I subscribe to them. I think they one of the only video game channels I subscribe to. Them and Mighty Keef.

That's just crazy.

They are free to believe what they want, but all I care about as a viewer is expanding the knowledge I have about my hobby. The only videos from them that I care about are the PC-optimized settings, but even those are usually useless unless there is a bug in the game that a consumer wouldn't be aware of. Lately, I've just been using steamdeckhq to get an idea of what the most taxing settings are if I can't figure it out myself.

Im a fan of using their videos to draw my own conclusions, not trusting their personal subjective opinions coz they were wrong so many times already.

What's with all this crazy drama right now, why can't gamers ever just be chill?

I'm not a fan of DF by a long shot, but what exactly are people angry about? Seems like people have turned on DF all of a sudden.

I have found quite a few of their videos useful and informative, so yeah i like them, i'm not a die hard fan but also i'm not against them.

Mixed. Because like eating from the forbidden Tree of Knowledge, starting around 2013, they taught me both to put words to the graphical features I couldn't articulate, but also can't not notice visual inconsistencies and errors that now distract me from actually playing.

I can't stand Bugaga. Why is he all of the sudden in every PS5 Pro PSSR video??

Can't he get enough views with his PC Raytracing jerk off videos??

Retro is good but I stopped watching most of their content.

It all started with grassgate here on Neogaf, in which they used this place to launch their platform.

I thought pixel counting started on Beyond3D forums?

He is the most tech competent member of the crew, and he knows a lot about upscalers. Like him or not, he is a good choice for ML reconstruction testing. And he really likes PSSR2 so don't twist your panties too much.

Fuck em.

They (John here on gaf) admitted doing supposedly analysis, while in reality they got payed/sponsored by MSFT and got provided a script for the analysis too.

Like any other journalists, I take anything they say with a grain of salt.
In some cases, said grain is the size of Mount Everest. But a gain of salt, nontheless.

Yes. Hardly perfect, and they make mistakes, but solid content and nice discussions. Also been a big force for good when it comes to stutters on PC.

I also think they accelarted work on PSSR2, there was way too much negative information for Sony to ignore. See people, criticizing something that doesn't work correctly is not "hate" and can lead to good results?

People have weird ass relationships with online content creators. Am I a fan of DF? I don't even know what that means. They make content about a subject that I'm greatly interested in and I watch their videos. Some times I agree with them, sometimes I don't, but they are at least informative and well made. I like the channel overall, I guess that makes me a "fan" of DF as a whole, but not really individual people who work there.

I will say, this whole console war like shit surrounding them is so played out and ridiculous. People should just be normal.

i mean they are some tech enthusiast who talk about video games tech. They are not perfect and make mistakes. I mean who is?

Huge fan.

No. Them admitting they wait to see which way the wind is blowing with their fanbase before stating their opinions is the final nail in the coffin for me.

In the ps3/360 days they were much more useful because performance varied wildly between platforms. Now I have no use for them. There are better channels that cover these things that do a better job with optimized PC settings without trying to become internet celebrities.

I've been subscribed for years. DF Retro specifically is some of the best retro content online.

So yeah I guess?

I've begun to find them annoying after I listened to some of their podcasts and watched some of their videos where they appeared to only have superficial knowledge of how rasterization or ray tracing works. Yet, they have no problem as speaking as authority when they make statements about graphics stuff. Ask them how path tracing works and how it differs from ray tracing. Ask them to give a high-level rundown of the rasterization pipeline. Ask them what are some of the implicit rendering techniques they know (they should know about Signed Distance Functions, for example). Ask them about the basic transformations we use to get meshes from model space to screen space. Ask them what a fucking shader is. They could not answer any of these questions. If they want to talk about computer graphics stuff, they should have at least basic knowledge if they want to speak as an authority.

That being said, I still like their DF Retro videos. They are one of the better retrospectives on games on Youtube. Still not as good as the PCGames (German magazine) retrospectives, though.

They give the best game performance information - so I like that. Beyond that I don't really care.

I have a lot of time for Leadbetter. He always been a great journo since the Mean Machine days - I like their content in general, the retro stuff is brilliant but since they broke and went independent I think the shilling could become more prominent as they need the cash to run the channel

No. Not really.

I find them useful for the info about performances and new tech but i vastly disagree with their graphic taste, their clickbait titles, their shitty comparisons to make games looks better than they are and on a personal level i find almost all of them unsufferable and i don't like how spineless they are.

These things don't exist in a vacuum and were always on a schedule.

I appreciate their comments and opinions, even if I find plenty to disagree with at times. I'm also glad we have a group doing the deep dives on the technical side - not just traditional game reviews and/or shit posters.

No. Not really.
I'd say really. He's not perfect by any means and is not an engineer or anything, but developers and people who worked on UE5 such as Andrew Lauritzen find him competent. He misses stuff, but who doesn't?

What annoys me is when he does poorly made videos just to get them out the door when he's obviously not interested. When he actually wants to do the content, it's usually good.

He is millions times better than most youtubers that claim they know anything about game rendering. And they know which games are optimized (usually ones using PS4 tech) and which aren't...

These things don't exist in a vacuum and were always on a schedule.

Maybe, maybe not. If general reception was "it is perfect" then Sony would feel no rush to upgrade it this gen. And you could see that mostly from non tech outlets, but they also don't see anything wrong with Elden Ring performance so...

You know damned well that's not how ML works. You are being silly now.

I like DF Retro but generally don't watch them much anymore.
Also I don't take their conclusions as gospel, there are not horrible per se but it shows that they are "consumers" and don't actually know the deeps of 3d engine dev, those guys probably never wrote once a single line of shader code in their lives.

But he misses a lot of stuff and his testing methodology is really bad.
Only when there is a dev telling him what to say, does he do something right.

I don't care one way or the other I rarely watch them unless something controversial was said like the recent NVidia stuff. I certainly don't care about their 'reviews' as I don't care what the other systems perform like as I only care about what the game performs like on the system I am playing on.

And a lot of the time their technical expertise is, how shall I say... lacking

(they also seem easily 'bought')

I only found out yesterday that they boycotted Hogwarts Legacy because of all their woke ideology. Fuck them.

100%

Ignoring the game initially and refusing to cover it was complete bullshit... I believe Richard Leadbetter himself eventually did a video on it.

They're "access" media like all the others, and they don't want to lose that access. So, consider that when reading/viewing their content.

Sometimes their content can be interesting. Typically I don't care or it much though. I don't have much interest if a game drops 2fps for a split second a few times over the course of several hours.

What are you even arguing? Trying to formulate some whack ass conspiracy theory?

You were doing so well, sigh.

Usually when there is backlash to something, companies have incentive to improve it. They don't wast money on something if they don't have to.

That's reality, not conspiracy. Most people expected gradual updates to PSSR, not waiting 1.5 years for one big update when PS6 is around the corner.
