Digital Board Games Thread: Async Multiplatform Meeples

I find it hard to believe they will do a digital version of a just announced card game...so I would rule out both Firefly and Big trouble in Little China.

I really hope they will announce it properly anyway.
PLEASE BE ALIEN, PLEASE BE ALIEN, PLEASE BE ALIEN

looking around board game geek the following has been posted.

no clue if it is legit, but digital or physical I would preorder the crap out of that if real.

likely a fake though since it seems like someone made a mock up box and that is the image they chose anyways.

Anyone knows if Race of Nations on Android is legit?

I remember reading somewhere that it actually rip off Civilization. I'm having an ethical question with myself whether I should buy an in-app for it or not.

It's a clone of Through the Ages (a Civ-style game). It's good game, but yeah, seems ethically murky to give a ripoff some money. You can play the real game for free on BoardGameArena (and it's officially licensed).

Now that's universal, I tried the free version of Sentinel of the Multiverse.
I never considered the game because I hate superheroes, but I must confess I really like the gameplay and the fixed deck mechanic without resources.

Are there any similar mechanic games on iOS before I buy this one?

EDIT: bought anyway.

Agricola creatures great and small got released on ios at least.

Seems well put together from a brief play. It is pretty obviously built on top of what they put together for patchwork, which isn't a bad thing.

some game called Faeria is free on steam for a limited time.
faeria combines the core values of Strategy Card Games together with a Living Board, giving you the ability to shape the board as you play to create mind-blowing strategies. Each game of Faeria is not only unique, beautiful and fast-paced but also highly competitive with upcoming features such as an observer mode and integrated tournaments.

aka I am not sure what it is but seems to be a board game so figured i would share here

I've played it a good bit and it's pretty solid. The developers seem passionate about the project (the patch notes are long and extremely detailed), and it's been steadily improving since I've started playing.

It's a card game like Hearthstone but with a hex-divided play area you deploy your cards too, so there's an area control element. I definitely recommend it, especially for free.

It is going to be a F2P title so it should be free :) They have just been charging in the early access period which is ... an interesting strategy.

But it is getting quite good buzz as a Hearthstone alternative, albeit most of the buzz is from people directly paid to give it quite good buzz as a Hearthstone alternative.

On a related note a friend got me to try Elder Scrolls: Legends (digital card game) and it's pretty darn solid too. Looking forward to digging in a little more. Looks like kind of a mix between Hearthstone and Solforge so far (I'm sure Solforge didn't invent the "lanes" mechanic, that's just the one I'm familiar with).

I see the digital version of 7 Wonders is in beta. Anyone have any impressions? Nobody in my life likes it, so I'm really excited for the digital edition.

EDIT: Shit, no. The article I was looking at was from LAST July. Where the fuck is it?

Definitely the biggest vaporware title in the genre. The bummer is they even stopped updating the cool official scoring app a few years ago, supposedly to work on this.

UpperDeck just confirmed via Twitter Digital Legendary is coming in 2017.

Please be Alien, please be Alien, please be Alien.

I know it's almost a neglected classic, but TTR got updated with the PA map and that map is absolutely fantastic. My favorite TTR map of all and well worth getting if you're into TTR. I'm no TTR pro but feel their AI is more than adequate to play against (IRL I'll just play the tabletop version ofc, but the app does have good pass & play for plane/train rides too).

I didn't buy it, but sushi go is out.

Great little card game, but the app looks a little cheap from screens. Would be interested in impressions if someone dives in.

New Ascension expansion looks cool, but as I'm sure a few of you know already, there's a big bug that's pretty much a game breaker. No doubt they'll fix it though.

Expansion City for my favorite games! Grabbing them all -- anyone needs a game drop me an invite AstroLad on everything.

Paperback is out on iOS (Android in the coming week or two I believe): https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/paperback-the-game/id1131388981

Great little word-building game and so far even the AI is pretty fun to play against though supposedly async play is coming in the next update.

I want it but I just grabbed Solitairica the other day and it's eating up my tablet time. On top of that, grabbed the Vita version of Darkest Dungeon today...

I've learned my lesson about buying games full price when I have no time tonplay them.

