Dishonored 2 PC performance thread

Holy shit, that's a lotta changes, and a lotta known issues. Still, gonna try it out right now.

Edit: Also lol @ them confirming that the adaptive res setting never worked for 30+ fps players. Wasn't there people in this thread claiming it worked for them?

I was one of the posters saying I noticed it working at some points of my playthrough. However, I'm pretty sure that I was playing around 30 to 50FPS, but it scaled the resolution down when it dipped under 30 during more demanding scenes.

So yes, it still worked for me, but just not at all times it should have. I never claimed it worked perfectly or that the game performed well for me at all times.

Well if you don't mind the drop in image clarity, the adaptive resolution option seems to be working as it should now.

I have a 970 and I'm getting 50-60fps at 1080p with everything on High. Loaded the same area pre-patch and was getting around 35-40.

I have vsync on at 60hz, adaptive resolution set to vsync based, threshold set to 60, quality set to balanced and triple buffering on.

Also tried the built in 30fps lock and load times seem pretty normal.

edit - okay so if you use rtss to cap to 30 too the load times are still screwed up. the built in lock does not have steady frame pacing either.

Me too. Not as good as I want it to be but it's finally playable. No more awful stuttering.

Holy crap this patch made a huge difference. Frame pacing still feels every so slightly off still but I'm getting locked 60 in Karnaca and it feels soooo much better playing it now.

This is on a 1070.

Actually plays how I would have expected it to at release.

Should I update to the 375.95 drivers?

NVIDIA driver 375.95
http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/111026/en-us
We have identified an issue with drivers 375.70 & 375.86 unique to Dishonored 2 which impacts performance. If not already, we strongly advise updating to driver 375.95.

If you run into issues or have questions please let us know in the public Dishonored 2 Steam v1.2 Beta Forums on Bethesda.net. https://beta-community.bethesda.net/category/139/dishonored-2-steam-beta

After the patch I am finally getting rock solid 60 on Very High with my 980ti and i76700K. There are still some frame pacing issues but overall it is amazing.

Performance is definitely better, but still kind of stuttery. Overall a nice boost compared to where it was last week.

However, now I have really annoying crash problems. Certain saves now fail to load (crash right before they finish loading) and certain areas of Mission 6 are making me crash immediately (but randomly).

So...yeah. Performance is better, but there may be increased instability.

definite improvement for me.

I can now play at 1080p w/ all settings on ultra and maintain 60 fps in spots that used to give me 40-47

I can also play @ 4k if I use the auto preset for my card (everything on ultra except water quality, view distance, decal quality and shadow quality). and get 50-60 fps.

Not sure which I prefer atm.. stable 60 is nice.. but the increase in resolution is noticeable.. and running at 1080p produces this weird flickering on some elements in the distance that isn't present when I run @ native 4k

Hm, you might be right. Locking to 60 FPS in the tutorial has smoother camera movement than leaving it unlocked at 72 FPS. G-Sync means it shouldn't happen but at least there's a way to fix the problem now!

G-Sync can't do anything about the issue if the framerate is directly tied to the game logic. It's more than likely a fixed tick rate issue caused by the engine itself.

Not sure if they can fully address it at this point.

Alright, I just switched between Dishonored 2, where I was getting a solid 60 FPS and Titanfall 2 where the framerate was hovering around 65 FPS (G-Sync). Titanfall feels FAR better than Dishonored, even after the patch.

Dishonored 2 is better now but it's still a bit fucked. And yes, I was locking the framerate to 60.

while ive no doubt that dish2 remains all sorts of fucked, isn't comparing a game to a gsync experience kinda unfair?

Updated.

New patch made a even bigger improvement over the previous one, Tripple buffering, adaptation resolution, frame rate limiter options on, almost all stuttering gone. I was fiddling with the settings and now I'm very pleased with the results.

Here are my settings:

System:

i7 3770k stock
16GB ram
980Ti.

