Dishonored 2 PC performance thread

Can anyone confirm that the in-game mouse smoothing setting now actually disables it? It seems only logical that the issue was addressed alongside cursor speed being tied to framerate.

It does, the mouse feels great now. For best results disable v-sync and mitigate tearing some other way. There are still some frame pacing issues that make for a choppy pan or spin here and there, but it's immeasurably better and I'm now actually playing the game.

Still awaiting performance updates next week, but occasional dips into the 40s are no longer the nauseating event that they were earlier.

They shoulda just put the PC release date back like Watchdogs 2.... this is an acceptable state of the game IMO.

sounds like most of the major issues were for people with Pascal cards...I'm wondering if my GTX 970 will be fine and I should just go ahead and start playing now

On my 1060/4790k the patch did bring some noticeable improvement. Using "high" settings, the framerate is still fluctuating from 50-60 in some big open areas with many npcs (such as the harbor in Dunholm), but combined with the mouse tweaks those framerate fluctuations aren't causing as much noticeable judder as they did before. The performance problems definitely aren't "fixed", but it does feel like an incremental step based on what I've tested so far.

Unfortunately many reviewers/journalists using 970s report the same problems. If you own the game you should still give it a try after the beta patch, it might be a bit closer to your threshold.

I have a 970 and it had the mouse and framerate issues everyone has been disucssing. You would be wise to download the newest drivers 375.95 and download this beta patch through steam.

Nope, I'm still getting really shitty performance on my 970. Same as before really. Can't hold 60FPS even on Very Low at 1080p. Mouse feels a bit better but it's hard to tell. Still holding off until they fix more.

if Arkane/Bethesda released a separate 2nd patch to journalists (who have been reporting excellent results) then it would seem that they have a lot of confidence in it...so why wouldn't they release that for everyone at the same time instead of waiting till next week...certification issues?

I can't confirm other than having played about half an hour with the beta patch with concrete numbers but it FEELS way better.

980Ti, i7 6700k, 16GB RAM, installed on SSD - can't get the framerate to drop below 60 with everything on at 1080p. Yes, I know, this shouldn't even be a concern for this type of game right now, but I was getting ~40fps or less at certain points before.

Mouse movement feels very much improved, I didn't change anything and the game felt like Titanfall 2 feels regarding mouse look.

damn that sounds really good

Cheers.

There is no patch certification process on Steam. Developers/publishers are required to submit their proposed store page and pricing for approval, and a near-final build of the game needs to be reviewed prior to release so that Valve can ensure it "starts up properly, doesn't include harmful files, and uses Steam Wallet for any in-game transactions", but other than that there's nothing.

Performance on my Titan X is identical to pre-patch. Drops to 40fps during the throne room scene and when I look at the glass case in the first room, both on Ultra and Very Low settings. Ridiculous.

Very weird. I'm getting a locked 60 during even while running around and jumping like crazy in the throne room. Everything maxed / on / ultra, with a stock 1070. Is this game cpu bound?

Tried the patch with latest nvidia drivers: mouse movements feel a little bit better but still, there are some noticeable slowdowns (I am in the clockwork mansion right now so I cannot try outdoor areas). Nothing that makes the game unplayable though... Somehow, it seems to me like mouse movements are still framerate related, even if they are smoother.

i've been in this thread way too much and from most of what I've read, the people who able to maintain a steady locked 60 most of the time are on i7s, people with i5s are having a worse time I imagine.

I only have a 6600k 4.5ghz

Performance will be fixed with patch coming next week apparently, so let's wait further (ah!).

I'd expect it to be improved rather than completely corrected. The underlying issues may require more than a couple of weeks to fix.

Installed the new drivers and the patch.

i5 6600k @ 4.5 ghz
980 Ti OC'd
16 GB DDR4 @ 2800
SSD

Playing at 1440p with auto recommended settings (very high + some high) and TXAA.

Very slight improvement on framerate (~5 fps max in worst places). But now it just seems playable with a mouse. Nothing fancy but at least I can play it now. Still feels way better with a 60 fps lock with Inspector.

Using a Reshade posted here to get rid of the blurriness and the yellow-ish tone. Looks way better now imo.

so next week Dishonored 2 comes out on PC?

Sadly, yes. I think PC gamers would react better to "we delay PC release so as not to release broken-ass game, you'll play later, but there will be no issues" than to "we release on time the game which is utterly broken, then make you wait for the patch with the game sitting on your hard drive, while you wish you could play".

At this point I feel we should be extremely happy if the patch next week actually fixes the game. I'm suprised people are still optimistic.

Imagine the shitstorm if Watch Dogs 2 releases busted, after a 2 week delay.

1070, i5 3570k here, beta patch helped quite alot. Almost always above 60 fps now with mostly ultra settings. Hotfix pascal memory nvidia drivers may also have helped.

Okay, I've finally fired up the game for the first time today and good lord does mouselook feel so much better with the beta patch applied.

With all its faults, does the PC version performs better than the Ps4 one? I still have the pc disk shrink wrapped sitting on my desk and was wondering if it would be better to sell it back to upgrade to the console version.

With the patch, I'm finally running at mostly 60 FPS. The issue I have now is massive stuttering when the game bumps into my VRAM limit. Sometimes I'll see wild swings from 5.4GB to 6GB, and thats when the FPS drops (I have a pair of 980TIs). I have no idea why the game is so VRAM hungry. The textures don't look all that insane?

That very much depends on your particular hardware configuration. For some it runs well enough, for others it doesn't. The new patch does improve some things like the mouse behavior and future improvements are on the way.

Perhaps right now the PS4 version will offer a more predictable performance. As unfortunate as it is, I do believe that the PC version will improve a great deal in the coming weeks (which is not an endorsement of releasing games in this state, mind you).

Seeing it through the lens of not-so-horrible performance and mouse input, I really have to commend some of the effects on display here.

The lighting is EXCELLENT, especially in some of the apartments of Karnaca. The way the super blinding white sunlight reflects off the floors and walls to create this cooled, diffuse effect is beautiful.

And the ocean by the docks is incredible looking, definitely some of the best water I've seen.

Still would appreciate if the game ran a bit better but there's some good looking stuff going on here that I kinda didn't really appreciate before.

Gona wait for the performance patch.. i'm at a certain place in the story and my fps just tanks to 12fps when looking at a certain object which i will put in a spoiler tag.

Its in the Royal Conservatory where there are shadow beast, looking at such beast tanks the fps.

Setup:
I6700k@4.5
16GB memory @ 2700 MHZ
R9 290@ 290X speeds
Latest amd drivers

Mix with textures on high, draw distance on medium, fxaa @ high
1920*1200

Lets hope they learn the lesson and don't make the same mistake with prey 2 next year...

I have an i7, but the stutter when panning around is still present. Also the dips in FPS for no reason are baffling. Even with the GTX1080.
