (or desktop navigation) being fully functional with a controller or not. That's the killer feature. I think it's maybe hard to understand the full value of that unless you've played an RTS or an mmo on the steam deck.

I was eventually able to put one on order but it was a ridiculous process of trying to click submit for 10 minutes straight until it eventually advanced to checkout.

Yep. Got one for me and one for my brother. Already setting up the TV in my room with the Steam Deck+Dock so I can play some PC games while in the bed with it. Going to hardwire it (ethernet to the dock) so I can stream games from my PC flawlessly as well.

That's exactly why I want it. I just got a GameSir G7 Pro and it's way too much. Nobody wants to hear the intricate prog-rock high-hat work you create just trying to play a game since every input on the controller in a mouse click. It's really not that serious. I just need some buttons.

Well fuck me then…

This ruins everything.

And I get battery life out the ass because of it. Fuck yeah!

Doubtful. My post above shows the anti-scalper functionality they have in place. A bit too restrictive really. It should just prevent multiple purchases rather than multiple "attempts" to purchase..

TMR, gyro, back buttons, trackpads, great battery life and haptics. And folks just like Steam products.
