Different game series set in the same universe...that arent Mario

Catherine and Persona. Unless it was a teaser/cameo without any meaning.

I thought of that, but they're not. For one, Catherine isn't really a "series", but the director straight up said that the cameo in P3P was a Vincent "look-alike" (lame excuse), presumably to imply that the games are not part of the same universe.

That depends on what you consider to be Ivalice. Final Fantasy Tactics makes it seem like Ivalice is just one kingdom in the world, but Final Fantasy XII calls the whole world Ivalice. If you call the whole world Ivalice, then Vagrant Story does take place in Ivalice. Vagrant Story takes place in Valendia, which is mentioned in Final Fantasy XII.

When FFXII was in development, Square Enix explicitly stated that Vagrant Story is set in the world of Ivalice. But that was a retcon. Yasumi Matsuno stated on his Twitter that he did not conceive Vagrant Story as being set in the world of Ivalice. He further explained that his view differs from Square Enix's.

But... aren't those are games of the same series?

Technically yes, but games of that series are generally not set in the same universe.

Also alot of people dont know but:

Van_Helsing_Coverart.png

same universe as

250px-Castlevania_-_Lament_of_Innocense_(Gamecover).jpg

In Van Helsing
there is a library you can go to and read all about the history of the belmont clan and their success in vanquishing dracula

There are a ton more references between the two, Kleiner mentions Aperture by name and in Portal 1 there are slideshows talking about Black Mesa

In Portal 2, Cave Johnson also complains about Black Mesa in one of his recorded messages.

It was.

Don't look too deep into it. In Persona 4, the protagonist has a Persona 3 calendar. But later, he meets characters from Persona 3. So...

Ah, I see. Thanks for clearing that up.

I can't really think of any examples from most of the games I play then. All I can think of are from VNs like Type Moon's stuff (which was already mentioned) and maybe 5pb's Science Adventure games.

Might aswell cite FFVII and FFT then.

The metriod , mario, kirby connection has been made more than once.

Also the mario characters played basket ball with the characters from final fantasy one and played a monoply type game with dragon quest guys.

I thought every game was in the same universe as Mario

What happened to that post?

- Crash and Spyro, but probably not any more than their successors Jak & Daxter/Ratchet & Clank.
- What's that one site that tells the crazy story about how Dig Dug, Drill Dozer (oh wait, meant Mr. Driller, right?), Ace Combat and like 15 other Namco games are all in the same universe?

Same universe for most incarnations.

Classic Mega Man > MMX > MM Zero > MM ZX > MM Legends.

Battle Network happens in another Universe, and Star Force is on BN's future.

I wish the BN universe hadn't gone to shit, I really like the having parallel universes where one focused on digital technogical advancement and the other on the phyiscal.

Wait, how are FF7 and FFX in the same universe?

In FFX-2 you meet a guy called Shin-Ra, who's trying to research a way to use the souls of the Farplane as an energy source.

A couple thousand years later, his descendants are doing just that with the Shin-Ra company (in another planet).

Wow, I just looked this up. Apparently the connection is indeed official and kind of mind blowing!

Wait, how are FF7 and FFX in the same universe?

Multiple Ultimania Guides (including a couple of developer interviews) confirm it. Basically after FFX-2, Rin funds the efforts of the character named Shinra to refine energy from the Farplane using Vegnagun's remains. They failed, but a thousand years later when space travel is developed, Shinra's descendants travels to the Planet of FFVII and eventually the Shinra Electric Power Company is founded.

According to the Ulmania Guides, the connection was first envisioned during FFX's development. They really pushed it after X-2's release though, with additions in the Compilation of FFVII like Cid digging an ancient airship that looks Spiran, Yazoo dissolving into Pyreflies and Bahamut SIN looking like Spira's Bahamut.

It makes no fucking sense. What happened to space travel in FFVII universe? They almost can not put a rocket in orbit.

