Dishonored 2 PC performance thread

Has anyone gotten DSR working? I'm on a 1080p TV, but whenever I try to select 1440p from the in-game resolution menu the screen goes black for a bit and then reverts back to 1080p.

It's runs better for me after the beta patch, and NV hotfix. I still get some weird graphic errors though. I'll just wait for a couple more patches.

Can we change the thread name to Early Access so that it accurately represents the actual state of this gam.. piece of shit ?

I'm on the last level on mid tier hardware. Runs pretty smoothly, but with some frame hitching and the rare texture stream error.

Game has been brilliant.

Port may be a let down, but don't call it a POS. It's playable.

Very weird. I'm getting a locked 60 during even while running around and jumping like crazy in the throne room. Everything maxed / on / ultra, with a stock 1070. Is this game cpu bound?

i've been in this thread way too much and from most of what I've read, the people who able to maintain a steady locked 60 most of the time are on i7s, people with i5s are having a worse time I imagine.

I only have a 6600k 4.5ghz

I have an i7 5930K @ 3.5GHz, 32GB of RAM. I really feel like I should be getting a steady 60 on this game, but maybe my CPU is not as beefy as I'd like to believe it to be now? I haven't encountered any other game I can't run maxed out at 1440p/60fps. Seems weird that this, which doesn't really even look all that hot compared to something like Battlefield One (140fps@1444p) would be the one to best the beast.

Holy crap the mouse look feels so much better on the beta patch. And either it or the new driver smoothed out most of the little performance drops I was getting. Everything is running pretty darn smooth now on my 970. Maybe I can turn volumetric lighting on again and see what happens.

You could try overclocking; a 5930k should be good for between 4.2 and 4.4ghz easily.

But your cpu is probably not the problem anyway, because this port as released is FUBAR (Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition).

Lol, Yeah I'm just a bit salty.

The first Dishonored was such a fluid game, it's really disappointing the sequel released with all these bizarre technical issues.

The first Dishonored game had really bad AA and disappearing bodies.

Thankfully those were able to be fixed via tweaks.

I fired up Dishonored 1 and it felt so so good. The new patch helps, and Arkane/Bethesda is at least communicating and not keeping everyone in the dark.

TXAA blur. Also the watercolor look they go for on exterior building textures can look off at times, especially in this level during broad daylight.

I don't know, that looks like a bug to me, like it's only using distant LOD textures or something. I'm not sure what the solution is, but I can assure you that is not how the game looks on anything but the lowest settings.

See, many people here have said it's meant to look like watercolor yet none of their concept art is watercolor and it wasn't mentioned once in the hour + interview I watched with the art director for either this or the last game. Unless people mean the style in general but the textures themselves aren't blurry when viewed at higher resolutions so I think it's likely just the engine + TXAA.

Played for a couple hours last night using the Beta patch, and all I can say is that if this is better than how the game ran prior to the patch... Woof. I'm on a 1070 using the Nvidia hot fix drivers.

4k, even at 30 seems to be out. Looks like that's using 100% of my GPU. Was seeing dips there, to say nothing of the awful frame pacing. I don't know that I've seen a game do that on my 1070 before. Usually it's just a question of whether 30fps at 4k is alright with me.

Dropping to 1080, the age quality is a lot tougher, but even in Karnaka, I can keep a steady 60. Unlocking the framerare is a nightmare as it lurches wildly from the 120+ to 40s. Playing with settings seemed to do very little. The biggest issue though is there are times where it looks like 20 feet in front of my character, there are blotches of areas that are just an awful blur. Looks terrible.

On top of this, there are massive amounts of pop in and geometry being drawn in right before your eyes. You can watch a cliff assemble itself as you walk toward it or see the shadows draw themselves in as you slowly walk around that opening area on mission 2. That's all on ultra!

I was so looking forward to playing this, but honestly, I'm appalled at the amount of work that needs to be done.

Are there areas later in the game that are worse performers than the throne room? Lowest I got at 1440p max settings (txaa 1x) was 35fps. Tempted to lock at 30 and deal with long load times.

Before the patch, the throne room was the worst for me (about 20 FPS). Now I get about 40 in the throne room, but there are a few other spots in the game that drop me to about 30-35.

The patch wasn't a performance patch.

I turned my settings to very high with FXAA and it still looks like this
http://images.akamai.steamuserconte...337/1709D6AF110A3402BD330E446265CAEAA9C782DE/

It's less "what's wrong with this game" and more "what isn't wrong with this game" at this point.