1080p resolution, all ultra with Xbone controller. TXAA 1x
FOV: 90
Vsync on ( through nvidia control panel)
Adaptive resolution manual
Adapting resolution FPS threshold 60fps.
Adaptive resolution quality Balanced
FPS limiter 60fps.
Triple buffering Yes.

1440p everything maxed but shadows on high

Tried it on my PC and my brothers PC. (980Ti and 1080)

Well, definetively it runs much better, no stutter at all, clockwork mansion still has dips to 40s while it transforms if shadows are on ultra settings, on high settings we have some dips to +50s.

So, meh...it's something, at least it's playable now, and the new visual options are welcome, but it needs at least 3 more patches to get a good experience in terms of performance.

Ultra seems overly taxing given what seems to be little visual improvement for me as well, perhaps they focused on optimizing high/very high. I noticed for my 1070 it auto detects everything as high/very high, no ultra

My screen flashes black every 1-2 seconds and it runs way worse now. Even menus are tripping out. :(

Also hitches constantly, stuttering then playing at high speed for a second, then stuttering again.

Is there any possibilty to get 60fps on very high settings in Karnaka? (With a 980ti/1070)

And seems like the game is still broken on AMD gpus...c'mon Arkane :(

It's another beta patch, you have to enable it in the Steam options

yeah, I didn't realize there was a second one, my bad. The initial impressions of the first one didn't even make me bother updating, but but the "fix list" for this 2nd one is much more interesting.

downloading now. Hopefully its finally playable without requiring any bandaids

From my previous post, my current location is ' mission 3 The Good Doctor in Addermire.

Also, pre-rendered frames sets to 1 in nvidia control panel.

So I tested it. Got me a 10 FPS boost. Karnaca docks at 36-40 FPS which is pretty annoying, but that's just a specific location. I didn't enable adaptive resolution. I just can't handle resolution changes. Overall gameplay is smoother. I might play it now, installing some AMD drivers to see if I get a boost. Oddly the Karnaca docks are still stuck at 44 FPS at 600x800.

I have an i7-3770 @ 3.4 GHz, R9 290 4 GB, 16 GB RAM. Playing on 1080p with High to Ultra settings.

Update: I... played a youtube video and now everything runs really well?

Also: is the initial load time (around 30secs to 1min on a samsung ssd) when you start the game something I can fix/make better, or is that there to stay?

The beta patch is a definite improvement, but it's still rough.

The stuttering seems greatly improved, but it's still now particularly smooth feeling because of the drops. Just turning quickly can see a 10-20fps drop in some areas, and stuff like going into the kill animations feels very stilted and stuttery.

Mind you, this is all at very high, and 1080p. On my 1070! It's very frustrating to see this game continue to chug along so poorly. Shocking to think that this is a big step up.

Edit: Also, 1440p is not an option since it's bugged to lock at 30fps. Not an issue at 4k, but the performance is generally so bad there that it's very much not an option either.

The new patch is amazing, fixed all my issues. 1440p at 60fps max settings. Looks and plays great. Can't wait to dig in over the long weekend.

I'm getting 60 fps on Auto-Detect settings (mainly Very High) in Karnaka with a 1070.

Don't know if it matters but the patch notes say they adjusted pre-rendered frames in-game so they recommend setting it back to default in the CP.

Drops below 60fps w/ that setup? It's similar to mine.

Well I'm not in karnataka anymore, so I can't compare this patch with the old one.
I'm at mission 3 The Good Doctor in Addermire and the stuttering has improved or reduced greatly.

It's not completely gone though.

Edit: Got fraps running now so I can monitor the FPS. I'll update my impressions later.

Image came a bit dark. Getting mostly 60fps, with some frame drops at specific spots, but nothing major.. Addermire Institute.

When motion blur kicks in, my FPS drops.

bGrtWCu.jpg

Normally I'm sitting here at 60, but if I pan the camera, FPS drops. When I take a screenshot, you can see that motion blur is active. Thing is, my GPU usage doesn't seem to increase.

That's 2 overclocked 980TIs dropping below 60 FPS here. Just crazy. Is there a way to force motion blur off?
