Disaster day of crises (Wii) new screens

Anasui Kishibe said:
cool, but hope graphics will be better than that crap, and it kinda looks like it will

yeh, hopefully.. that was late last year i think .. you'd think it would have improved by now

The concept slightly reminds me of Burning Rangers. Well, the rescuing people from an environmental disaster part anyway. I'll probs get this game almost exclusively on the strength of that... I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

So what your saying is that games on the Wii graphically sux compared to other platforms.

No, I'm saying that Monolith is not capable of pulling anything good-looking from this supposed "2xGameCube".

those screens are minuscule. how are you people judging them off of that? it's the same as saying a game looks amazing by a tiny pic. actually, some of the larger ones look pretty nice, and if i put my tiny screen goggles on, looks like those fire effects are pretty sweet. grain of salt though.

This screenshot is old, yet it is shown in the folder. From that I deduce that the screenshots in the folder are old too! WOW.

its actually different.. well.. as far as i can tell.. i think

i don't know, the toolbar at the bottom looks a little different, but everything else is the same... so .... i don't know :P

It's just the same scene, not the same screen. Compare the HUD.

You tell that from the worst screenshot you could find? Wow.

I am honest. There are some other screens that are not quite as good-looking as this one. Which, of course, is shitty since the hype level for this game has reached an OMG level for many of us :(

I am disappointed.

Yes, you seem to be

Heh, heh. I wonder how anyone can be hyped for this game when we know almost nothing about it.

On top of that, it's an open world game, and those kinds of games typically make a lot of sacrifices graphically. Considering we don't have any recent screens and these are fairly small, I'd say it looks pretty good considering the kind of game it is. I'd wait to hear about the gameplay before I'd get disappointed if I were you.

Huh, you're "more right" than me :(

I can't wait to hear more about this. That super low quality scan has me interested, looks like there will be some gameplay variety.

No one said anyone was "more right". You stated your opinion, I stated mine. Pretty simple as that.

You said you were "disappointed", and I don't see why. If you want to go into why you think so when we know so little about the game, then that's what this forum is for. All I'm getting at is perhaps it would serve you better to wait until there are impressions of actual gameplay and up to date screens. You may find out that the game is actually quite good. Judging solely by the graphics alone seems a little unfair at this point.

For a game that's been in development for years, it kinda looks poor...

Despite an interesting premise, lets not kid ourselves here, it'll likely disappoint :(

Yep. Disaster has never looked good to me. As much as I want it to be great, I just don't think it will be. Do we have any idea of how the game actually plays yet?

You're probably right. What I'm more interested in seeing is what the game is actually about, because I've been following it off and on for a while now and feel like I don't know anything about or even what kind of game it is.

When was the last time we actually saw this game in action? E3 2006? Have we ever really seen gameplay video?

Also, I wonder if this means that a June release in Europe, as reported by a number of retailers, is true...

Wow. That's embarrassing. For me.

Some stuff in the realtime trailer looks just great. The scene with the crumbling house for example. Most screenshots look quite bad, though.

Haven't we been down this road a hundred times before? MP3 looked bad in screens. Mario Galaxy looked bad in screens. Soma Bringer looked bad in screens.
But they all look great in motion.

I said this because you were right. Judging a game on graphics alone is dumb.

BUT we already had some informations in the past about the fact that the gameplay of this title could be a blast so seeing that the graphics had not evolved in the last twelve or fourteen months makes me sad. And this is why I am disappointed (according to the fact that screens are indeed up-to-date ).

The game could end up being a lot of fun though, even with this Bug-Island level of graphics.

Maybe this was why Nintendo bought Monolith.

Namco probably saw how shit the game was shaping up to be and they decided to cut thier loses, and Nintendo saw a bargain when they saw the basement price Namco was selling Monolith for.

Overstatement for dramatic effect?

I may not be able to tell the difference between July and September, but that's just stupid. Unless you've seen some screens or footage that, I don't know, isn't the low res scan in the op.

hur hur hur

That's about all your post deserves, really.

I just don't understand NoJ's recent stance on not properly communicating the nature of a game. To spend years developing something and not get the word out into the market on how a game plays is kind of ... well, I just don't know what it is.

I'm not even talking about marketing or branding. I literally mean, how the hell does one play this game? What kind of genre is it? We're not going to hype ourselves about nothing, it's your job to tell me what to look forward to.

Never looked as bad as Disaster though. You got everything from very low poly count to blurry textures and lack of lighting. Basically it looks like an OK PS2 game. That doesn't mean it can't be a good game but judging from what he have been shown thus far it won't look great in motion.

I still laugh just thinking about the trees.
