Dishonored 2 PC performance thread

I can't get proof anytime soon lol

However, I can tell the resolution definitely scales down because models and textures suddenly become blurrier and then goes back to crystal clear during gameplay.

I have to set adaptive resolution set to 50 every time I start up the game btw. It resets every time I start and restart the game.

What is your FPS and HW utilization when you notice these drops in image quality? Also game is far from crystal clear if you are running any of games AA options, or you are downsampling big time.

Edit: Developer set default value is 75

I don't see any performance improvement in Karnaka, audio seems better from quick testing as does the mouse. 1070 here.

Edit: setting everything to High does help the fps way more than it did before it seems

I wouldn't expect wonders from this patch when it comes to raw fps. The things they absolutely should fix are the frame timing (or is it pacing) issues and the mouse madness.

Its definitely feels better. I still am running into directional audio stuff where people behind me sound like they are infront though, seems to happen only for stuff that isn't subtitled.

Do you have some weird 3rd party program that interferes with self-extracting archives? 7-zip shouldn't be causing the issue.

No, my PC is used exclusively for gaming. Has 7-zip, but no other programs that I can think of that would interfere here.

Edit: nm, the file with the driver was messed up (only 20 Mb large). I grabbed to proper file from guru3d and installed without issue.

Well I got into combat and the voice issues came back, enemies sounding like they are behind/infront of me when they aren't, etc. Does the console version not have this issue?

Man, I forgot about the audio stuff. It's really problematic that you can't rely on sound cues in a stealth game. Bummer to hear that that hasn't changed much.

It does NOT fix the frame pacing issues for me. Here is a video- you can see hitching as I pan the camera.

This is at Very Low on a 1070 with i7 6500k and 16 GB RAM.

I can't view the video because it's set to private. However, I have the same specs as you and this worries me.

Installed the new drivers and the patch.

i6700 @ 4.4 ghz
1070 @ Stock
16 GB DDR4 @ a bit over stock

1080p
Ultra settings / Everything on / TXAA1 / HBAO+ / Adaptive res at 100

I've been using two places in the Docks to test performance. The most intensive one is the pier to the far left of where you start, near the whales. If I'm standing as far out as I can, facing the high wall/city, my FPS would drop from 60 to 40. Other places the game would stutter and drop to 55. While not a bad framerate, it feels very stuttery and unresponsive with vsync on.

After the patch I'm getting 58-60 pretty much everywhere. There's still some stuttering.

Oh, and the HBAO+ is pretty broken. It kinda fades in and out in nearby geometry as you pan the camera. It was like this before the patch, so not a huge issue.

I gave up using fps metrics because even 60fps can still feel shakey. However, the game feels smoother with it at setting 50. It's not perfect, but it's something.

I use TXAA with aggressive LumaSharpen in the ReShade injector to counter the AA's static blur affect. My image is beautifully clear with hardly any aliasing.

Never knew steam releases beta drivers. So when will the official drivers be available?

``Our work on Dishonored 2 continues. Update 1.2 development is underway and will address a broader range of issues including performance and is estimated to be available in the next week.´´ Source: steam post

Yeah, performance seems about the same as it was before, maybe slightly (and I mean slightly) better. At least I don't have to remember to start up my AutoHotkey script to change CPU priority now, though.

Holy crap, they didn't even fix the bug that stops you from going back to Full Screen after switching to Borderless.

Feels like this patch barely did anything. Wonder if this is the one that PC Gamer tested or maybe they were testing next week's patch?

On a 1070 / 2500k things seem much better.

The input feels perfect, especially after disabling in game v-sync and using FastSync instead.

The performance still leaves room for improvement, but it's most improved in areas where you have a long, birds-eye view. Like, overlooking a busy street previous plummeted me into the 30s / 40s, now it only dips slightly below whatever its averaging at.

