What the hell....Talk about out of nowhere.
Guessing either terminal illness, or some horrible scandal about to come out. Why else would a 68-year-old still in the Hollywood game off himself?
Must have read the Top Gun 2 script.
Reading his wiki was a huge wtf moment. So many movies that I love. I feel bad that I didn't remember he directed most of them.

Mental illness, depression more likely.Exactly. I can't see anything out of left field unless like he was in deep with the mob or something being the cause.
Best excuse is that it is Denzel in super scary psycho mode. He was so much scarier in this than Training Day. Really, the Denzel and Tony Scott team was awesome.I think I'll watch Man on Fire tomorrow in his memory. Been looking for an excuse to dig that out. Such a shame.

What was that time travel movie he did with Denzel? Wasn't that supposed to be a pretty good film?
This is exactly what I thought. Its a significant blow to humanity to commit suicide. It just goes to show you that being happy is paramount. Life isn't about anything else. We've all seen people with what we think, would make us happy, do this. I hate what depression and sadness has the ability to do such damage to the greatest gift we've been fortunate enough to experience.
I hope that this causes some sort of peace for him, wherever he may be now.

I don't want to do anything, so sad
It had nothing to do with that he and his brother had their own production company, Scott Free Productions. No investors needed. Was he broke? I guess he owed too much money from the investors. But all the money his movies made tells otherwise.
Deadline has not yet independently confirmed this report. But the local Daily Breeze newspaper is quoting Los Angeles County Coroners officials as saying that the 68-year-old British film director jumped to his death today from the Vincent Thomas Bridge spanning San Pedro and Terminal Island. Tony Scott is known for such Hollywood blockbusters as Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Beverly Hills Cop II and The Taking of Pelham 123, as well as ScottFree Productions which producers TV shows like The Good Wife with his brother Ridley Scott. Tony Scott climbed a fence on the south side of the bridges apex and leaped without hesitation around 12:30 PM, according to the Coroners Department and port police quoted by the newspaper. A suicide note was found inside Scotts black Toyota Prius, which was parked on one of the eastbound lanes of the bridge, as U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Jennifer Osburn told the Daily Breeze. Earlier today Deadline was alerted that an older gentlemen who people recognized from either movies and/or TV tried to jump off a pier and that the attempt was not successful.
This is dreadful news.
