Dishonored 2 PC performance thread

So, tomorrow then. Damn.

Well, hope the patch does its job.

I know I should! Buts its like 30 some odd pages long. Im very lazy lol

In short, it's bad.

Slightly longer: Inconsistent-to-game breakingly ugly performance no matter if you're mid range or rocking a Geforce 1080 - independent of graphics settings - with just a few players able to report stability for no reason that can be discerned. Bizarre, hitching input timing with a mouse sensitivity seemingly tied to frame rate. Frame locking to 30 generates super long load times. Game forced to low priority in Windows unless janked to "high" using the equivalent of a sledgehammer. Adaptive resolution non-functional.

Good summary

Bethesda seriously needs to put out a PR statement with an ETA of the first patch and an overview of the general timeline and fixes in this "series" of planned followup patches.

And post the beta of the current patch as well. It can hardly make things worse.

While I agree that the way they're going about this is entirely frustrating, however, I wonder why they "need to put out a PR statement". I mean, the game was already sold to us. Why spend the extra resources?

This is actually as fast as I've seen the game load; with the frame limit set or not. Load speed is definitely erratic. Sometimes it's a lot slower than in this video. Either way, the point is that it isn't noticeably slower at 30fps.

I've actually turned off the cap now, as it's too unresponsive at 30fps.

I just can't get the game to feel very smooth whatever I do.

Interesting. This is still at the beginning of the game isn't it? I've not tried it there. I only tried capping it once I got a few hours into it. I just tried it again and it took ages like it always has.

adaptive resolution non-functional?

Nah it definitely works for me.

It doesn't work. How are you testing it?

What's your setup out of curiosity?

i7-920 @4ghz, 12gb RAM, Gtx 970. Game is installed on a SSD.

Thanks. Interesting stuff. I've been holding off even booting the game up with all the negative reports, but since I plan to do 4k, and probably 30fps as a result on my 1070, I'd play if I knew the load times weren't totally bugged. Maybe I should just give it a shot...

"When Dishonored 2 was launched, the game experienced PC performance problems on machines with specific configurations. We’re working to address some of these with our updates over time, and some will be addressed by driver updates released by our partners.

Today we’re beginning the process with new NVIDIA PC drivers (375.95) and our first post-release title update (Update 1.1).

PC users on NVIDIA cards should grab this driver [nvidia.custhelp.com] update before playing.
NVIDIA driver 375.95 Link [nvidia.custhelp.com]

For users with AMD cards, the recommended driver is still 16.10.2. Look for more information from AMD on CrossFire support in the near future. As we have new information on drivers for both card types, we will update our forums.

Additionally, a new title update for Dishonored 2 (v 1.1) is now available via Steam as a Beta update – see below for instructions. Update 1.1 includes a small number of fixes including:
Mouse improvements, including a fix for sensitivity being framerate dependent
Fixes an AMD cloth physics issue, which impacts framerates at various points in the game
Fixes an issue affecting CPU task priority - the game no longer switches CPU task priority
If you run into issues or have questions please let us know in the public Dishonored 2 Steam Beta Forums on Bethesda.net.

Our work on Dishonored 2 continues. Update 1.2 development is underway and will address a broader range of issues including performance and is estimated to be available in the next week.

How to access the Steam Beta
Log into Steam.
Right Click on Dishonored 2 in your Library.
Select Properties.
Select Betas.
A drop down menu will appear. Select BetaPatch.
Select OK.
Wait a few minutes for game to update.
When done, Dishonored 2 [BetaPatch] should appear in our Library.

Thanks for your support!

I can't get proof anytime soon lol

However, I can tell the resolution definitely scales down because models and textures suddenly become blurrier and then goes back to crystal clear during gameplay.

I have to set adaptive resolution set to 50 every time I start up the game btw. It resets every time I start and restart the game.

That's probably just idTech 5 texture streaming garbage.

21.9MB of files in the 64-bit version doesn't seem right when the 32-bit version is over 300MB.

The win 10 64 bit one was normal sized for me so might be an issue with the DL.

If it doesn't work try the Geforce Driver forums they'll usually have a stickied thread with hotfix drivers.

lol I guess you could assume that, but it doesn't look like it. The entire screen becomes less clear as if it's a lower resolution. I have turned adaptive resolution up to 100 (which turns the feature off) to test it and the game wouldn't become blurrier at the same points as it would before. My framerate would then chug a lot harder.

Sorry my experience is better than yours ;)

The patch is 6 gb but apparenlty it's requiring a shitload more space to actually install. Though Steam got rid of this problem finally, but I guess not.

Uhhh what? I haven't even bothered playing the game until performance fixes are out. What is even the point of the bolded? Congrats that the game looks worse for you?

You are doubting everything I'm saying and it's amusing to me. I was just jesting. That's the point.

Anyone else getting the "non 7z archive" error when trying to install the nvidia driver in win10? This error message pops when I have selected where to unpack the files and press the confirmation to unpack.

You're thinking of pre-loads (the data is now split into 1GB chunks which are deleted on-the-fly when the game is unpacking). Steam's patching system works as follows:

Yeah, when patching a game, all of the files being modified are saved to the downloading folder then moved once they're updated. E.g. If you install Garry's Mod and switch to the dev branch, the "patch" is only a 90MB download, but in actuality the dummy data takes up 755MB.

Do you have some weird 3rd party program that interferes with self-extracting archives? 7-zip shouldn't be causing the issue.

I don't see any performance improvement in Karnaka, audio seems better from quick testing as does the mouse. 1070 here.

Edit: setting everything to High does help the fps way more than it did before it seems
