Digitimes: Pixart's HRM sensor will support Nintendo NX

vitality-sensor-controller2.jpg
It lives!

It's about chips supporting VR (whatever that means) to be used for NX, not HRM. Unless there is a total confusion in the article and it's in fact HRM chips for QoL not for NX.

I've been talking to Eradicate about this, Jim_Cacher will hopefully provide translation of the original article.

QoL still on the agenda it seems.

Still, this is interesting, but its worth considering context. They might mean 'machines' as in the same way you might say 'PS4 consoles' - referring to the population of machines rather than the individual units each user has.

What does this mean, for the layperson? Is HRM heart rate monitor? Does this mean VR is supported for NX?

Edit: ok, read the article. I think I get it a bit better now. HRM is heart rate monitor (misspelled as hear rate in the article). All this means is NX will have a HRM, which could or could not lead to VR. Is that pretty much the gist?

Cool, from what I can see pixart made the Wii remote optical sensor and I'd guess they could have done the rest of their system cameras.

Machines mean the extra power supples and other devices that will work with this console. It wont be a regular consile, it will be many devices and you buy whatever hardware you want it to work with.. if thats more power, vr, qol, AR... thats up to you. Watch.

Well if this is the case let's hope their messaging is better than it was with the Wii U, because this'll be confusing to the average crowd.

Maybe these chips will be implemented in such a way to control difficulty/scariness within a game based on the player's current heart rate? lol I dunnno, just guessing. But it would definitely be very interesting at least for VR, I'd love to get my hands on such an experience.

It would sort of work like a lie-detector in sensing people's reactions to things. People could live stream themselves playing a game and showing that they can get through the most "terrifying" part without losing their cool, would be fun to watch those who can get through it and those who's hear rate would shoot through the roof!

SCD, home console streaming to a handheld, this VR chip.
I think we already know a lot of bombs they could have revealed during a presentation and shocked the gaming market with.
That's a bunch of patents that may be completely unrelated to NX's final iteration. We don't know shit.

For instance, we thought we knew what Zelda BOTW was about, and we were blown away regardless. Nintendo will always surprise.

From where do we know home console streaming to HH?

And, if I understand correctly, this chip tells us VR is more possible with it, I guess, but it doesn't definitely tell us anything more than heart rate monitoring.

I think we need a better translation of the Chinese article, the article in the OP is very poor and confusing.

AMD selling customs Polaris chips to console manufacturers, and one of the new features of Polaris if I remember correctly is the native streaming in x265, which is a far more efficient "remote play" than what we already know, which is currently x264.

This appears to be the articles origin. In Chinese of course

Google Translated the last paragraph:

"Most popular in the VR market, added to the end of the original quite different open-source virtual reality (OSVR) organization, estimates can be completed before the end of this year's fastest chip design finalized and sent to the client for authentication, industry expectations, the original phase is expected to smoothly into the next generation of Nintendo's Nintendo NX support VR supply chain. Corporate optimistic about the new Nintendo machine will continue next year sizzling heat of the game Pokemon Go, the original phase and therefore also ranked stocks."

Is this saying that NX will be OSVR compatible? Anyone speak Chinese to do a better translation?

Why isn't this site banned yet? They have a horrible track record and seem to just post whatever for hits, then change their story once something is proven wrong.

Damn I called it lmao.

As a horror fan, this is exciting to me, because if NX really does have a heart rate monitor / vitality sensor, it could lead to some interesting horror game mechanics.

They're just reporting on a China Times article, this isn't a Digitimes "original". (Not that I have any idea how reliable China Times is on these things)

The reference to OSVR may simply be due to Pixart being part of the OSVR group. The second paragraph (again Google translated) is also interesting:

Meanwhile, the original phase has been used 3D depth imaging technology for position sensing of virtual reality (VR) applications, more popular catch Pokémon (Pokemon Go) augmented reality (AR) concept, is also optimistic about the legal original phase can successfully penetrate the Japanese video game giant Nintendo launch next year to support the VR Nintendo NX supply chain.

(emphasis mine)

The implication seems to be that they're providing some kind of depth sensing technology for Nintendo to use for VR on the NX. Of course, without a proper translation it's foolish to read too much into it. This could purely be speculation on the part of the author.

I doubt that they're any more reliable than Digitimes.

Oops, I just discovered that Eradicate had sent me a message about this. I was busy and missed the message last night. I will translate it right away.
