I'm trying to find out why my PS2 slimline isn't working and have started taking it to bits. I can't find how the shielding is attached to the circuit board though, there's no obvious screws but something is holding it down firmly!?

Does anyone know of any sites that have a step-by-step guide of dismantling it?

be carefull when all the screws are out. the place where the power button is can be tricky to get apart. just go slow.

Seems my ps2 is different to most of the pics online. The shielding is attached to the circuit board by some copper coloured bolts that need some kind of non-standard allen key.

Well, what are the symptoms of your ps2 not working?

If the red light is not on when it's plugged in, then it's the power supply.
If it won't go into the ps2 config, then it's probably an IC problem (unlikely, since mechanical failure would be first).
If it won't read discs, then that's a bit harder to diagnose since it can be a problem with the laser or the various motors.

hmmm.... The first run of the slims had laser diode problems and would cause the system to malfunction. They were built a bit differently from the later models. Head over to PS2scene and look around, I bet they can help.

The problem is my modchip has stopped working so I cannot load any of my imports (I have a pal machine but buy mostly US/Japanese games). I'm guessing a wire has come loose.