Not that it's wholly responsible for the game's image quality, but FXAA doesn't do the game any favours -- in addition to it doing virtually nothing to mitigate aliasing, you also see a lot of texture "seams". The option might as well not even exist.

Works fine for me, but I have to set my desktop resolution first.

I can't figure out why my game looks so bad.
No AA, Ultra settings.

Looks broken? What's going on? The video settings work for effects, but the texture and image quality are garbage no matter what I set them to.

ive installed lumasharpen, but cant figure out where to put the recommended settings

[LumaSharpen.fx]
pattern=1.000000
sharp_strength=3.000000
sharp_clamp=0.025000
offset_bias=1.000000
show_sharpen=0.000000

Those ones^

Any help? I would've thought it went in the reshade.fxh file but I tried that and nothing

Also the performance is still shit. 45 FPS in karnacka. Fucking hell.

Dishonored2.ini, which is in the same folder as Dishonored2.exe. Also,when you installed Reshade did you say yes to the effects download?

Also, you can put those settings in-game by pressing Shift-F2.

I was going to to do my best to take the same screenshot but then remembered that I completed that level earlier, haha. Unfortunate timing. I'm tempted to say "That's the Avoid Engine for you", though the LOD system does seem a little more aggressive than usual in your screenshot.

Edit: I did take a rough equivalent of your earlier screenshot, however I must have accidentally deleted it as Steam is telling me I've not saved any screenshots of the game.

Yeah I'm just speaking generally, I thought the art style has a watercolor look to it in this and the first. That's just me though, I'm sure the devs would describe it the right way because they aren't an art pleb like I am.

That section in particular did look noticeably worse for me, then again that was before I added lumasharpen.

I can't figure out why my game looks so bad.

idTech 5 is what's going on (that does look abnormal though)

why does the game look so damn blurry? playing on high with vsync on

i'm only playing in the tutorial btw because i don't want my experience with the game compromised by poor performance

The beta patch has almost made this playable for me.

I hope the 1.2 patch (which is rumored to be more focused on performance) improves it more.

Tested in Clockwork Mansion missions.

Probably FXAA or TXAA being on. Can use TXAA + Lumasharpen and it looks pretty crisp.

okay it was bearable up until the docks where you talk to the ship captain dude, it just started going to 15-20 fps, i don't understand

even better is my pc isn't chugging or straining like how i'd expect it with this shit fps, its as quiet as a whisper (which is odd considering i even get sounds from it playing overwatch)

So good. I tried playing some more, finally got to the sanitarium. This first patch did help and reshade gets rid of the blur. But the performance is just bumming me out, still can't lose myself yet. Gonna wait til the next patch.

But not how a sequel to Dishonored should run. That game was buttery smooth :(
snip
Not trying to defend the poor performance but the tech behind this engine is way more advanced than the previous one, there are many more effects on screen, models/assets are way more detailed, the lighting /shadows look great and so on. It's hard to compare them.

Reading this thread with all its hyperbole, I sometimes feel like I'm the only one on this planet for whom this game runs well.

No complaints whatsoever on an old i5 3570k and a new GTX 1080 Gamerock premium. The unpatched games runs smooth at 4K, everything maxed out, at 40-50 fps, and controls great with a game pad. It's really hard to imagine that it runs so poorly in 1080p (one fourth the pixels) on mid tier cards - maybe some folks are just hyper sensitive to microstutters that I don't even notice.

It's incredibly gorgeous and well designed, such a joy to play. Best art design in a game since Bioshock Infinite, and incredible level design as well.

I don't want to upset all the people having problems, but just offer a dissenting point of view for those still deciding whether to get this right now or not. The game is not superbly optimized, but runs perfectly fine for me and many others.

Maybe don't use words like hyperbole and hypersensitive next time.

"Alll its hyperbole."

The developers fucking tied mouse sensitivity and framerate together lol.

As I said, I don't want to upset anybody, but some folks are exaggerating the issue. Just from this page:

It didn't create an ini, I said yes to the download alright tho. I tried shift F2 but the options didn't seem to let me change anything. Seriously every iteration of reshade ive tried has been the most user unfriendly pile of crap

Hyperbole eh? Can you back your statement by running around in an open area like Karnaca? I mean most of the people struggle with an 1080 to get over 40fps in the demanding areas at 2k and yet somehow you manage to run it at 4k "smoothly" if you consider 40fps smooth that is.

There's even an integrated tutorial.
Might be time to look for the fault elsewhere.