This game is just so weird

I get a solid 60fps using adaptive Vsync, but my frametime hovers steady around 21 (as opposed to ~16). Which makes something about the motion jarring and off. I've seen frametime spikes screw with gameplay, but never a consistently wrong frametime...

RivaTuner lock at 60 fixes frametime but then I get screen tearing. Rawr

I tried the driver and the beta patch. It's a bit bettter.

Looks like mouse sensitivity is no longer tied to framerate. If it's still happening, I can no longer tell the difference between sensitivity at 60 and 120 FPS.

The crazy frametiming issues are still in effect though. The game may say I'm getting 70 FPS on G-Sync but the camera movement isn't as smooth as it should be.

Any word as to whether this beta patch is indeed the same one that the press (e.g. PC Gamer) received earlier access to in the past day or so? Seems odd that they had (I think?) reported noticeable performance improvements - any chance they had their hands on the next patch?

Okay so I just checked. Mouse sensitivity look completely independent from framerate now (1080 on 375.95), as it should be.
Fix look ok with and without vsync.
About the fps drop no differences, going from 160+ to 60- randomly.
At least now It's playable for me. That bug was just the worst thing ever.

BTW updates on bethesda games are really weird, I no longer have issues with Deus ex/Hitman but I had time to take a long shower just now. Or maybe it's because deltas are less optimized since it's a beta channel.

PC Gamer may have played the patch2 branch, which was last updated roughly 31 hours ago whereas the beta, betapatch and press builds are all a few days old now.

Gonna keep waiting for the patch that fixes stuttering before I drop sixty on this. Meanwhile, I just bought Planet Coaster, woo

Well twice now on the beta patch I've had it randomly start dropping to about 15 fps and then spin back up to 60 then back to 15-20. Didn't have this happen at all in my first two hours. PC games!

Many people see drops that fix themselves as you stand still.

Yeah that's what this was. Standing still it was fine and then as soon as I move it was dropping. I have no idea what is causing that so I have opted out of this beta patch, see if it shows up without the patch.

Finally tried the game. Only the tutorial so far. It ran Ok but the mouse issue and audio issue is well..my biggest issue so far. Running at about 85 fps avg with some dips to 60fps now and then. It auto configured to Very High on my PC. Going to try the first part of the game and see how it runs.

Running at 1440p on a 165hz Gsync monitor using a 1070, i5, 16GB, SSD.

Can anyone else confirm if lowering settings makes a bigger performance improvement?

I'd wait until you get to Karnaca before trying to get a read on performance.

Also this isn't the performance patch apparently so don't expect much:

Additionally, a new title update for Dishonored 2 (v 1.1) is now available via Steam as a Beta update – see below for instructions. Update 1.1 includes a small number of fixes including:
Mouse improvements, including a fix for sensitivity being framerate dependent
Fixes an AMD cloth physics issue, which impacts framerates at various points in the game
Fixes an issue affecting CPU task priority - the game no longer switches CPU task priority
If you run into issues or have questions please let us know in the public Dishonored 2 Steam Beta Forums on Bethesda.net.

Our work on Dishonored 2 continues. Update 1.2 development is underway and will address a broader range of issues including performance and is estimated to be available in the next week.

Can anyone confirm that the in-game mouse smoothing setting now actually disables it? It seems only logical that the issue was addressed alongside cursor speed being tied to framerate.

Folks weren't kidding about sharpening. Didn't bother till the patch. Really helps with blur and the somewhat ugly after effects of it fit in a game like DH2 better than they do in others.

I can't confirm other than having played about half an hour with the beta patch with concrete numbers but it FEELS way better.

980Ti, i7 6700k, 16GB RAM, installed on SSD - can't get the framerate to drop below 60 with everything on at 1080p. Yes, I know, this shouldn't even be a concern for this type of game right now, but I was getting ~40fps or less at certain points before.

Mouse movement feels very much improved, I didn't change anything and the game felt like Titanfall 2 feels regarding mouse look.
