Dishonored to be 12-14 hours long

I dunno man, I spend a punch of time punching break-dancing hipsters in the face and I finished the game in 15 hours according to steam.

That seemed like a good length, but whenever a dev estimates playthrough time, I usually end up finishing it in half to 3/4 of the estimation.

Fantastic; ~12+ hours is what I was hoping for (not that I'll play through it hurriedly).

I hate estimated length guesses since there's so many different variables that could greatly alter that time that they are hardly accurate. Gaming as a medium was created to allow players to progress and traverse through their own inputted command at their own pace, it's not like a film where there is a running time, and often when a length is estimated the number is lower than they say it is. Then there's gamers like me that take their time in games and go above and beyond the time that is estimated to beat the game.

Sounds like a nice round length. I like to take my time and savor this type of game too. Does anyone know if there is a new game plus?

Deus Ex HR took me 24 hours, according to Steam, reading every e-mail and finding every route in and out of every area. I can't wait to do the same in Dishonored.

So under 10 hours basically.

I'm less sceptical in this case as they compared it against the more exploratory approach.

Deus Ex Human Revolution took me 34+ hours to finish so I expect 20+ for this.

Approximately 45 here, and The Missing Link took me about 8 hours -- both according to Steam. In games that offer wide and expansive levels, I can't help but search every nook and cranny.

Well for some players, it could be much shorter since devs decided to support players finding new ways to do something.

http://www.vg247.com/2012/06/12/dishonored-devs-keen-on-player-designed-exploits/

“We have lots of powers, gadgets, and spaces, so there’s a lot for the player to do. The first time we saw someone jump off of a huge building and possess someone right before they hit the ground, we were like ‘that is awesome’. No one had thought of that before,

“Or the first time someone used double jump and the blink ability to totally bypass a security system, we were like ‘there went 30 minutes of gameplay in like 2 minutes’, but the player doing that is gonna feel proud they did it, so we don’t wanna shut that exploit down. We want the player to be able to express themselves through the gameplay.”

Yup, if I hadn't switched to a semi-stealthy approach and didn't rush the last part I think I could have pressed out another 3-4 hours at least.

I just saw the GT E3 playthrough.
Love how the dev said this is not a adventure game but more a adventure simulation.
Hope next gen will go that route less scripting more simulating.

Pretty disappointed by that but can't say I didn't see it coming. When you flood people with that many powers you either have to make a crazy long game in terms of amount of levels or just deal with it being shorter.

Also I'll likely end up finishing it in 10 or less. Estimates are always wrong and on the high end.

This means 24-28 hours for me. This always happens when I play these kinds of games. I'm sure some people will finish it in less than 10 hours.

They're always wrong on the short end for me, But October is so busy I will probably get Dishonored in a BF sale.

Logged 26 hours in DX:HR (although an hour or so was probably testing purposes). So 25 hours for me. So I'm guessing I'll have plenty to poke around with and go at least 20 hours in Dishonored.

Thats very good news and yeah having HR length in game play is not a problem. 12-14 hours is pretty big.

Especially considering HR became utterly dull and mind-numbing after the half-way point (not coincidentally the moment when the game began rehashing areas).

Arkane continues to say all the right things. Focusing on the single-player, and keeping the single-player focused, is definitely preferred in a game of this sort.

It's not a Bethesda game. Arkane is working on this, Bethesda/Zenimax is just publishing it.
I don't even care who made it. Zenimax/Bethesda softworks knowingly put their name on a broken product to hit a release window. Why should I trust them? It's not a big deal for me to wait a week or two and find out if the game sucks.

Looks interesting but even if it is goty I can't imagine paying 60$ for a single player game of that length when I only buy 2-3 new games a year nowadays due to nonsense like online passes. redbox/gamefly it is.
