Digital Foundry: Hands-on with Batman Arkham Knight on PS4

Having sunk many hours into the game, the stability of the build here is laudable. Our playthrough went almost entirely bug free, with only a faint flicker of pop-in for geometry and light maps at range, too far away from the player to be at all perceptible during play. The only real bug we encountered was a collision detection blip at the 50 per cent mark, causing us to fall through the game world in one specific spot while in the Batmobile. Fortunately, the rest of the adventure went uninterrupted, and we suspect we got unlucky in this one case
Unlike Arkham Origins then. Based Rocksteady gods.

the irony in this is so good

ot: great to know, based rocksteady delivering as always and i have a peace of mind on my pre-order

Solid performance and amazing visuals
It'll be interesting to.see whether this is 1080p or900p, if it's 1080p this is a landmark title

Mmm no I'd rather play it at 60fps. Gonna pick it up on PC.

Thank you for your valuable input on the performance of the PS4 version (which everyone already knew would be 30)!

Wow everyone thought this was going to stutter a bit but hearing the PS4 framerate is smooth? Wow can't wait for Tuesday.

Why did everyone think that? It has been looking very smooth in PS4 gameplay videos (or did people not believe that was actually PS4 footage?). Is it some ridiculous thing where people believe the PS4 is incapable of running good-looking games smoothly? Just because CDPR failed doesn't mean others have to.

Has this been downgraded? I have kind of been on media blackout since the reveal trailer. Maybe its just rose tinted glasses but it does not seem to wow me nearly as much as it initially did? maybe because its been so long? that there are so many good looking games out/coming out? to me it looks kind of
generic?

does the game ONLY take place during night/rain?

One of the earliest gameplay trailers:

It includes bits from the final game video.

I noticed some slight differences in reflection quality, perhaps, but it actually looks very very close.

I'm so weak. I wanted to hold off because of the retailer-specific preorder DLC, but I don't know how strongly I can stick to my convictions. I'm weak when Batman's involved, especially a Batman game with a solid framerate... I am weak.

You're not being weak. You're being smart by enjoying a potentially excellent game whenever you want, instead of waiting for god knows how long for a GotY edition.

Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are still two of my favorite games of all time. Same developer? Rock solid framerate? Great gameplay? Day One.

That's very impressive. No word on resolution in that first article though, but if they are indeed pulling this off at 1080p that's even more impressive.

is the effect where the rain particles are lit by the lights they pass over still present? Didn't notice it.

Other than that, looks about the same as it did when first unveiled (on a PC anyway)

It's first preview on the Sony stage was PC footage that looks a smidge better than what there is now. It still looks great! But rain has definitely taken a hit in graphics. There was a lot of talk at the time on how the PS4 version was running with a very low framerate and this is before the release date got pushed so people were starting to worry. It has nothing to do with people's perception of the console. Why so serious?

Very good for folks getting the PS4 version. Finally a great-looking open-world game that actually runs well on console and likely has very few glitches and crashes...it runs much better than Assassin's Creed: Unity, The Witcher 3 and other high-profile multiplatform games...and also better than some PS4 exclusives. An outstanding-looking (easily better looking than TW3), highly-polished huge open world with good controls, animations and gameplay (Batmobile aside, judging from reviews) is indeed possible. Good work, Rocksteady. Especially if they pulled all this off at 1080p.

Hopefully the PC version is also well-optimized, as that's the version I'm getting.

Very impressive. The game performance is very solid even when a lot of shit is going on screen. If this is really running at 1080p, then they really put many developers to shame.

WHAT IF the devs payd Digital Foundry to NOT say the resolution right now, so our reactions could be the best possible?!

They provided footage and screens. People can just pixel count it. The gameplay videos released a few weeks ago that specified PS4 footage were 1080p so I doubt it's gone down since then.

Another 1080p rock solid 30fps open world game on the PS4. Take this as a lesson Ubisoft, this is how you do it.

Very impressed here, minus the aliasing issues that is clearly present. I'm thinking the day one patch will provide some further performance enhancements and maybe some AA, but this early footage is a very good indicator as to good work done.

The officer down footage which was claimed to be on PS4 was pixel counted out to 1080p. Unless they downgraded in the interim which i doubt, its still 1080p at solid 30fps.

Good job rocksteady. Now all i care about is whether or not there are any glitches or what not.
