Digital Foundry :- Does resolution really matter?

As for the conclusion of the article... This seems to talk more about how hopefully the resolution won't be seen as such as huge distinction going forwards, primarily due to the Xbox One titles becoming more comparable in that area.
Err, isn't that what I've been saying all along? Leadbetter found out people are buying PS4s because the games have better resolution, and he wants that to stop, so he wrote an article about how unbelievable we are, because 900p is good enough for consoles because 1080p is hardly any better, and sub-native resolutions are actually a benefit because it improves the games in other ways. Even Sony know sub-native games are actually the best games. That's why they made The Order; to prove it to people who can't math. So don't look down on the Bone just because the games are lower resolution. It's still just as much fun, right?

We're not saying the same thing at all. You claim that Leadbetter wants to remove resolution as a consideration. I'm saying that he wants there to be less Xbox One games falling in the lower resolution brackets (720p, 792p whatever), which would have the effect of making the resolution less of a sticking point.

You read every part of the article (and probably every post on here) as some binary, either-or situation. "Is he saying something bad about the Xbox One? No? Then it's automatically something bad about the PS4!!". In order to make these judgements stick, you keep "paraphrasing" what's being said to make it more dramatic, so the words now fit the perception you have. This is how we keep ending up with stuff like "Ryse holds up" being transcribed into "same game wouldn't have looked better at 1080p". Nearly all of these paraphrases you provide are massive exaggerations, and spawn from a single point of contention.... you don't feel like the PS4 is being praised enough. Despite there not really being anything negative about the PS4 within the article, your problem with it is that the only way for you to not read it as negative for the PS4, is if it's suitably negative for the Xbox One. Basically, you won't be happy with anything stated in there unless it reads more along the line of...

Is 900p a Good Compromise for the Bone?

Yes. Thanks to its hardware limitations, outside of a few edge cases, the Bone will never deliver the same level of gaming experience as the PS4 can, but a game will be much more enjoyable at 900p30 than it will be at 1080p17. So try to be happy developers are dropping the resolution on the Bone, because it's better than the other compromises they may make instead.

Obviously, 1080p30 will always be preferable to 900p30 — especially on a 1080p display — so kudos to the Nielsen respondents for recognizing that and choosing the PS4.

The End

Lets see if resolution suddenly does matter with a 18% gpu difference next gen lel.
