The only Miyazaki film I haven't seen on this list is 'Castle of Cagliostro'

I will make it my duty to watch it before this survivor match ends.

:lol Spirited Away is by far Miyazaki's most critically acclaimed film. Go look it up on Metacritic - it has like a 93 or something, and it was number 1 on a lot of critics' top 10 lists the year it came out.

I personally find it to be a pretty but utterly soulless film, but of course that's subjective.

Film critics and fanboy Gaffers are two different breeds.

My vote is for Nausicca.

It might actually be a really good movie, however I made the mistake of reading the manga first and it became, without a doubt, my favorite manga ever. The movie in comparison is a horrible mishmash of everything that made the manga great. I came away very disappointed.

Well, Nausicaa is getting trashed by you tasteless bastards. Sure, the manga is better, but I imagine most of you haven't seen Kiki's Delivery Service and such. Oh well.
To be fair, I was willing to vote for Kiki's but I remembered when I watched it again a few months back and really enjoyed it a lot more than I had initially thought. Very light-hearted and cute.

Suprising, but Nausicaa is likely knocked out early. Seems like most of the offensive, ambitious films will be knocked out by a common few - while the lighthearted, inoffensive films slip by and make it near the top. Probably only to be blown out of the water by the remaining epic in direct competition. Which looks to be Mononoke, as it's got the least ammount of haters. Couple years back, and I'd of been trying to knock that one out fairly early.

laputa
way more boring then all the others
DOES NOT COMPUTE

Seriously, Laputa has airships, pirates, a train chase, magical spells, killer robots, and a giant floating city. Some of you must have no inner child or something.

It sounds a lot more fun than it is. Castle in the Sky would get my vote if My Neighbor Totoro weren't so painfully boring.

My Neighbor Totoro

current round:

Nausicaa - 14 votes
Laputa: Castle in the Sky - 5
Castle of Cagliostro - 5
Spirited Away - 4
My Neighbor Totoro - 4

My Neighbor Totoro

White Man, ban!

Porco Rosso. I can't believe Nausicaa is getting voted out. Utterly fantastic and epic film, even though it was one of his earliest.

Seriously, it probably makes my top 5 Miyazaki films. Really well done.

I think I will vote out Castle of Cagliostro, but Nausicaa looks like the loser here.
Ah well, I would have voted for one of them next anyhow.

I suspect not everyone voting has seen all the films listed. Yes, Nausicaa or Laputa will probably have to go at some point, but NOT in the second round. Especially since Princess Mononoke is just Nausicaa-lite. ;)

yeah, i'm only voting on movies i've seen, and i've only seen mononoke, spirited, howl's, naussica, and porco, so while i'm pretty sure i would like nausica better than kiki's delivery service, i'm only voting for movies i've seen (until i get to the last one i like most, then i'll vote for whatever's against it)

well ive seen kikis, howls, spirited away, and princess mononoke.

howls sucked. and kikis was meh. Ill abstain this round.

Wait. People who haven't seen all the movies are voting? I would have thought that would have been against the rules.

IF my vote counts (and I have only seen Nausicaa, Mononoke, Totoro, Howl's, and Spirited Away) then I vote off Nausicaa next.

Edit: For the record, I like Nausicaa better than Mononoke. It just seems like I have a better chance of getting rid of Nausicaa now.

I agree totally.

I'm not voting. I'm ashamed to say I haven't seen enough Miyazaki films to be of any use here.

I don't know about that. Both have the same themes running through them, nature vs mankind, but the characters and stories are too different to really consider them the same.

Like a few others have already said.. if I hadn't read the manga I wouldn't be voting for Nausicaa. Sort of like the difference between the Porco anime and the short manga except in a totally different light. The Porco manga is very simple and only 15-20 pages long - the anime expands on everything and therefore I enjoy the movie more.

I'm voting castle of Cagliostro out simply because it happens to be the only one I haven't seen. All you people voting Nausicaa on the second freaking round should be ashamed of yourselves.

I'm ashamed, but the only two left I haven't seen are Cagliostro and Totoro. I actually own both, but I just haven't gotten around to it. As for the rest, here's my order:

7. Porco Rosso
6. Castle in the Sky
5. Howl's Moving Castle

These top 4 are hard to choose between except for #1:

4. Princess Mononoke
3. Kiki's Delivery Service
2. Nausicaa
1. SPIRITED AWAY (One of my all-time favorites in any genre. One of the few movies that really gets me emotionally every time.)

NAUSICAA OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND IS OUT.

Remaining SEVEN films:

Kiki's Delivery Service
The Castle of Cagliostro
Spirited Away
My Neighbor Totoro
Porco Rosso
Princess Mononoke
Laputa: Castle in the Sky

Ranking..

9. Howl's Moving Castle
8. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
7. ?

Was going to vote for Princess Mononoke, but I will go with the only other one I have not watched yet: The Castle of Cagliostro

Also, I think me watching the English dub before the Japanese version when I first purchased the DVD so many many years ago kind of tainted my impression of the film. :/

The Castle of Cagliostro

same reasoning as before. It doesn't have that magical touch that his other works have. Its a great movie, but could have been done by any good filmmaker. The others clearly have Miyazaki's signature on them
