Digital Foundry - Cyberpunk 2077 PC Version First Impressions

Basically just a podcast, but John is doing a damn good job hyping me for the graphics options.

John says that it feels like the game was "built ground up for the PC", so consoles weren't the baseline and it's using all advanced PC features to the max - VFXVeteran VFXVeteran vindicated!

I don't know why I would need vindication. Even if you weren't a professional in the industry where people tell you this is the case, you can actually "see" it in practice with any 3rd party title.

It's pretty terrible they released PS5-XSX as it is right now.
They should hurry the fuck up make it next-gen. Playing PS4 PRO version on PS5 feels like joke
Is that the case? This is the first generation ever where a console is "more powerful" than my PC for gaming but if that's the case maybe I should get the PC version after all.

John is a PS fan and he admits this game is the most impressive he's ever seen. RT - as I've said a gazillion times - will increase the visuals in games to that NEXT leap that people want. What we see now in regular games (i.e. Demon Souls, AC:Valhalla, etc..) isn't going to cut it..

Apparently, this is like the new Crysis. So all of us who upgraded with hopes of maxing out and going wild - probably not. There are 'psycho' settings.

I always knew that CDPR was going to make this game so that it dwarfs anything coming out this generation for the next 7yrs. They tend to do that. They might have Witcher 4 in the works, but it will most assuredly use this updated graphics engine.

"undersold graphics on PC"

so they cant even show their footage so its like ohh yh it looks amazing ... ok .. but again proves one thing, all they care is visuals, lighting and shadows and we care here about empty streets and bugs and stupid NPC. and yh look at game how it looks on medium settings maybe or high, without RT and talk then how it looks, because that would be what most ppl would experience. it just not working for me this is best looking game maxed, it kinda means not much rly. i saw gameplay videos allready and i dont see where i should be mind blowed there. just dont see it .

Are you mind blown by DeS or Spiderman MM?

RT is the future, nothing stops this trains.

there will be games releasing next year that look better

what is this 7 years nonsense? Lol

It's obvious to most, but it's still often a cause of contention on GAF.

I'm sure even a lot of PC owners are going to complain because they can't run it at the settings, resolution and framerate that they feel entitled to (even if they do only have a 1070), but I like the fact that games really seem to be pushing even the highest spec PCs (this and Flight Simulator are the prime examples so far). I hope companies continue to do so. We're likely to see Nvidia's 4000 and 5000 series before any next-next gen consoles (or even the pro versions, maybe), so it's exciting to see have far they can push the tech.

tell us how you really feel

My poor RTX 2060 is trembling with anticipation. I'll try to play maxed out, even if it is 1080p30 with DLSS. Can't wait to start tinkering with the game.

It's not a PC exclusive but the version everyone should experience is exclusive to PC. Hope the console versions turn out to be fine for those who stick to consoles but I can't wait to run this on my 3090, few more hours!!!

What game will look better (non-subjectively of course)? I'd love to put up a thread on it when it releases.

Every generation of hardware lasts about 7yrs before the next generation comes out.

If God of War 2 releases next year and is next gen exclusive I suspect it will

horizon 2 will likely give it a run for its money as well

Witcher 3 quickly had much better games on the market if not already surpassed

I couldn't even finish the video. My heart rate is accelerating with excitement. I'm so fucking pumped for tonight!

What would make God of War 2 look better. Put aside your subjective opinion because if we go by that, you will probably say God of War 1 looks better than Cyberpunk right NOW (which seems to be what you are implying).

So basically you are talking about art direction.. once again, any PS fanboy can claim that and "feel" they are right because no one can refute someone's subjective opinion. So basically your statement holds no merit in the context of what John was saying about Cyberpunk. He was speaking that it looks the best because of all the tech that was poured into the game. YOU won't be able to ever say that during this entire generation with the PS5 because a PS5 game will never use more tech than what the GPU is limited by... which is orders of magnitude lower than the high-end PC GPUs.

I told myself I would wrap up at least the story portion of Valhalla, I can't even fucking load the game up cause all my attention and focus is taken up by waiting for 5pm to roll around.

Holy shit, Control RT dethroned, this has RT: GI, AO, EMMISIVE, SHADOWS and reflections, everything needed to elevate the graphics with ray-tracing. Never imagined I would see this.

In general I find the character models (NPCs) in Cyberpunk and some of the geometry and textures of the world to be very basic looking (angular and plain).

sometimes it comes together and looks very impressive during the city sections, but from what I've seen so far it doesn't look like an enormous leap from what we already have

the special effects / animations don't overly impress me either

I expect God of War will have a very dense look to it in terms of detail with very impressive animations and special effects

John is likely wrong. I read on these forums that only 1st party titles are allowed to push a system to the max. This could probably run on consoles at 60+fps and 4K and still not max them out because devs have barely scratched the surface of their hardware, whereas PC's are a known quantity.

If you are going to subtract 50% points from overall visuals due to character NPCs (I'm not really sure if you are comparing Horizon or God of War NPCs to it because they don't look anywhere close to spectacular), then you might as well say that you think there are PS4 games that look better than Cyberpunk on a PC with max'd settings on RT. And with that, we might as well end the discussion. From your perspective, there will NEVER be a PC game that beats out your PS games no matter what generation.

Don't mock them dude, it's all they have :messenger_crying:

I got a i5-8400 and an RTX 2060, using 32 inch 1440p monitor. I'm hoping to achieve High with DLSS turned on and RTX off, and hit the good ol' 60fps.
