edit: Full DF Written article and analysis with more screenshot comparisons is up.

Is Persona 5 on PS4 actually a 1080p Remaster ?

- Not using GameBryo (Catherine's Engine). New engine.
- Game as 1160 'event scenes' in total.
- All main characters consist of less than 17,000 triangles (for reference InFamous Second Son main characters have 120,000+ triangles).

- PS4 has nice stable 1080p/30 fps. No frame pacing issues. No hitches or drops. Locked 30 FPS.
- Absolutely no PS4 Pro updates. (chandoog note: The game is well enough optimized so Boost mode doesn't add anything extra).

- PS3 compares very favorably considering the generational gap.
- PS3 is 720p/30 with very frequent screen tearing.
- PS3 has lower texture filtering and shadow resolution.
- Frame rate prone to drop to high 20's but sticks to 30 for most of the game.

- Loading times are quicker on PS4. Battle load times 4 seconds on PS4 to 7 seconds on PS3.

DF haven't put up any direct comparisons yet so here's some from a much older source. No spoilers.:

Didn't know about the tearing on PS3. Still looks really good from what I've seen.

Yeah, the game has a very strong vibrant art style and even then textures seem to be mostly PS3 quality even on PS4, so PS3 owners aren't missing much.

Do we think they'll add PS4 Pro mode? Or does Sony's rule about every game running better on Pro not apply because it launched in September in Japan?

The fast loadings on PS4 is nice since Persona 5 has alot of loading and transition screens and can add up alot in your 100+ playthrough

It would've been cool if DF also compared it to PS4 Pro Boost Mode loading times should be a tad more faster from a mix of faster CPU with Sata 3, most games i seen boost mode loadings are always faster and noticeable.

Shame DF didn't take a more accurate look into the poor audio quality the game has. Interested as to why the decision was made to compress audio so much / use a low quality bitrate.

Answered your own question :P. Not mandated since it was before the deadline so Atlus probably dont want to waste time and money to support it

The game was released before the cutoff in Japan so it gets a pass.

A shame really. I bet they could probably do native 4k in the Pro here since the PS4 version is just a direct port from last gen. Similar remeasters like TLOU & Skyrim could do native 4k.

Oh and HDR. I bet that art style would melt faces with HDRs depth.

Sucks that boost mode doesn't do much. Great game though.

There's not much Boost Mode could have done anyway, game is rock solid 30 FPS on OG PS4. If there are any rare frame drops or tearing in later parts of the game, maybe those get ironed out.

Which is a shame because this game in 4K HDR would look slick as fuck. I mean it's slick but it could have been better.

They are wrong about boost mode not doing anything. It does make the game load quicker in some instances (as it does with all games that are not pro patched)

They didn't mention boost mode in the video at all, just about game not having any Pro updates. Boost mode comment was added by myself, I'll edit it.

Not sure about OG Ps4 but running smoothly on pro and everything is snappy with quick load times. They took a lot of time to make it run perfectly without issues.

I just wish that they bothered packing in higher-res textures and using the PS4's extra memory to decrease the amount of loading screens (even though they do go by pretty fast). Those are much more of a bummer than no 60fps or 4K on the Pro.

Yeah, I neglected to mention boost mode. It helps slightly with loading but not across the board. Good mention there.

Game is jaggy as shit on PS4.

Sometimes I wonder if it is 1080p.
Almost feels like the PS4 version was an afterthought.
Like they just cranked the resolution up and called it a day.

You can tell that it was a PS3 game initially I feel. It's got style out the ass but some textures and the like are noticeably ropey. I've had no crashes or bugs and that is what matters most to me when playing a game but boy am I glad there is no screen tearing on PS4 - that is the one overall graphical hitch that my eyes see clearly.

My GOTY so far.

For me that's still Zelda (by a lot) but still a damn good game. Shows there's still a place for turn based stuff in the world even though I'm also fine with action based combat.

I guess when they say it's favorable to PS4 version they mean raw graphic performance, because "frequent screen tearing" isn't my idea of favorable haha. Glad I have the PS4 version in that respect.

The fast loading on the PS4 is great. I've only been playing this game non-stop sonce release and longer times would have been a massive pain.

I dug out my pstv and will hit up P3P and P4G after P5 unless I immediately jump back into ng+...

i don't have a ps4 but i do have a ps3, doesn't look like i'll be missing out on much if i just go ahead and buy it for ps3 (load times/screen tearing will be annoying but bearable)

but PC...

What really impresses me on PS4 are the fast loadings when fast travelling. It's 2 seconds, maybe 3 at most sometimes.

Running off of an SSD, it loads everything as fast as you'd expect a Tales Of... game to load. It's fantastic. Near instantaneous transitions between areas and the battles load up within a second of initiating them.

Aside from 60fps and much better quality sign textures, I'm not sure what else Atlus could have done to improve the game for the PS4 and Pro.

I noticed some stuttering at the scenes where you are on the way to school and listen to other people. Like a constant micro stutter, comparable to the one in the Digimon Cyber Sleuth PS4 Version.

Playing on PS4 Pro.

Odd that as it was primarily designed as a PS3 game they didn't consider that horrendous image destroying screen tearing an issue.

Was there any validity to early reports of boost mode cutting off audio or some other wonky things periodically for the Pro? Been playing with it turned off to guard against that based on them, would rather just keep it on if there are actually no issues.

The game does look jaggerific in bright sun-lit areas, having a higher resolution would have taken care of that.

I think aside from 1080p, the game doesn't have any anti aliasing either, or not a good implementation of it. Would love a confirmation from John on this.

40+ hours on a Pro with boost mode enabled, haven't had a single glitch. I'd say it's safe to turn it on.

It probably could've hit 4k30 on Pro, judging by its performance profile on both the PS3 and PS4.

But yeah, better textures and or 60fps would've been nice.