It's just an internal joke, like in FFIX when yitan mentions cloud after seening the big sword in the shop in Alexandria.

If I recall correctly, Dino Crisis and Ace Attorney are hinted to take place in the same universe: Both series reference a fictional country called Borginia.

Fantasy Zone and Space Harrier is another one. The bad ending of one of the Fantasy Zone games (Can't remember which) has Opa-Opa turning evil, and the Space Harrier dude preparing to fight him, IIRC.

Oh wow, I think I remember that. Didn't it have to do with some universal space federation or something crazy like that?

Ace Combat 3 / Galaga prequels to Dig-Dug

Was scrounging around on Namco twitter and came across this. :

http://ugsf-series.com/#galaga88 (In Japanese)

Apparently as part of the Galaga 30th anniversary Namco has reveled what we knew all along: Mr.Diller / Dig-Dug the good folks from Ace Combat 3 and close to 30 other Namco space games are all actually in the same timeline and apart of the organization "United Galactic space force" Those master planners.

Yes that's right visit the site and learn the wonders that in 2399:

A young boy with the code name of Mr.Driller sets out to solve the mystery of the large appearance of blocks that occurred on a planet in the united galactic space federation.

Or that in 2382

On a certain planet Hori Taizo(Dig-Dug)sets out to solve the problem of a large out surge of monsters

But wait that's not all!

2659

Star Blade Blue Planet:

The last stage of the war. The final remnants of the UMIS reform launch an attack on Earth. Operation Blue planet begins! With the launch of the attacks code named as "megamouth" and "commander" the defensive operation is completed. Although the invaders were repealed, over 97% of the USGF is lost. Almost all of the ships constructed during the 2nd D plan were destroyed.

All this amazing timeline info and more can be yours with either Japanese skills or to make it even more incomprehensible: your friendly google translator

BUT WAIT! THERE"S MORE! That's right!

This is not the end, it's only the beginning of the joy, The official twitter tells us the wondrous news that future updates and announcements are planned!

My Goodness! Prepare for the sheer delight of an ace combat 3, cybersled, cyber command, burning force, galaxian 3, the rising of gourb, galaxian, galaga, gapius, galaxa 88, blast off, Final Blaster, Bounty Hounds, Attack of the Zolgear , Starblade, Dig Dug, Dig Dug 2, Baraduke2, Mr.Driller, Star Trigon, Star Ruster, Star Xiom, Star Blade the blue planet, New Space Order, Thunder Captor 1 and 2

Cross over hopefully coming to a tv screen or portable device near me soon.

Like Final Fantasy, Tales games are all separate stories (minus direct sequels like Destiny 2 and Symphonia 2), but Tales of Symphonia is actually the prequel of Tales of Phantasia, both in the same universe.

Also, for some odd reason, I seem to remember reading that 1080° is in the same universe as Wave Race. Don't remember 100% though.

Street Fighter and Final Fight.

Don't forget Saturday Night Slam Masters, which depicts Haggar's wrestling career before he became Mayor of Metro City.

Also the entire Marvel universe, Tatsunoko universe, SNK universe and all Capcom games are connected too :P Sort of kidding about that one.

No , it has been confirmed to be a connection.

Are you angry that an FF game has a overly convoluted story. Seriously?

Like many others in here, just a reference. Shu Takumi wrote DC1 and DC2 and created/wrote the Ace Attorney games.

Also, Snatcher, Metal Gear (Metal Gear Solid) and Policenauts are all in kind of the same universe. Lots of different character crossovers and references to each other.

Also Wario and starfy

Also wario and mr game and watch, Mr, Game and watch is actually in a lot of wario games actually.

Both Wave Race: Blue Storm and 1080 Avalanche had the same characters in it.

Personally I consider it canon.... but at the same time, who gives that much of a shit about canon? It's still a kind of jokey connection, and not meant to be thought about for more than a few seconds.
