Digital Foundry: Can PS4 Pro Boost Mode Fix Just Cause 3?

Source (Video)

Join Dave as he tests out Just Cause 3 running on PS4 Pro under boost mode. Can the additional CPU and GPU clocks radically improve this performance-limited title?

Performance issues are still apparent, however the smaller frame-rate drops have been ironed out and tearing has been reduced. Boost mode offers a slightly more smoother and stable experience compared to the Base mode making it slightly more playable.

Depending on the individual scene there can be differences of around 2-10 fps.

Heavy frame-rate impacts are still apparently in Boost mode however, with metrics around 23 fps in Boost mode and 18 fps in Base mode.

I would love to see someone do it on the unpatched version . Cause the game got worse and worse the more they patched

Terribly optimized game all around. At least now it mostly matches last gen console versions of JC2. It was a bit of a joke that a similar quality graphics sequel ran so poorly on such new hardware.

I never had much problems with it patched on ps4 & i also had fun with it, its been months though, maybe next time i play it i'll remember to play offline

I never experienced the huge stuttering that some people shared. I even made a video for youtube showing that it was a pretty consistent 25-30fps experience.

The biggest flaw in the game, IMO, was how poorly the motorcycles handled. They were my favorite to drive in JC2, but are awful in JC3.

I really enjoyed this game, and I've been wanting a reason to jump back in. I wish the damn season pass itself would go on sale instead of the 'complete edition' being brought down to almost the cost of the season pass. I don't want to rebuy the game, I just want to pay the price difference between the bundle and the pass.

I take issue with the word "fix" in this context.

The people who should be "fixing" Just Cause 3 are the people who made the poorly performing game that is Just Cause 3 on PS4.

It's great that boost mode helps out performance for PS4 Pro owners but since that doesn't "fix" the fundamental problem on the base platform it is at best an expensive workaround.

My sentiments exactly. I never had any big problems with the frame rate, and these XL edition sales make me mad bc I just need the season pass.

It still runs like crap.

I'm still amazed they sold this broken trash with a straight face, and made it worse post-release.

It's running alot better, but still not good at all. That clearly shows how bad the PS4 version runs in the first place. Terrible optimization.