Ok the one thing I will say about Paperback in comparison at least to DD is that it's like a 5m commitment here and there. :P Not something you need time to go deep on. App implementation is quite good too afaict and includes pass & play multi which is fantastic as the one issue I have with the game is that it's a slight chore to set up (for how light it is).

Well, Solitairica is fantastic for a quick 5 minutes or an hour of play.

Have you tried it? I might like it more than Pocket Card Jockey. Both games are great!

EDIT
Okay, fine, I bought Paperback :(

I picked up the Paperback app and find it enjoyable, particularly on iPad (the cards are bit too small on iPhone). I hope that the app is updated to better explain the rules -- I've never played the physical game nor read the rulebook -- as I'm still confused about a few things e.g., I can sometimes buy a card with a higher cost than the score I've generated that turn (the score will go momentarily negative when I buy a card this way), but I'm not sure if this is some unexplained mechanic or a glitch.

EDIT: Also, how do you trash cards for the "If you trash a card, gain a card of that value +X cents" ability?

I noticed that once too. Must be a bug afaik. Rules here in case you wanted to have a quick look: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7JUltQm3Y91TTFPLWJ2WUhHSmM/view Game is quite simple but the "tutorial" is pretty hilariously brief so it probably is worth reading the rules once.

If you play a trashing card, just keep stuff in your hand and confirm the word and it will ask you after that.

The Paperback app seems really solid. The physical version is one of my favourite games so I'm glad it has translated well.

It just needs that multiplayer to come soon now.

I'm being humiliated by the AI fairly regularly. Tempted too much by the jazzy 'Y' and 'K' cards rather than going on a VP rush.

That's what's really funny about Paperback, is that the high-cost cards are powerful but not just objectively way better like almost every other deckbuilder (where, hell, even a 6-cost card is often a huge buff over a 5-cost card). Sometimes when you have a lot of income coming in you almost have to slow your roll and grab a wild every few turns. Or maybe say a wild and a 2-cost vowel. Actually one of the more nuanced deckbuilders out there in that respect which is funny in that mechanically it's not really a "serious" deckbuilder, more of a word game ofc, but quite enjoyable.

I know Paperback has a co-op mode but haven't tried it. Wonder if they'll add it to the app.

So what's everyone playing these days ? It's been a few months/years since I've dabbled into ios boardgaming. What about recent releases, is Brass still played ? Twilight Struggle ?
Any recommendations ?

Still really loving Pandemic, here.

Feel a little burned on jumping on the Suburbia sale last week. The app seems...okay...but I don't really like the actual game portion of it.

I liked playing Suburbia in person, but I can't quite put my finger on why I don't care for the app version. Maybe the small tablet screen just can't match the experience of looking out at a table full of cities. Maybe it's something else. Castles of Mad King Ludwig feels a bit better as there's less keeping track of opponents' castles, but the tile pricing element is no fun against AIs.

In any case, I still play a lot of Dominion (RU) and Lords of Waterdeep (base), both against the CPU. My skill in both games plateaued long ago, but they're fast, fun, and mostly mindless ways to relax while getting in some board gaming. I like Paperback and will probably stick with it for a while, but the combos and lucky draws of Ascension feel much better.

I agree -- I love Suburbia in person but never really got super into the app. One thing I wish apps did more is just give a little more context to the single-player experience. Even something as silly as achievements and basic stat-tracking. Castles of Mad King Ludwig does this really well but unfortunately I don't really like the core game. :/

Gwent looks to be pretty legit if you like digital card games (and yes, yes I do). I'll post some deets after I play a few more games. Anyone check it out yet?

Downloaded! Thanks for the heads up!

Also, Lanterns The Harvest Festival is available for IOS and Android:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/lanterns-harvest-festival/id1155269699?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo=4
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.direwolfdigital.lanterns

Any GAF impressions on the board game? I'm currently deciding if I should get this. Thank you.

Edit: Whelp, just found out that Tabletop released a new episode and the game played is, surprise, Lanterns. Guess I'll give it a watch.

It's fun and pretty light but still feel strategic to me. I like the game quite a lot.

I have it, the box is quite small and perfect for a road trip as well.

Nice. The game having a small box sounds good.

I'll try the app first before I buy the game. It's currently not available at my local game store, anyway. But I could find it easily on a couple of online shops.
